US news (and Keith Olberman) is shite and terrible on context, when reporting on the UK- and also Europe. And what's with all childish the *noises* in between segments?
Either way the Labour deal was NEVER set. It was just a bad, and very patronising deal for the Libs offered by Labour. Everyone knew that all along. That's why it failed.
Although it is not my preferred result the terms "liberal" and "conservative" are not as used as the US uses them. The overall programmes of these two parties would be on the left of the Democratic Party in congress mind you that is not very left wing in reality.
I hope that Britain has years of coalition governments and gets electoral reform so that 24% of the vote does not lead to < 10% of the seats.
@johncrwarner Yeah UK Conservatives are nothing like US Conservatives. We don't hav Teabaggers, Birthers, & we don't malign our leaders like US Conservatives do. We use wit & sardonic humor with our opponents. Our Conservatives are pro-choice, pro-gay, pro-equality amongst the sexes, pro-civil/human rights, pro-green & they have not a racist bone in their bodies!! For that I am truly grateful. The US is still quite backward in that respect.
@witchwild I assume that is British humour with reference to the British Conservatives who are less anti-gay, less anti-equality, less anti-human rights and less anti-green and less racist than in their past but then again the British political has shifted in the last thirteen years since they were last in power.
@losarman I didn't see Cameron's interview with Gay Times. Anyway I think David Miliband would make a wonderful PM. He reminds me of President Obama. Strong, intuitive, smart, wise, sensitive...& he has a great background! David studied philosophy as well as economics & politics at uni. His dad: left wing intellectual, Mother: Feminist/Historian. He has 2 adopted sons. His wife is a violinist with the London Symphonic Orchestra. Very interesting individual indeed. He'd make a wonderful PM!
@johncrwarner the lib dems will never get 24% of the vote now that they have become con-dems, no more protest votes and no more whiter than white image
@losarman they will win seats however if they can get the electoral system changed as they should have about 150 seats and increased the number of their seats in the election with their increase in vote.
@johncrwarner i dont no where u get the 150 seats, considering at least 8% of their vote this time were lab protest ones and the fact of a lot of the left lib dems (now con-dems) will never either vote or do work for the party again. The activists have been let down badly by clegg and they will never poll such a high figure again
@losarman The lib-dems, I believe, got 23% - 23% of 650 seats should be approximately 150 seats - that would be their true result. They increased their vote by 1% and lost 6 seats in the election gaining only 9% of the seats - that seems a little unfair. If they as you suggest loose a portion of their vote they would have to do as badly as the 1970 election under a proportional system to get less seats than now - so if PR happens - then they will be better off.
i am glad that scotish cunt has left number 10 he wreaked this country

@ToManyPhones The crazy thing is not many people still know this. They think he's disappeared off the face of the earth just because he resigned.

the reason why the lib/lab didnt get going is because the lab backbenchers didnt want it..
there will be no more protest votes going to the libs in future so no more polling 23%-.

@losarman That's because they are going to get alternative voting and it will be much higher (AMIRITE?). LOL

Regardless of country, "striking a deal" with conservatives is as intellectually empty as Sarah Palin.

@mintvagoo I agree. It's like selling your soul to a kindly-faced, secretly evil, demon!
