Eric and Jimi were good friends, this would have been in reference to the Monterey Pop Festival where Jimi bent his guitar so out of tune and did a quick check – Eric shouted out 'What are you going to do now?' and Jimi said 'I'll show you' and went on to play 'Wild Thing' before burning his guitar.

There's a great interview where Eric says he bought Jimi a left handed guitar the night before he died, took it to a gig and couldn't get it to him. He's in tears afterwards. Best of friends.

This was funny. Btw Clapton and Hendrix were both incredible musicians. What they did was subtle but spectacular. Clapton made a career out of pentatonic minor but he's creative soulful and never lost. Jimi broke barriers.

I think he wrote it by feeling, but he's a genius either way. Getting back to my comment on Clapton. Great guitarist but made a career out of playing the pentatonic minor scale over and over.
