  • I own one.

    Great car.

    So much cheaper than Golf.

Don't buy 1.7cdti 110hp, because it's not so fast, 125hp is very good.

Drives like sedan on open road.

    Nice sound system.

    Good interior materials.

  • Just watching the video and trawling through the comments and had to throw my twopenneth in! Opel Diplomat???!! Jesus! Class? Even by the standards in the 60s and 70s that was one ugly brute of a car. Balanced? It's bonnet was waaaaayyyyy too long! If it was so balanced and classy why did it not set the market on fire?

  • why its called vauxhall not opel?

  • @MontylsHere its just the brand name (: Like in america they have Axe body spray, whereas in the UK we call it Lynx (: .. its just the brand name, same product, just different brand name (:

  • i still think the previous one look way batter

  • scheiss opels

  • Sorry to say that it doesn't look as sleek and agressive as the previous astra generation. I am gonna buy previous.

  • scheiss rostlauben opels

  • DESCOBERTA BRASILEIRA FAZ SUCESSO NA NET , E NO BRASIL- CHAMA-SE KIBERON . É UMA ALTERNATIVA Ä LIPO. É NATURAL E NÃO INJETA NADA.NADA. É QUALIDADE DE VIDA.

  • the alternator busted on my 56 plate astra 4 days out of warrenty and vauxhall were not interested. my fourth vauxhall and last.

  • people who like it well done i find it a beautiful car, the only beautiful one by vauxhall(and maybe the insignia) WELL DONE VAUXHALL!!!!!!!

  • You must have a white stick or you have never seen one or driven one. It is a very bad design and there are already hundreds of faults which will require a recall. Just like Toyota. Even on the H there were 2800 documented and known faults customers were never told about - and some made to pay for a fix.

  • Nice car, but it's too much similar to the LEON. I like the new Opel lines, and it was a good idea to keep the best of the Insignia.

  • nice shapes cool design

think that1 ll be great value for money

  • Value for money? Don't think so, a 1.7 diesel is £19000. Who would part with that kind of money when they can get a BMW or other decent car? Vauxhall is pricing itself out of the market once again with overpriced models. The build quality and design are both very poor.

  • @urbex2007 Totally agree with you. I was given one of the top spec models 2.0 diesel as a curtorsy car, lots of nice gadgets in it so was kind've impressed. Out of curiousity, I flicked through the Vauxhall website. All the gadgets were optional extras, even for the top spec model, which more or less added another 3k plus on the price tag. Even my 51 reg Renault Megane has more gadgets as standard. BMW, Audi, or VW Golf. Can't go wrong

  • very high tech little car.Opel likes to introduce new technologies

  • so exactly what technology does it have that the H doesn't? I don't think you have the first idea what you are talking about.

  • Honestly, it's a great car and we British should all buy one.

  • Why should we all buy one?

  • Whats going on with the styling of these new motors? They all look so bland, all the same, no personality. The Mk4 Astra looks so much better than any of the newer models!

  • @unlockthepower

Agreed. The styling is very ordinary.

  • the most beautifull compact; or beautifull than a3...

  • Can't wait to see the 3 door one!

  • wow ı love opel and new insignia or astra

  • Nice car - Golf was at the top, but i think I prefer this as its more modern

  • Seat Leon-ish

  • Looks a bit like the current Seat Leon!

  • looks a lot of more crisp and cleaner than the outgoing model! looking forward to the sport hatch version and of course the vxr which im sure will come well done gm europe :)

  • yay, surely this means a new Astra VXR soon too?

  • by opel they call it Astra OPC, and this will be came 100%

  • cheers, that has just flown to the top of my wish list :)

  • I recon the VXR will be released about May / June 2010. Serioulsy looking forward to it.

  • I think it looks gorgeous. Daylight Running Lights will make it look much sexier! For some reason, in this video, DRL is removed...

  • This video doesn't do the car justice, I have seen the new Astra and it's very nice indeed.

The inside is far better than the current Astra and the diesel version is so quiet you would think it was a petrol!

  • Who really cares where cars are made aslong as they work......nice car though.

  • Looks like a Toyota... not cool!

  • What a boring faceless blob of a car. The current astra sporthatch and vxr are much better looking and istantly recognizable. This 2010 model looks like an amalgamation of every bland hatchback on the market. Some car makers are improving the looks of their cars (Ford, Honda) and some must have designers that no flair (or talent!) namely GM/Opel/Vauxhall (the new corsa and now this - ugh) and BMW (although after a few years of ugliness they are possibly turning it around - the new Z4 is a looker

  • i wonder when saturn will get this model??

  • hope the three door looks better

  • vauxhall for the uk market, opel in the rest of europe. vauxhall number 2 best selling brand in the uk behind ford. my 96 astra so reliable i almost forget where the bonnet lever is !! at least vauxhall still make cars in the uk unlike ford.

  • ffs vauxhall only scratch the opel badge off parts, put a vauxhall badge on and superglue that hideous V grille on.

the only thing done in britain as far as production is assembly of german parts.

  • Boscosbollocks the Vauxhall astra is assembled in Luton and at Elsmere Port, Vauxhall employs 5,000 workers in the UK, as well as the thousands that actually supply the parts, don't be ignorant with such statements like we don't manufacture anything.

  • every inch of every vauxhall is german designed except for that horrible grill.

if it was a british design they'd fall apart on the delivery truck going to the dealership.

    remember rover?

  • Boscosbollocks you don't know much really do you about the UK car industry so: Nissan Micra - Sunderland Honda Civic - Swindon Lotus Elise - Hethel, Norfolk Bentley Arnage Crewe Toyota Avensis - Burnaston Jaguar XF - Castle Bromwich Land Rover Freelander - Solihull Mini Cooper - Oxford Morgan Malvern Link, Worcestershire Aston Martin DB9 - Gaydon, Warwick Now forgive me if i'm wrong but these car don't exactually fall apart now do they? German designed but British built
  • you clearly don't know much about the cars assembled in the uk. nissan - japan honda - japan lotus - malaysia bentley - germany toyota - japan jaguar - india land rover - india mini - germany ascari - holland rolls royce - germany aston martin - kuwait/usa/england like i said, get sent the parts and put them together like a giant meccano set.
  • Boscosbollocks those car companies are based in the UK using British labour, steel and component parts. Aston Martin for example is hand built in England. They still don't fall apart at least the UK still has a car industry.

  • nut you keep forgetting that your car industry is really someone elses

but prior to foreign influence aston martins were not very well built, neither were jags or lotus' and land rover still aren't great.

the rest? well you're still just putting japanese and german designs together, sorry.

  • Boscosbollocks well Ford owns Volvo, but many people would still argue that it is a Swedish car company. If a UK firm bought Coca Cola it wouldn't make it a UK brand, because its still an American icon. The Honda Civic in not even sold in Japan, its built exclusively for the UK market. And isn't Opel under the GM brand anyway, so by your logic how does it still remain a German brand, its foreign owned.

  • you see there's a difference between vauxhall and volvo. first of all, the cars: the vauxhall astra is an opel design with a different badge as is the insignia, the corsa etc. but, for example, the volvo c30, s40 and v50 are based of the ford focus, but are unmistakably volvos.

take the badges off the opel and vauxhall ranges and you'd struggle to tell the difference.

  • Boscosbollocks Ok so your rule of "if it has foreign investment its foreign owned" doesn't apply to Volvo because their cars are different, the Saab 93 is just a Vauxhall/Opel Vectra with a different shell, the two cars are exactly the same. I think your argument is hypocritical.Opel is under the GM American brand it is not a european / german brand! I get the feeling you just hate the UK.

  • i see what you're trying to do now. making it a nationalism thing.

now away from the accusation of me being anti british (which i take offence to).

the saab is the same as the vectra mechanically, but saab add engines, their own interior and a different bodyshell. saab, volvo, mazda, skoda, audi, etc base their cars on their parent companies' cars. some of which are better than the original (the fabia is better than the polo it's based on), but vauxhalls are just rebadged opels, like it or not.

  • we should all try eating some carrots

  • I'm not an Opel fanatic but, let's compare this abortion to what the company used to make.

People, go Google a pic of an Opel Diplomat. Not a flashy car but, it's balanced in appearance, refined, has an attractive interior, the car has class. Something that cars haven't shown in decades.

If Opel really wants to make a statement, fire all the tormented yuppies in the styling studios, buck the trend and actually build attractive cars!

  • for those of us not born in the 50s, it's quite difficult to tell how big a statement the Opel Diplomat was making.

That said, this car isn't fantastic to look at.

  • True but, I was trying to compare cars within the Opel brand.

If I was to argue for a fantastic car, then I would have presented the Ferrari F40. Opel could've built a handsome car, similar to the Triumph TR6, for the small car market.

My main complaint is over the low-grade cartoonish appearance of modern cars.

  • aye, agreed

  • Jesus H Cheeerist... first the Pontiac Aztek, then the Honda Element, then the Scion xB, then the Smart car, NOW we have another fugly car, the Opel Astra.

I really want to know what is going on in these styling studios. Who are the f-ing anti-social yuppies that come up with these disgusting cars? Why are car companies deliberately building cars that are visually offensive, spatially unbalanced, and lacking in any national character?

Who are the f*cking morons that buy such cars???

  • fuck off nuthead

  • It looks great imho

  • it looks like a slice of cheese.

  • Is that a nice way of saying it looks like a Mazda? :-D That's what it looks like to me.

  • Agreed, it looks ALOT like a Mazda, but it has a Honda grille! Do something German dangit! When did Euro-cars become wapanese?

  • I don't find these cars exciting at all. They're light weight, with small engines for fuel economy.

Don't get hit with a "Lorrie" in a tin can.

    I like big,roomy,powerful vehicles.,with frames.

Green? Not my favorite 'color'. It is available, though . LOL

We're all suckers for the constant media barrage of "Global Warming", and "Oil Shortages".

If vehicles get 40 MPG, the price of fuel will go to $12 Gallon..............

  • they sure r copycats!

  • y doesnt opel sel 2 america?

  • no cause american dont buy SHIT

  • they dont? y not?

  • american have opel by saturn, like astra or antara but in america saturn sells are low cause american dont like cars like opel with low quality. in europe opel are cheap cars with a lot of problems and italians engine.

  • ugly as shit

  • VW is GERMAN, opel is SHIT and NOT GERMAN

  • lolwut? Adam Opel AG is a German enterprise with headquaters in Rüsselsheim, Germany.

  • opel is a gm subsidiary. Its GM Europe, not german.

  • Germany... it happens to be in Europe...

  • you are wrong. nissan headquaters in europe are in england! but is nissan a british company??? NO

opel ois the same. opel is gm eurppe !!!!!!!

  • Nissan is a Japanese company with part Renault ownership.

  • of course!;) nissan headquarters europe are in england but nissan is a japanese company! teh same with GM Europe;)

  • Germany is in Europe. FACT. as to whether the car headquarters are in Germany or England I dont know. but Germany is in Europe and I was pointing out how ignorant it is to say GM headquarters are in EUROPE not GERMANY.

    Fucking moron.

  • however nissan european headquaters are in england Nissan is a japanese company, isnt it?

however GM european headquaters are in germany GM is a AMERICAN company, isnt it?

    do you understand?

Opel cars arent german like nissan arent british, of course!!

    ´

    VW ---> GERMAN BRAND

Opel ---> no german, at all!!!

  • Your right Opel is a german company not an american!!!!

  • This is what saturn going to be. or I should say they are going to stick a saturn emblem on it and call it saturn whatever.... at least this car is better than piece crap saturn.

  • no you are wrong, saturn were opel but it was a failure in market cause opel/gm europe cars have low quality

  • I agree, Vauxhall its a Opel(only UK), it´s Gremany car(thanks God), Britsh cars, are Shit, Now Opel, is Magna company, no more GM

  • opel ISNT GERMAN!!!! YOU ARE WRONG!

do you wanna a german car! Buy a VW!

  • Just looks like shit...

  • Could they possibly make a car that looks different than...say...50% of the hatchbacks out there. You could mistake this car for so many others.Make something original looking!

  • opel is so damn SHIT my opel is unreliable!! shit car!!

  • shut up

  • VAI PRO CARALHO Fiat is SHIT! Opel too!

  • yo mann scheiss auf england scheiss auf vauxhall die sind eh alles falschfahrer wegen denne werden viele opels versaut

  • hmmmm, ugly

  • ugly ....looks japanese

  • The front of the car makes it look dumpy in profile.

  • Vauxhall is better than Opel, regardless.

  • Vauxhall no longer exists, but as a dead brand used for Opel cars.

GM kept the brand to convince english people that they were "buying British".

There are no Vauxhall engineered or designed cars on the market, and there hasn't been since the seventies.

  • Same for Holden. This is exactly why I hate GM, they just shuffle the badges about and end up one or more companies become nothing but just a badge.

  • i know i totally agree, brits would be arrogant of the fact the are driving a german car

  • Actually the cars are built in the UK, Ellesmere port and in Luton, Vauxhall employs 5,000 british workers. So the cars are only made i think for the UK market. Opel don't sell in the UK market, just the rest of Europe.

  • 5door hatch is built in UK for both british and european market, while 3door hatch is built in belgium along with the zafira.

  • how wrong you are. vauxhall dont develop the product. its only a badge for UK while every other market gets opel. the product is german not british

  • Vauxhall itself is a company. And, you are arrogant for talking English.

  • what do you mean i am arrogant for talking english.

Its an Opel an you know it

  • Well, doesn't say that on the back. So it isn't.

  • how do you half the value of an opel?

put a vauxhall badge on it.

gm let vauxhall put opels together like lego and put a different badge on it.

  • luks more like nissan murano........

  • very nice car, i heard it will be made it britain

  • Nice this new Astra.. I like it..

  • nice mazda 3

  • this br96022 is an italian gypsie so dont give a shit about he says!!

  • OPEL = SHIT!

    OPEL IS NOT GERMAN!

  • Sory but i've a Opel Astra Break 2007. I've 107000 km and I'm sure Opel is very good. I haven't had any problem. Very good car, very robust, very fiable, very safe... I love my car

  • Fiat have for years been running at loses for years bearly making profit! My brother owns a Fiat Stilo and im sorry but its utter shit. If Vauxhall brand and the ellesmere port plant (which will build this new Astra) all close then i,ll eat this laptop I am on.

  • the stilo is an old car. low price and out of production by years. Take a look at the new delta, bravo, 500, mito. fiat punto and opel corsa have the same components. Sabb 9000, lancia thema alfa 156, croma were the same car. the fiat engines have the lowest co2 production. Have you seen the new Multi air engine 1600 cc and 200cv. The multi air tecnology can be used directly into the american monster engines.

  • nice

The 2004~2005 brazilian version is a very good car =P

  • This would be a very cool car for them to use in the next Episode of another You Tube video I saw called A DRIVING FOOL.

  • 1.Cubra sua boca com a mão

    6. Amanhã vai ser o melhor dia da sua vida

  • That's a Megane.

  • no! its a mazda 3

  • I thought it looked a bit like the new Megane, too lol. I see Mazda3 in this new Astra as well. It's a nice looking car nontheless. I hope to see it in the US, but with the way the current Astra sells I doubt it.

  • Oh no,not another run of the mill hatchback, they all look the same BORRRRRING.Get more MUSTANG's over here in the UK and give us some decent cars to look at.

  • Fair enough to look at. But to own, no way besides with have corners over here and well American cars don't do corners. I do kinda like the new Dodge Charger suspension set up tho, Leaf springs as used on erm Transits!

  • First of all... Kia Ceed is copy of Astra GTC. Rear end. And how old is Astra GTC? ;)

Astra is for now best looking car in its class. No doubt about that. Boring? Look at new Golf. Who is boring now? Rear end of Astra H is boring (i have it) and for sure not this.

This is very nice mix of elegance and also sporty look. Very very nicely done! Well done Opel! My next car for sure.

  • People who say it's a Kia...wake up;that's not a bad thing! Kia and Hyundai employ ex-Audi designer chief Peter Schreyer - so they will be making some decent-looking cars.

IMO it's more Rnealut Megane than Kia, specially round the rear-end.

  • Немецкая пословица: Любой автомобиль рано, или поздно становится Опелем :)

  • • Navee !

  • The Astra is a Vauxhall creation..If it was Opel is would still be the Kadette. Opel don't just design the car's Vauxhall do too. Any way probably be called the Fiat Astra..and break down every week..

  • The engines are fiat. Vauxhall and all the UK plants will be closed

  • all diesel engines except the 1.7 are new holland group engines and same for petrol except the agilas 1.0 wich is suzuki vvti opel/vauxhall dont have vvti engines and the 2.7 v6 is an old saab engine

  • Its Opel/Vauxhall....Ellesmere Port,UK home of the Astra. Just like VW/Seat/Audi/Skoda....PSA Group (Peugeot-Citroen) Ford/Volvo..Car manufactures combine to save money. Vauxhall is a British company, Opel German under the umbrella of GM. SAY NO TO FIAT TAKE OVER!!!!

  • The engine is Fiat, Like the insigna one. The multy jet is was a fiat's patent sold to bosh. The is the new Multi Air engine. GM wants 30% of fiat company to sell the Opel, Vauxal, saab, brands and south america plants. Fiat wants give to gm only 10 of company...

  • read my comment above btw

    i work for vauxhall

  • fiat will buy the ex daewoo from gm too

  • boooooooooooooooooooring

  • Тупые!

  • IT´S A FUCKING KIA CEED !!!!!!!!!!!!

Opel wacht mal auf und baut wieder eigenständige autos sackrament nochmal....

  • yawn

  • Germany mazda3...

  • Nice Looking Car

  • It's OPEL, not Vauxhall!! Vauxhall, GET A CREATION!!!

  • hopefully when when GM doesn't own these 2 brands, no one will say something like that.

  • I will, I hate GB.

  • why so?

  • i dont like gb because i hate fogs and crowded places, it better for me in Croatia :)

  • Not so bad :)

  • Comment removed

  • i think opel made great jobs after the new insignia..(car of the year 2009)

  • Looks like the Vauxhall Insignia a bit.

  • It is not Vauxhall it is an Opel! Vauxhall is the subsidiary!

  • Man i live in the UK and its an Vauxhall but its a Saturn in the USA, Opel in Europe and a Holden in Australia. you get my point?

  • General Motors

  • All are designed and have the engine of Opel! Opel will leave GM and will make her own group buying all these brands.

  • all the engines are fiat.

The newest engine is the Multi Air that make a gasoline engine more convenient than a diesel one. Like told by Mr Obama fiat will give to crysler 9 billions dollars of tecnologies agaist 20% of chrisler.

Daimler Mercedes has lost arround 70 billions dollars in 10 years of patnership with crislyr.

  • Vauxhall is a British manufacturer therefore it's Vauxhall.

  • Yes but it takes the design and the engine of Opel! It is a subsidiary and now Opel will leave GM and make a group named Adam Opel AG buying Vauxhall and Saab!

  • GM has given all the opel's patents to the US Gov. like warranty now opel is an empity box.

  • the last notice is that fiat will close one or two plants on italy and transfer the direction on germany. they will change the name like they done with new holand case. like volkswagen they want build more than 1 millions cars for each base. fiat want back 5 billions euro from cnh division
