  • My hetero side just won :)

  • this is reeaaaaaaaaaaaally good

  • I don't really understand what this song is about???

  • @smallshycute It's making fun of the stereotype that Mormons are always freakishly happy. It's saying that the ignore their feelings, in short.

  • i finded the gay box....... I TURNED IT ON!!!!!

  • @743magma Finded? I do believe you mean found.

  • The part with his sister is so fucked up but made my cry of laughter

  • The song before this one and this song is where it really kicks in that the South Park guys wrote this play. LOL

  • @Claramata which one?

  • 8 people don't know how to turn it off.

  • This is soo very funny!!

  • And then he'd try and...

    WOAAAH!

    Turn it off :)

  • I kept hearing about this musical The Book of Mormon on tv and stuff, then I was randomly watching Matt Stone and Trey Parker interviews and found out they made it I was like O.O

  • 8 people didn't realize this is satire... No seriously.

  • "Find the box that's gay and CRUSH IT!!!!!! Okay~?"

    ^I choked. Just... LMAO.

  • 2:12..... no comment..... WOAH! turn it off my hetero side just won :D

  • ha ha ha

  • Edgar Wright linked this from his 30 top tracks of 2011 post. :)

  • this is SOOO very accurate. We really do this. lol

  • "No I'M not having gay thoughts"

    "Alright it worked!!"

    LMAO

  • freedom of speech= this song rocks and the play is even better

  • Cancer too, HAHAHAHAHA,oh *cough*...

  • six people couldn't turn it off

  • I like this song.. and I am a Nord ;o

  • @tobias789987 lmao

  • I'm a nigger! :)

  • i wanna see this so bad

  • Imagine that your brain is made of tiny boxes, and find the box that's gay, and CRUSH IT. Okay?

^Exactly how I feel around my religious preachy friends.

  • Really? People are getting emotional about a song by the men who invented South Park? The entire point of this musical is to point fingers at religion and to, honestly, make people laugh. I laughed. Mission accomplished :D And, if you feel sad about being gay or feeling under pressure, Mormon or not just....

    Turn it off XD

  • greatest show ever.

  • You know, the ppl that wanna write shit about this musical, these is the writers of south park, they feed off the shit you guys write lol they'll make an episode about you;)

  • my favorite song in the whole show. :)

  • I'm not Mormon, but I feel like I have to live like this all the time. I have problems controlling my emotions, but I have to "turn it off."

  • @sunnygrace57 except this is a satirizing of how homosexuals have to live their lives. Just turn it off...cause that's healthy. (sarcasm)

  • @sunnygrace57 ... repression is kind of bad... leads to suicide and craziness...

  • Zeljko brought me here! Thumbs up if you are for the same reason here!!!

  • i wonder what Steve would've done

  • I'm listening to this while writing a paper on gay rights... oh the irony.

  • @pacoturtle1543 That's not irony. You do understand the song is a satire, right?

  • @Slabel are you stupid? obviously this song is a satire, I just found it ironic. damn.

  • @pacoturtle1543 That's not what irony means.

  • If this musical doesn't go on tour soon, I'm going to die. COME ON TOUR DANG YOU!!!! <3 <3

  • Dear Heavenly Father, let this musical tour; and soon!

  • Every time the Utah jazz would lose.......... lol!

  • wtf

  • The song is hilarious but at the same time, sad. All the while being brilliantly orchestrated..

Makes for a damned good musical!

  • *It ends* *Claps like a fool* I looked around, my teacher giving me a funny look.

  • That "dimmer switch" thing is a real belief. The Church officially states that they accept gay people who don't act on them, and some openly gay Mormons do stay in the church while remaining single and celibate...but most of them just deny the feelings even exist in themselves, it's pretty sad.

  • i just love that awkward silence after they all laugh at him thinking he might get cancer too XD

  • I sung this all day at school.

My musical-hater classmates now LOVE IT. Crush it, society.(:

  • Even though Mitt Romney is a Mormon, I think this song applies more to Michelle Bachman's husband.

  • LUL. his dad would abuse his mom every time the Jazz lost. xD

  • i knew they would throw the gay thing in there!! i knew it!

  • I didn't notice that at 2:19 the chorus actually says "WOW!!!!!"

  • Meh

  • Only video ever that made me want to cry, kill someone, and laugh all at the same time.

  • Yep, there's an Ensign article (LDS magazine) from 1981 that teaches the same thing. It's called "The Turn-Off/Walk-Out Factor" - I'd post the link, but you can't do that on YouTube. But anyone who wants to read it can Google the article name.

  • Rory O'Malley is my idol. If Jews could have idols. Oh great, now I look blasphemous, just like this whole musical... oy.

  • @LGBTArtsYouth we can

  • @Saffy43luvs2act cool!

  • @LGBTArtsYouth haha

  • If you love Book of Mormon

go to the face book page The Book of Mormon and like it.

  • the singer sounds a lot like NPH

  • @laserbeamlightning A friend who did theatre for several years explained this tone of voice to me as "Broadway Neutral." It's a non-accent that's light and neutral so everyone can understand it. For most, it's a voice used on stage and acting. For NPH, he was raised in theatre, so he sounds like this -all- the time.

  • Oh admit it, we all have thoughts that we suppress. Religious or not.

  • If mormons were really like that, we wouldn't need other religions

    (it's just a joke)

  • "hey, i've kinda been thinking i might go and kill my grandma..."

    "just turn it off!"

    "OKAY THEN!"

    *switches off life support machine*

  • @BobertBrony Oh god, yes!

  • tags: south park.

i see what you did there.

  • 5 people couldn't turn it off

  • Hey it's Ted Haggard's theme song!

  • The fact that Rory O'Malley/Elder McKinley is this adorable person that you just want to snuggle screams "CRUSH IT" so loudly is just hilarious to me xD

  • O___________O :O I... I... I'm... I can't really voice my feelings about this song... Oh dear God this was just... Funny? Offensive? Disturbing? Brilliant? I just... This is some of the best writing in a musical I've ever heard... I'm stunned...

  • We'd swim naked in the sea, and then he'd try and............ WOA

  • MY HETERO SIDE JUST ONE!

  • The "CRUSH IT!!!" part makes me laugh every single time.

  • I started singing this before church today...thankfully no one heard me P:

  • RELIGION: BECAUSE THINKING IS HARD!

  • Marcus Bachmann's anthem...

  • @wyzrd777 omg, i love you. and thats so true. i can see him singing this to himself in the bathroom when michelle is out...

  • @wyzrd777 "Click"

  • @wyzrd777 no because this song is about NOT sucking cock whenever you feel like you want to lol

  • Comment removed

  • Are Trey and Matt in the play or did they just write and direct it?

  • @Fettster777 They co-wrote with Bobby Lopez from Avenue Q.

  • @Fettster777 They're not in it, sorry.

  • I'm in love.

  • At first I was sort of put off by how all the Mormons singing sounded exactly the same other than Cunningham. Then I realized that's probably exactly what they were going for. :)

  • Let's teach this in pre-school XD

  • "...and find the box that's gay and !!!CRUSH IT!!!!" HAHAHA!

  • Hilarious!!

You're just keeping it down...Like a dimmer switch...on low! FUNNY

  • Hilarious!!

  • AHHH TAP NUMBER!!!! Fantastic song hahaha

  • My advice to the world: Imagine that your brain is made of tiny boxes, and find the box that doesn't like this song and CRUSH IT!!! OK???

  • "...and find the box that's gay and CRUSH IT!" xDD

  • "Her very last words were, 'where is my brother?'"

    "Turn it off!"

    "YA!" :3

    xD

  • "Im extremely into theatre, so im around gay people a lot and they are hilarious(:" @belarieana

Do you have any idea how stereotypical and offensive that is?!

  • Imagine that your brain is made of tiny boxes, find the box that's gay and CRUSH IT, OKAY?!

  • LOL. <3

  • i'd just like to comment that i am mormon, but I love gay people. Im extremly into theater, so im around gay people a lot and they are hilarious(:

I still believe that marriage should be between a man and a wife, but I am not going to ridicule anyone just because of their sexual preferances. To me that is just as bad as racism. Im not going to go to any gay rallies or anything, but I will be friends with gay people if that makes sense.

  • @belarieana thats really really nice!!!!!!!! you made my day seriously :)

  • @belarieana Yes. In other words, you're not completely prejuiced, just a little bit. Awesome. :D

  • i've always been confused about mormanism and any religion that doesn't encourage questioning the religion. how are people supposed to believe what you say when you don't wanna answer their questions about the religion? thats why i love my religion, judaism, that encourages asking any and all questions you have about judaism, and almost all the time getting a really good answer that satisfies you.

  • @YoshiRBeast But ... it's still false.

  • @whateverworks18 Maybe it was just my experience with the Church, but I've been told multiple times growing up not to think about certain things. God could read my mind, and certain thoughts were offensive to him. This was mostly directed towards thoughts of lust and violence, but when I asked difficult questions that my teachers couldn't answer, they would just tell me not to think about it. I was born into a Mormon household, and somewhere between age 18-21 I became an atheist.

  • pssh of course mormons would make a song like this :p

  • How can you not love this song? It makes me feel so happy :D

  • Steve Blade and a Open Homosexuall disliked this Video

  • @Iardass Just making sure you understand they are making fun of homophobia right? Cause' Matt and Trey are big supporters of the gays and gay marriage?

  • @IliketheTitanic1 Of course i know, i am supporting it to, if you watch episodes in SP about that subject you can see theyr supporting it theyr just showing it in they funny way, just dumbasses think theyr homophobic but in the words of them "Either its Ok to make fun about everything or Nothing"! and thats so fucking true

  • This song makes me want to be a gay Mormon!!

  • Rock on Mormons! XD

  • Favorite tune from the musical. I haven't even seen it (yet) and It's my favorite. Fantastic and hilarious!

  • Poor gay box.

  • 1 person did not crush the box that's gay...

  • psychicpebbles anyone?

  • This song kinda creeps me out. No, scratch that. This song freaks the crap out of me.

  • @aquariummelody yeah it's scary but if you met rory o'malley you'd see the irony and just laugh off the scaryness. :P

  • Then find the box this gay an CRUSH IT!!!!!! I peed my jockstrap

  • you know the tune what musical is it from ?

  • Ha! I love Rory!! He's awesome.

  • "My hetero side just won." lmfao, amazing

i literally peed at "Like a dimmer switch, on low."

  • Oh god, this is sick. I love it!

  • I want to put this song in a Stake Roadshow and see if I can get away with it.

  • I love how this song encourages emotional repression in such a happy way. It's a sort of dark humour.

  • lmfao wow

  • this was the best show I've seen on Broadway in years.

  • I'm Mormon and I cannot get mad at this musical. It's just so funny to see what jokes people come up with. The funny thing is that 75 percent of this is semi true. With a mocking humor tone. lol

  • @BenJaminTunes Sorry, I meant to hit the 'like' button. I spoke to some of my Mormon friends, and they said the same thing. It's so sarcastic, but sweet at the same time. So wierd how they can manage to balance the two.

  • Imagine your brain is made of tiny boxes, then find the box that's gay and CRUSH IT!

OK...No, no, I'm not having gay thoughts.

    Alright! It worked! =D YAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay....

  • @willthack13 I listened to just that part about thirty times...

  • This song is a more honest version of what the Church actually teaches. My teachers would always tell us that God doesn't like impure thoughts, and to not think about unclean things.

Suppressing your thoughts instead of dealing with them is very damaging.

  • @Arteia

Depends on the church. Or parish. Or Sunday school teacher. Anyway, I was taught that the first step in solving a problem is admitting having one. Nothing can be done until then.

  • @Arteia

Sadly some people do act like that. I'm a Christian though and I don't suppress anything. Obviously when I start wanting to beat the crap out of someone that pissed me off, I have to stop that thought, lol, but I am a strong believer in psychology. I agree, if you have sad thoughts, or thoughts about someone of the same gender, ignoring them is very damaging.

Other than that, I LOVE these songs, hilarious!

  • @Arteia A refinement to the Mormon Church would be nice. A typical capitalised Church usually suggests the Catholic church as well, but only Christians will know that... Just make sure people know exactly what you're saying!

  • @ScientologyisFTL The Mormon Church has the convenient excuse of having a living prophet, so they literally can make alterations to the Church and say it was a new revelation from God. They did it when they started allowing blacks into the Priesthood, they did it when they stopped practicing polygamy, and they could do it with their stance on homosexuality.

My problem is if they are going to say their prophet speaks to God, they should be pioneering social change, not just following it.

  • @Arteia Haha, I was actually talking more about the grammar of your previous post, not suggesting a refinement to the Mormon Church itself. Like, refining your 'Church' to 'Mormon Church', but thanks for the information it did explain a lot of questions I had. Well, yeah, back in 1978 when God changed his mind. Not the Elders of the Church or the Prophet, but God. So why is it some Morman groups still practice polygamy? They are definitely rogue? Or...sticking to their guns and NOT following it.

  • @ScientologyisFTL Mainstream Mormons don't practice polygamy anymore, but there is an offshoot of Mormonism call the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. There isn't enough room to get into detail, so you should check out the Wiki page on Emma Smith, specifically the section called "Later years in Nauvoo, 1844–1879." I find it interesting how political the succession process is. God sure doesn't choose his prophets like he used to.

  • @Arteia thats not true at all.... and before you say that i do not know what I am talking about, i found my dad's reletively new psychiatric reserch book, and there is an entire section called "catharsism: false happyness for the stuipid" im not calling you stuipid, just pointing out the fact that its not true

  • @mkyb843 So it's not true because your dad's psychiatric book says so. Well I've been an active Mormon for almost 20 years. I know what I've been taught. I'm not making this up.

  • @Arteia no, i just ment about the emotions thing....im cool with anything you believe....sorry if it came out wrong =)

  • @mkyb843 Ah, that makes more sense. I thought you were talking about the first part of my post, and you were talking about the last part.

I'm gay, and being raised Mormon meant I had to hide it/try to change it. It was damaging. But bottling things up in general may not be,

  • @Arteia What kind of church do you go to?

I'd definitly be atheist if that's what God wanted

  • @inthedark222 I used to go to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I did so for over 20 years. It was about the time I was supposed to serve my mission that I had to really examine myself and my beliefs. I used to think my testimony was unbreakable, but the truth was I never challenged it enough.

  • Hahahahaajahahahahaa

  • Exactly what my Priest told me...Turn it off!...HaHaHa

  • Hey ke$ha...TAKE IT OFF!!!

  • I can just picture this in my head! "find the box that's gay AND CRUSH IT!"

  • brilliant

  • by far my favorite song in the whole show and seeing it live it made me laugh so had!

  • so true.
