I heard this song on a local station, called and asked for more info. I bought the cd and took it with me on long work trips- great gig taking cultural art projects all over the state. It was in my stereo when my stereo was taken... I should buy another copy. reminds me of such a good time in my career. this soundtrack kept me quite grounded for a while. thx for the post and for the song!
My life hums along to this song...a soundtrack perhaps...touches me deep...stirs up eddies in the dust...no footprints where this goes...the lions are still watching us pacing the cage....waiting for bust out time
help.....so many years ago, I had on cassette tape, one of his albums that was almost Asian sounding....and I remember one song with the line in it "stiff bamboo"..does anyone remember the name of that album...it was great!!!
@LaurenandSteveP it's from the song 'festival of friends' on the album 'night vision'; written for some friends whose baby had died of SIDS, i believe. a beautiful, haunting song. blessed be
@LaurenandSteveP many of his songs in that era were christian...try also.."...love song...all the diamonds...dweller by a dark stream...gavin's woodpile...god bless the children...dialogue with the devil...can i go wih you...' among others. the song you are quoting from, though IS festival of friends
Great song -- I've loved this one for years. Jimmy Buffett did this one on his Beach House on the Moon album, but it just doesn't compare to Bruce's version.
Bruce Cockburn's Pacing the Cage is an all-time favorite of mine. At the same time, especially for the variety it offers, the Paper Rival version is very nicely done. I like it, too, and am glad that member theycallmejewfro mentions it here.
Bruce is a gifted and talented singer songwriter and a virtuoso guitar player. This is one of many superb songs he has written and performed. Thank God that the internet provides a platform for quality and genius to reach a worl wide audience !

Except that this song has been around since the early 90s. Jimmy Buffet did a cover of it on Beach House on the Moon in 92.

Wow, that stupid little graphic, at the beginning, really ruins the beauty of this performance!

Fucking fantastic! I've loved this song since I first heard it on Jimmy Buffett's Banana Wind album. That's what led me to Cockburn's music.

dancing in paradise from world of wonders..."...
young girl stares pensively from dark door in pale blue wall
Big About and friends at their crossroads bar
with its dirt corral for dancing
drink soursop juice all day long
in quest of the perpetual stiff bamboo
and there's DANCING IN PARADISE...

Question for my fellow Cockburn fans: What was the song from the 70's about Jesus? I just remember the line, "...and He's coming again."

There was the wonderful 'Lord Of The Starfields', that is certainly worthy of attention.
And, if you want to listen to a nice song about Christ, take a listen to Turley Richards
