Just saw on the news tonight that one of the Nelson Lakes is voted the cleanest, purest in the world. Lets keep it that way.

@taumarunui05 Yes absolutely I'm with you on that, but I'm afraid that's despite people, who from what I see living on the Waimea Plains where neighbors will light any old rubbish fires and leave it smoldering for days are not that concerned for the environment. it only needs a few thoughtless people to spoil it for the rest. so lets try to keep NZ clean and green.

Nelson Lakes National Park (established in 1956) is situated in the north of New Zealand's South Island. This park protects 102,000 hectares of the northern most Southern Alps. The park offers tranquil beech forest, craggy mountains, clear streams and lakes both big and small.

Thanks for the comment, I leave the HF10 on auto and then edit out the rubbish, the shots on the water were with a wide angle attachment.

The editing program is Corel Pro X2 and to encode for Youtube I use 1280x720P and ffdshow h264 at 5000kbps and the audio is MPEG Layer 2 joint stereo at 44,100kHz 128kbps straight from Pro X2, if you need the ffdshow setup let me know,

Thanks for the quick response. I think you used 1080/60i and set all the other things like white balance to auto, right? I am new with hf10, and my shot was never as good as yours. I tried 1080/30P(24P) with cinema mode, but it was not quite impressive. It seems that I have to do more practice :-)

My HF10 is PAL so it's 1920x1080/50i one thing you could try is put the video preset to "vivid" I've got it set to "Image effect off" at the moment but if the weather is a bit overcast I switch it to "vivid" it makes it look better. one thing I have found is it doesn't like fast pans and now mostly I use a small tripod and if I remember for shots on land I switch off the stabilizer

Thanks for the tips. I will definitely try them out next time when I go out. A little confused about the "fast pans" part, though. I'm trying to get a 57 inch tripod and hope it is good enough for the cam. Also, why did you switch off the stabilizer? I thought it was good idea to always set it on.

By fast pans I mean swinging the camera across a scene when filming if you do it fast the picture goes soft it's better to follow something across a scene so the eye follows the moving object.

There is a technique were you take a 5 sec clip and then pan slowly for 5 sec and then do another 5 sec clip, it gives you 3 options when editing 2 still clips and one panning shot.

If you leave the stabilizer on when you use a tripod it introduces a wobbly effect when there is none,.

I've just put on a new video that might be of use to you if you are using Corel Video Studio ProX2 it is how I set up ffdshow and now SuperC (both freeware) to allow me to use the same ffdshow h264 5000kbps video on both Vimeo and Youtube by re-encoding the audio to AAC using SuperC, something I couldn't do before, the 12 sec video at the end is using 5000kbps h264 with AAC audio at 128kbps.
