What I don't get is ECW letting Austin break kayfabe here. I get ECW was more realistic than WCW and WWF but they still never really outright break kayfabe, saying that guys are scripted to win and job, go 7 minutes against rookies, etc. Unless I never noticed when I would occasionally watch.

@peterp21 : As told by Paul Heyman on the "Rise and Fall Of ECW" DVD he says that eh and Austin were still tight from the days where Paul E. managed Austin in WCW. When he heard about the firing he called Austin and asked him what he was gonna do next. Austin said he didn't know. Then Paul asked him if eh wanted to come on ECW TV and shoot about what happened and Austin agreed. I don't know if they agreed to a deal before or after this, but this particular shoot was just a favor.

Further, for it's time(and even now to a degree), it's the single greatest promo of the modern era. Now, you've got Punk, Moxley, Eddie Kingston and the late, great Larry Sweeney, among others.

ECW featured some pretty amazing promos. This one and Foley's 'Cane Dewey' are untouchable classics. The gritty, cheap documentary style really worked for what Heyman and the guys were doing.  I can hear the Pulp Fiction surfer music as I type this...

Stone Cold Steve Austin is and forever will be the best WWF superstar ever. He had the best story lines and the best rivalry in wrestling history with The Rock. The man even made his own WWF title better than that piece of shit John Cena had made. He is bigger and better than Hulk Hogan. Even the great Ric Flair said so. Long live Austin 3:16.
