  • I recommend playing and praying with some engligh byzantine or gregorian chant, see how much of your person is immersed in prayer. These traditional forms of music don't simply invoke strong simply emotion but immerse the mind, emotion, soul, and heart with feelings/thoughts of devotion, love, repentance and reverence.

  • I love the spoof videos they do of these pretentious emergent church so called pastors too funny!

  • Don't get me wrong I'm all for Ipods and movies and the like but should we be advertising that over sharing the gospel?

  • Who cares if your church has newer tecnology long as the church is helping people getting on the right path to Heaven that should be the only thing churches should care about.

  • seeing xtians put each other down makes me glad to be Jewish

  • That's completely ridiculous.

  • You know, for so long I thought church was about growing in Christ and in fellowship with others... Glad to know that its now about having the most current technology to get us closer in our walk with Christ. Maybe if Jesus had a Twitter account, prayer would be cooler too! This video depresses me.

  • @justinlongshore He totally does though . Check out jesus_m_christ and almightygod. Inspiring. :)

  • is this making fun of traditional worship cuz it's not "cool"?

  • Let's make fun of people who can't afford iPods or who don't dress as cool as us! It's the CHRISTIAN thing to do!

  • Good comment, DaddyMedic. :-)

  • So, if you listen to classical music your not cool then?

  • well, ive been going to a pretty traditional church all my life. at a young age i used to rebel all the time about how my parents made me dress up. now, i dont mind and ive actually come to appreciate it. i know we are meant to honour God in all we do and everywhere we go...so what we wear is irrelevant. whether we dress up or more casually or in all white or black...it's all prefaced by our hearts!

theres nothing wrong with traditional church!

  • So... the elderly who prefer technology and the way they were taught to do things are somehow wrong? He has an iPod, so he's "hip" and can "relate? Or, should I actually judge them based upon what they do and think, rather than on what they look like?

    This is just... sad, honestly.

  • i know right... glad someone feels the same... I mean.. how can we shine light where there is no darkness?! cuz. people tend to think Christianity is a religion. but no. its a relationship with Christ. and not something to be stressed about! gosh!... If we don't connect to the people, then we might as well say "hey we're better than you and you can just go to hell.." tsk

  • I think the religion/relationship thing is a very unhelpful false dichotomy.

If Christianity is not a religion, then why do we have James 1:27 in our Bibles?

  • What does religion even mean to you? Religion is the observance of ceremonial things in regards to the spiritual. In any translation, religion is what we do. So it means works.. Do you think people would get saved because of works? Jesus came to establish a relationship not a religion. What does it mean to be a Christian to you? Does it mean doing all the traditions and ceremonies the church instructs you? If so, I pitty you and pray for you.. Ask a pastor. Ok? How sad

  • Here's how James 1:27 defines "pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father": "to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world." So no, relgiion doesn't mean "doing all the traditions and ceremonies the church instructs you."

Where is "Christianity is not a religion" in our Bibles? I would argue that this itself is a "tradition" in the church. Aside from this, most people understand "religion" to be merely "theistic belief."

  • Also, I strongly agree with you that we're saved by grace, not by works. Is a "religion" something in which we're saved by works? If so, what is the biblical reason for thinking this?

  • And isn't communion a ceremony? Are "ceremony" or "tradition" necessarily bad? The Scriptures instruct us believers to partake in communion.

  • You do have a point tho. I don't have an iPod and never will. To me, this isn't about tossing the old just because it's old.

Personally, I avoid my Church's Praise and Worship service because it's too loud. It hurts my ears. I long for the days when all we had was someone up there with a guitar and an projector.

But I also see that others, who do not dress like me, or listen to the music I like at a volume I can withstand, also serve Christ.

  • YKW, if we all just stayed with the old ways, the world wouldnt like us. not that Im saying that we should compromise for the world. but in the spiritual, there are seasons, and traditional churches tend to not follow, and just be complacent with what they have now. well.. if a church is well groomed, there would be plenty of fruits, now lets see which church gets more fruits? ponder upon it first before replying negatively..

  • and tape decks are still cool! talk about out of touch with what's in and what's not.

  • what is this suppose to mean? That was so gay! They should had focused on the depth of the church if they have any. I don't know any of my non christian friends that would be drown into that. They are intelligent people who look for meaning substance. Wake Bride!

  • While I agree that sometimes ppl go too far to "modernize" the church I think there is nothing wrong with the new christian songs. And listening to Christian rock does NOT make it "fun and games"..

  • I agree, it seems that a lot of the time people go overboard in trying to "modernize" the church. Sometimes making it seem "cool" and "fun" cheapens the message. Being a chistian isn't supposed to be fun and games all the time, it's hard. But besides that.

Personally, I like dressing up for church, It's not required and some people at my chruch don't and we don't look down upon them. I just like it becuase I feel like I am giving my best for the lord when I do my best to look nice.

  • I agree with you s2girl09. I think some things should stay the same. By bringing "christian rock" into the church, its just making it as wordly as you possibly can, but still labeling it as "Godly." Would Jesus Christ be proud to see what music some churches are playing? Music that lifts up the people, and not the name of Jesus Christ? Music that is loud and sounds JUST like that of the world, but with Christian lyrics. We as CHRISTians should be different than the world. In all that we do.

  • if some things should stay the same.. then nothing is retained.. Christians worship differently in the early new testament. so if some things should stay the same, then nothing was retained.. at all

  • Ofcourse we don't worship the same way as they did in the Bible, and that's because we live in a completely different world now. But we can still do our best to be different than the world. "Be ye seperate sayeth the Lord, Touch not the unclean thing, and I will recieve you."

  • being a christian is not supposed to be hard. that is not what jesus said to do. i'm not saying your wrong. infact i agree that people take it too far. i'm just saying being a christian is work and you might want to be carefull how you put or say thing

  • Are you kidding me? Unfortunately, the vast majority of today's "modern praise songs" are pale, pale imitations of the secular popular music of FIVE YEARS AGO! Also the emphasis tends to be on "me" instead of God. Hymns are timeless and classic for a reason.

  • I can agree with that. Our music should be praiseworthy and alotta 'christian' music out there today is just about drinking decaf coffee with Jesus in a lightly colored garment over brunch. Those old hymns should be resurrected in many churches, but also some of these new artists have music that is worthy of recognition as well.

Follow Christ in all things you do and you will be aiight. Philippians 4:13 is a good judge.

  • AGREED! ;)

  • they are classic for a reason. they should stay there...

  • hey... I got it.... I thought it was great .

  • I see your point in conveying the message that you are not required to dress up to go to church, but it seems that you are attacking those that do, making them seem like fools. I do not think that is Biblical at all.

  • I agree. They make it seem like, people who actually care enough to be presentable in the Lord's house, are old farts or something. I'm sorry, but I think it's slightly disrespectful to go into church looking like a bum, when you COULD have dressed up. Put some effort in, at LEAST when you are going to worship God! Yes he loves you no matter what, but just be respectful to him. Go that extra mile. After all, he DID die for you! Would you go into a buisness meeting looking trashy? I think not.

  • and what exactly set the standard that we should dress up? who said so.. and whatever anyways.. church dresses are also from the world.. yes I have to agree that looking your best for church is a must, but what made dresses your best? by what standard? by what reasoning? dresses are presentable to the world. what makes you think that you should force yourself into those suits that are world standard?

  • I don't agree that we have to dress up. Who said? Where is that in the Bible? Isn't that a man-made tradition?

Doesn't the same God see us naked in the shower? How do we show Him respect by putting on fine clothes? Who do we impress by dressing up in our best?

The Bible says the Pharisees dressed up and put on fancy displays on their arm and forehead to impress the people.

I think that's the point of this video. Some Christians today are like the Pharisees of old.

  • Goodness!

    Im so glad someone agrees!

  • But classical music is awesome! Just search "Misere meus" which is a version of Psalm 51 sung in Latin or Ave Verum Corpus, which our choir sings at Easter.

  • you must think cool cuz i go to church and my preacher preach's agaist the movies and you know dont were your going but im going to heaven!!!!!!!!! but there is still hope for you!!!!!!!!
