Sounds like the western music that was on those old western sitcoms&movies of years ago. I picture a covered wagon being pulled by a team of horses taking a young family to some new frontier in the old west&the western late afternoon sun setting down under the horizon.
@Clairs88 I don't know if you are familiar with Metheny's "Last Train Home," but if you like this, I suggest it very highly along with "It's for You," from AS FALLS WICHITA, SO FALLS WICHITA FALLS (with Lyle Mays).
Great song, great album, makes my imagination work overtime ;-) I see ... . picturesque valleys ... spring ... the road... the car ... small town ... facing west ... :-) ... with someone I love :-)
The whole album is brilliant. Whether you call it jazz, orchestral or whatever, it is simply great music. The bonus tracks on the reissued album are also well worth hearing with beautiful harmonica from Toots Thielmans.
i heard this in CA when i was younger, me and my sisters and dad would go on long saturday errends and we'd always listen to this, it was our adventure theme song. Then we moved 2 Georgia. But Davis CA is west of there, and when i think of our good memories together, i can always Face West.
Where do I know this song from?

wonderfully optimistic music, feels like wide open spaces, there's a sublime passage around 2.50 where he's following the chord change-magic

Pat Metheny never ceases to amaze me! In his solos, how the hell does play over those chords so easily??

This song goes great with a helicopter ride over snowcapped mountains to a glacier in Skagway, Alaska. Love this music. Time for a road trip!

OK, this is going to sound ridiculous, but this song sounds rather similar to the music for Mario Kart 64's Rainbow Road.
You be the judge:

Obviously not identical, but similar, and just something fun for anyone who is a fan of both Pat and MK64. :)
Happy New Year to everyone. (I'm facing west as I type this.)

You're bad. I love Metheny's music. But something about him invites jest. I obviously don't have to explain it to you. Here's to humor.
