'Sticky Filth' have their honorable place but so much came before them. Apart from the early protagonists such as 'Suburban Reptiles' and 'The Androidss' (depending on how we define 'punk', which is part of its beauty, IMHO), there was 'The Instigators', 'Riot 111', and the best pub band, 'No Idea'. Has anyone seen a left handed bassist play with an upside down instrument and sing with such passion? The three piece sound track to my mid80s life in Chch.
I still think Toy Love and Citizen band were the two greatest NZ groups ever. I've never experienced the sheer excitement of their music from anyone else. Ah memories!
I saw these guys about a month later in a bar called the 'corner bar' in the old Hamilton Hotel in Hamilton...I still rate it as one of the most amazing gigs I ever saw, I had just turned 17 and it had such an effect on me...thanks for the memories
This is so good, really brings back memories. These guys are still the best.Where was this? I saw them 3 nights in a row once, at the DB Esplanade at Devonport and the Gluepot.

Toy Love, amongst NZ's best punk bands ... along with Warners and Sticky Filth.
Shame to hear about Chris Knox :'( The guy is supremely talented.
