On the subject of eye color, my bio professor says that everyone has 2 layers of melanin in their iris. The back layer is just melanin (just brown) and the top layer can have a lot of melanin or very little of it. Blue-eyed folks have barely any so the light hits the eyes in a way that refracts blue light. Same as how it hits the sky & makes it blue. Green & hazel eyes have more melanin but its scattered unevenly. Nana is right about the homo/heterozygous symbols.

@NanaNarcotic we learned in school... it only exist blue and brown.... and dominent genes and recressive genes...you have a mix of blue and brown eyes (genes) and that gives you somthing that look like green but its really brown with blue in them.... I dont remember if it was Blue or Brown that was the dominant colour.... but I think it was blue.... but might green too.... :3

@CaroSnow96 Green is not a combination of blue and brown. To have green eyes one of your parents needs to have green eyes (containing the lowercase recessive gene for that eye colour.) Two parents with blue eyes (two pairs of bb) wont ever have a child with brown eyes. However if two brown eyed parents carry the recessive gene for lighter eyes (Bb) theres a 50% chance the child wont get brown eyes. Green eyes are dominant over blue and recessive to brown. My mom has green eyes and my dad blue.

Blue, green and other light eye colours like grey are caused by the same gene mutation, and brown eyes are caused by a different gene. The amount of melanin in the eye determines the eye color :/ The more, the darker, the less, the lighter. I think it's silly to be debating about genetics on here LOL

Blue and Brown... and its only BB ( Blue-Blue ) that is the real blue colour.... but u have green... so its Bb (Blue-brown) but its green cos of what you say.... diffrent amount....but if we talk kromosomes and such..... u see.. I had this THIS year at school.. so I know ur both right and wrong.... im not talking about melanin...

@CaroSnow96 You have a misunderstanding. Uppercase B is used to represent dominant traits while lowercase b is used for recessive traits. Brown and blue are just the most common default example when you do the Punnett Square. It has nothing to do with B being blue and b being brown. BB is the Homozygous dominant gene and bb is the Homozygous Recessive gene.
