  • I love this album but haven't listened to it in years.Today I was reading a passage Reza Aslan's book on Islam about how Mohammad's father was stopped on his way to consummate his marriage by a woman who wanted to "lie with him" because he had a light shining on his forehead between his eyes. He refused and finished his journey, the result of which, according to what Aslan calls part of the ancient birth myth, was Mohammad. Next day, the light has gone. I immediately thought of this song. Hmmmm.

  • catch bull was all you left us with cat you left it too late to come back yusuf

  • I was born with a mole on my right temple and a tiny bright red spot above my eyebrow, both of which are still there to this day. My parents referred to me as the boy with the moon and star on his head, my mole being my moon and my red spot being my star, on my head.

  • He is the boy with the moon and the star on his head! :)

  • Not easy to understand the real meaning of all this wonderful song. I don`t get it...But is so beatiful anyway.

    Cheers.

  • Actually, I think that the song is a parable about the enlightenment that comes with the mystical experience. BTW, It IS possible to interpret art in a way other than literally.

  • Regarding the odd comments about the ethics herein, can I just spell it out for y'all? Western Civilization is BASED on this same story with the genders reversed: A virgin engaged to be married, is seduce by an angelic mysterious entity promising the offspring shall bring a message of salvation. The spouse-to-be is perturbed, but eventually moved by the special nature of the bastard child, and raises the kid as his own. Humanity is enriched, everybody happy. It's a myth meant to inspire.

  • @johnshipe I gotta tell you, yours is the best definition I have ever heard. I have always been intrigued with the message that this beautiful song transmits.

  • Magic. ......Pure and utter Magic.

  • Cat Stevens touches all hearts

  • The moon and star symbol was a pagan symbol waaaaay before Islam came onto the scene creating terror.

  • @Leon612 Well said Sir!

  • @stevebenbob The union jack seeks to wrest the title of the preeminent symbol of terror back from the stars and stripes, but there will have to be much more terror committed by john bull to achieve that!

  • Majestic.

  • Yu suf Is lam. Don't cha get it? He's singing for EACH and EVERYONE of us ON THIS PLANET. Doesn't matter who we are, what religion creed, skin color, or, belief. HE sings for ALL PEOPLE. HIS PEOPLE, MY PEOPLE, YOUR PEOPLE, US PEOPLE, He calls us, LOUD AND CLEAR! We come celebrate life whenever he, THE ROADSINGER, whether Cat Stevens or Yusuf Islam, comes to town. Blessed to get a ticket. Know what I mean? :) Later!:D

  • This song is a story.....and a beautiful one at that!

  • ticket with a moon and sunshine

  • one of the first songs I learned on guitar and still play it now (but play just as bad as I did then) I love it

  • "....... and love is all ..... he said." It still brings a lump in the throat. Masterful writing, no? - Yes.

  • what is the song about? the boy with the moon and star on his head ,is this about the arival of prophet mohammed? what? what? is it about?

  • @snapperjohn1000 Well it's easy to associate religion with him and his songs, now, isn't it? Especially when the Cat said so, himself. He was searching for more in life than what he was seeing - "On the Road..," "Tea for the Tillerman," etc. - according to interviews he's done. When I first heard this - the moon and star song, I thought it was about Jesus! But that was many moons ago! This is the first time I've it since then and am elated. I say just enjoy the poetry and melody combined.

  • @snapperjohn1000 Cat Stevens wrote this song years before he converted to Islam. So no, this is not a religious song. The Crescent and star symbol is also not a direct representation of the nation of Islam.

  • @biggiesmaus His music reflects his artistic talent, period. And I bet he told bedtime stories to his daughters that he invented off the cuff. And something tells me that he put music to his stories.

  • Does anyone know if he ever got together with Joni Mitchell? Seems like they should've.

  • Just Outstanding

  • Anyone who knows anything knows that, in their purest forms, all religions are as one. Separatism is merely the work of the ego.

Beautiful song / myth. Thanks for the upload.

  • fuck the religions. i just like that he takes a pro-tabbacco smoking stance. that takes balls these days.

  • This is such a beautiful song.

  • "I tell you everything I´ve learned. And Love is all." He said.

Epic line! I LOVE this song. It talks about love beyond all frontiers and differences.

    Cat Stevens is the best!

  • Her får du AI. Som deg husker jeg denne godt. Like godt som duften av jentene, smaken av teen og den silkemyke huden ved siden av meg. Those were the days!

  • beautiful - I seem to remember that the whole album was well balanced.....

  • this is a beautiful song.....

  • the whole Catch Bull at Four album is splendor not a sour song on the entire work

even with some the subjects broched

  • Beautiful! One of my favorite tunes...and fantastic photos! Thank you so much for sharing!

  • no religion hates it is only a destorted view as with anythink if life if it upsets you do something else find compasion and the wold is full of love

  • nancy johnson from mounds park jr high in the 60's please call.

  • me too. It is regretful and pathetic that he has become a whipping boy for the west vs islam. I haven't heard this song since it was released. It moved me then and still does. He had an amazing knack for keeping verse and mood simple and yet stir one completely. Love is so rare and worse these days, yet this song oh, love is all he said. You I wish to share my body with she said. back in the 70's? wow that was not dirty, nor porn, just better than folk rock, like joni's songs.

  • my favorite song ever. it's ashame he had to throw away his career to embrace terrorism.

  • @tomaf becoming a Muslim is NOT embracing terrorism!!! Islam does NOT have the concession on hatred and oppression, people of many faiths have committed terrible, terrible acts in the name of their god(s)and beliefs,i.e. the Crusades, the Inquisition, the Burning Times, just to name a few.Hatred and oppression are HUMAN things, not specifically Muslim,Christian,Buddhist,or whatever!

  • You are so right "Thebonnie0592"!!! My god, his songs are wondrous and if I had had have a chance in the day, I would share my body with him like he says in this song!!!! It is all so magical!!!

  • Cat Stevens did not support the fatwa against Salman Rushdie. I thought the opposite until I recently saw a documentary in which he refuted that claim as a misquotation. He remains a man of peace. He is one of the few modern religious figures I, as an atheist, respect. Don't turn away from him because of religion.

  • I think when he recorded this song..many years ago, he was not a muslim..and is this 'girl' maybe fictional?..It is a song, remember..get a grip comes to mind.

  • AGREE with Thebonnie0592

  • This song has haunted me all my life. It maps uncharted seas of beauty and it still moves me today like a compass pointing to a magnetic pole.

  • How ironic - this woman he wrote so beautifully about would be stoned to death for adultery in Islam.

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • Ah, do you read the news? There were two stories in the last month of women being stoned to death for adultery.

  • @vs0522

There are fanatics in ALL religions. Just because he may be Islam, doesn't mean that he agrees with all of the different secs -- just like Christianity has many varieties and beliefs.

  • After all these years, still a beautiful song. And it's you who I wish to share my body with, still gets me

  • A tremendous artist

  • I'll tell you everything I've learned...."and love is all", he said......

    beautiful! ♥

  • my mom always thinks of me when she hears this song :)

  • This nothing less than pure music. I have had this album for over 30 years and it is so important for me.

  • Beautiful song - I had this album - but don't remember it. Thank you for posting the lovely video - and music....

  • I raised my 8 children on music by the likes of Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan Nils LOfgren etc etc... All I can say About Yusef is GO CAT GO!!!!

  • cat stevens is dead, now there is only yusuuf islam, :(

  • I know it seems hard for people like you to comprehend, but he is the SAME person...on one of the great journeys of our time...he gave up fame and fortune for a spiritual life, isn't that the greatest thing that could happen to a man?? The man is Godly IMO, and he is happy in himself...what a journey, what a man...long live Cat/ Yusuf

  • @NERDFREAKINGPOWER

Same man. Yusuf is just Cat, after he found what he was looking for. Still beautiful.

  • Blessed.

  • I'll tell you everything I've learned and , "LOVE", is ALL HE SAID.... xo

    beautiful xoxoxoxoxoxxoo

  • The greatest thing you will ever learn is Love and love was all he said

  • Still touches me after all the years in between.

  • I'm in my college dorm and I have 3 of his records hanging on my wall...thanks to my parents/aunt/uncle. : ^ )

  • @Leon612 I clap my hands to yr.parents..and to you..he is The Artist...

  • Well I think he meant both and it was a creative way of writing. I think that because the way he pronounced the word ALL. He wants to tell that LOVE is everything there is, it shines everywhere you only need to know how to look and that is what he learned is ALL he said. But it could also be my own creative interpretation :-).

  • I'm not usually pedantic about pop song lyrics, but this song has been a puzzle for me since I first heard it.

Is it, " I'll tell you everything I've learnt..and LOVE, is all he said " ( ie.. he said LOVE..and nothing else )

Or is it.. " I'll tell you everything I've learnt..and LOVE IS ALL.. he said".. ( ie.. LOVE is everything).

Over 30 years thinking of this and still can't decide which it is.

  • Personally I think its LOVE IS ALL, as in love is all he learned

  • The following line marked the start my spiritual journey over 30 years ago. "I'll tell you everything I learnt, and Love is all he said" Simply brilliant Mr Stevens, thank you!

  • I think bevie3555 is right on! For my part I would venture in saying that his song "O Caritas" was published very early for its time. It applies soooo much to the world we live in today.

  • Sadly it applies to today, yesterday & tomorrow because there will be oppression as long as there is greed.

  • The man was always spiritual, that was obvious in all his songs over the years. He found his joy in Islam. But it doesn't mean that his songs are an the less relevant. Beautiful, spritulual music and lyrics.

  • Oh, thank you. That was NICE!!!

    Nice trip down memory lane.

    13, montana, john denver, SKIING

pure prarie league, marshall tucker, SLEDDING, snowmobiles, paper

    routes, and those mountains.

    Thanks man.

  • i busted a gut when i read paper routes. thanks drohegda

  • Minun nuoruuteni rakkain kappale. Tätä soitin paljon.

  • I love Cat Steven a long time ago...I was a youg...

  • I love this song so much..Cat Stevens is amazing. I dont agree with Yusef Islam. I am a Christian and I love my God with all of my soul but I wont bash those with their own beliefs. I just thank Cat Stevens for creating this song.

  • I love Cat, His music heals my mind and soul!!!!!!!!!!!

  • cat stevens made me feel good as a young girl growing up in the 70's. parents hated this music!

  • You guys ruin all his comment areas by bringing up religion. Who cares???His music touches my heart and he sings about love. Listen and learn!

  • So just forget about the larger picture and close your mind to the truth. You're the one who needs to listen and learn. His music doesn't exist in a vacuum.

  • @Thebonnie0592 Oh, I'm not making love to anyone's wishes.

Only for that light i see

'Cause when im dead and lowered low in my grave

That's gonna be the only thing that's left of me.

  • @Thebonnie0592 You're right -his music will never stop inspiring people! In the same way that religion may or not inspire people, music lives on.

  • Thank you Lucy for your contributions to the world by continuing these fine songs and videos. You Rock!

  • This person is my Idol along with Muhammad Ali. His songs have deep messages and he is a great human being too.

  • Hey guys. Lets stop talking about religion, and just enjoy the song.

  • Yay! Here here! Enjoy the song! "The naked earth beneath us, and the universe above..." :-)

  • "Why must we go on hating? Why can't we learn to live in bliss?"

  • Navidy, you lose this one. It was discovered, and he admitted, donating money to Hamas. Hamas has admitted to killing many people. Yusef Islam knows exactly who Hamas is and donated to them despite their history. So, no, I don't think he's killed anyone with his own hands, but his donation is blood money.

Muhammad was a pedophile, enslaver, rapist, murderer, and advocate of the above for all time until dar al Islam.

  • american bankers fund hitlers war which killed so called jew genocide lets put a terror stamp on america, british killed so many native indians in america,in australia,in canada and so on and then the christianity killed throughout the history all over the world and still killing ,,,and now lets see who hamas is killing, its the fuking zionest who r killing the innocent palestinian and who is responsible for that not just the fuking zionest its the christians too,,,,,so whos the terrorist?

  • when describing Muhammad...it kind of sounds like Columbus...who U.S has a national holiday for...WOW

  • "i'll tell you everything i've learned...and "love" is all ...he said". (sounds pretty dangerous)

  • Cat Steven's music is different from so many other talented artists because he uses the power of spirit to express emotion, vision, essence of truth, love, Faith etc.

ilovelucy, great photos you supply to enhance this song. Adds depth to an already great song. Gracias!

  • Cat has this thing that is simply all too rare in today's musicians and recording artists -- talent.

  • I remember sitting in my bedroom staring at his face on one of the album covers listening to this beautiful music for hours and last night I saw him in concert at the El Rey in Los Angeles and he still has that voice and that beautiful face.

  • How lucky for you - I could not get tickets. Did he play any older stuff?

  • Father and Son, Peace Train, Don't Be Shy, Where Do The Children Play, and more......I think they filmed it for a DVD!

  • Really... cool I never got the majikat DVD... loved that album though

  • lovve it

  • The closest to pure peace in modern music - a gift from above. He made sense to me as a child listening to my mother's Cat Stevens LPs, and it still does, even more intense. Thank You Cat/Yusuf

  • How I so wish we could travel back to the days when.

This song if only for five minutes takes me there..

Maybe someday we can capture that magic once again.

  • 'It is you who I wish to share my body with, she said...'

Such an incredibly beautiful line. God I love Cat Stevens.

  • @xxSuzumeChan

    my sentiments exactly

  • One of my favourites from when I was a teenager, this song makes me cry each time I hear it. With this song I was given a 'gift I could not forget'.

  • i love it 5*

  • anyone know if there is an official cat stevens video for this song because the moonshadow animation is really good and I know that if one was made for this music that too will be really good

  • choosing our star as we tack against the winds of time . .

  • Admittedly - I like the pictures you included as much as the song - and I'm crazy about the song! ;-)

  • The naked earth below us and the univerise above

  • You have given me something my heart will not forget...THANX 4 the lovely share, Rob!Peace♥

  • Obama. . he's the one and only . . .

  • I know nothing of American Politics, but i hear this guy is gonna be good....

  • This for you, MY mhall....

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • @rokker007 not spam. hate speech.

  • When I was young, I would lay on the plush green mist colored carpet of my living room and listen to Cat Stevens for hours. This song was one of my favorites...to hear the story within the lyrics and imagine the image of a boy with a moon and star on his head...absolutely lovely music from a beautiful artist...

  • Cat Stevens is every character in his songs....listen to "the hurt". How many characters can you pick out that are him?

  • One of Cat's brightest moments - pure genius.

  • Cat has always and will forever be about peace. Anyone who says or thinks Cat (and it's spelled Yusef) is a terrorist does not have their facts straight.

  • Wow, I miss Cat. What a beautiful soul; what a handsome man!

  • Yes, he was incredibly handsome. I figured out this song on my guitar and I'm elated because I thought I would'nt get it! The picking style was difficult but I finally worked it out...He was great!!!!

  • sorry i got your name wrong jcjcjc.

  • cjcjcjc can you name a single person cat stevens/yusuf islam has killed?

  • My favorite to play and sing as a teenager in the mid 70's and once and awhile since. Kind of a hoot to think about now, me being female and all. Oh well, great video, lots of posters I have not seen before. Beautiful song.

  • doorcat13 is right,the boy is Cat-the gifted boy.

  • Jafaah - Cat Stevens has an uncanny ability to be everyone in his songs. Go back and listen to "the hurt" and see how many people is is in THAT one.

  • it's so different i had to laugh! but at the same time he's so artistic-he's just got his unique angle of looking at things.

  • This has always been one of my favorite songs, but I guess I was carried away by the beauty of the lyrics, and didn't really pay attention to the content. Dammit, now I hate this song! Thanks for pointing that out Suzzuc!

  • You know you could never ever really hate this song. Don't listen to suzzuc, who is just playing the devil's advocate here. This is one of my favorites to. Tell yourself over and over you will not be influenced by complete strangers. Repeat several times until you can think of this song as you always did. Then close your eyes and get carried away again.

  • pocuddim, You're right. I still love it!

  • sherylrb, I knew you would never desert Cat. Ha! Can't listen to anyone who has a silly name like "suzzuc". signed, pocuddm2

  • @pocuddm2 I don't hate this sing, I like it. It takes genius to make cheating on your fiancee one day before your wedding day and producing an out of wedlock child sound so gorgeous!

  • @Vydio not "one day before your wedding day," it was "on the day I was to wed" - the character in the song has some afternoon delight, and goes on his way directly to the wedding.

  • @mattlove1

You'd think he was too preoccupied on his wedding day, but I guess not.

  • excelent and great song.

  • the most beautiful and profound lyrics ever written in history. takes my breath away. like somoene said earlier, the song doesnt do the amazingly amazing lyrics justice.

  • This song is so unique it's amazing, kind of like the Battle of Evermore was for Led Zepplin. There's no comparing genius like that to the junk you hear now!

  • lyrics please?

  • SUZZEC I don't think that Cat is the grown man in the song...I think HE'S the boy with the moon and the star....LISTEN to it

  • I've listened again - to me it just sounds like it's a lovechild... What am I missing?!

  • @doorcat13 It doesn't need to be taken so seriously - none of this ever happened. But clearly the fictional narrator is the father, not the son.

  • One of C/S best-I too can remember this song back to my high school days-And now I spend the day with my son -Caleb he is my"boy with the moon and star on his head" he's autistic and requires much time but is the center of my world.

  • Great tune. But to those of you who have written "beautiful profound lyrics", what are you talking about?! It's about him cheating on his fiance the day before his wedding, not really wanting to attend his wedding at all (preferring to lie under a bush with a complete random he met moments ago), and then rubbing his new wife's nose in it when his lovechild appears at the door a year later. "Harsh" yes, but not "beautiful and profound".

  • Funny, I understand your point, but I look at it from a more spiritual point of view. I mean, you can say pretty much the same things you said about the events surrounding the birth of Christ. And I think that part of the point was that there was a powerful spiritual force about the child suggesting that the incarnation of his soul in that unconventional way lay outside the Wills of the individuals involved.

You know, if you go in for that sort of thing.

  • @suzzec Glad someone besides me noticed.

  • @suzzec it was the day of his wedding, not the day before. There's nothing in the lyric that suggests he he's "rubbing his wife's nose in it" - what was he supposed to do, drown the child in a bathtub? I found out from my cousin that one of my brother's children is not his, his wife had an affair. He knew it, yet he raised the child as his own. Now that is a Man. Perhaps the woman in the song was equally given to generosity, something your pinched little nature doesn't seem to contain.

  • these words are so profound.

loved in high school and that was a looooong time ago. and i still do.

  • awesome...

  • The most profound lyrics ever written, last lines: "I'll tell you everything I learned, and love is all, he said". I first heard this when I was 18 and thought it was too simple... more than 30 years later I think it is the only truth!

  • I grew up on cat stevens, actually all of my siblings and i did- this was always my favorite along with moonshadow. I can't tell you how many records and cd's the four of us went through.

  • dear i love lucy

i have just discovered facebook and in surfing revisited my youth so joyfully with your wonderful video of cat stevens the boy with the moon and star my then and now favourite song

thak you so much for your effort and work in this clip

i watch it everyday and the memories of that time in space is a great joy to me

    kind regards

  • Ya gotta LOOOOOVE the CAT!

  • the song doesnt give the beautiful lyrics justice.

  • Lovely. Well done and thank you.

  • Fabulous song from a genius at work. Still love him after all these years.

  • happy stumble on to this homage montage. lucy loves cat no matter what, so that makes two of us, or three, as i sent links to my dearest friend who shared the 70's with me and mooned over the man with moon and star too. as for yusuf, i'm looking, seeing, letting the man speak for himself, mind heart open - as a child i learned that from the cat.

  • My sister took me along to one of Cat's shows. I was a kid & most of the time my sister was babysitting me because we had a sick mother. I stepped out backstage for some junk food. A guy offered to buy my pass for $150.00. That was a ton 100 years ago.

Well, I didn't sell it to him because I told the guy that I didn't know him. Hell, he could have killed someone and I wouldn't have had a way home. A kid wouldn't get on the bus in the area that he played in.

    LadyDemocrat

  • Thx for the music and taking the time to coalate the pics ect.

  • ACHTUNG Cat Stevens-Fans, auch hier sind reichlich seltene Cat Stevens Fotos zu entdecken.
