"insane" means being mentally ill, which implies one has a mental handicap. do nothing for society?many competent and healthy people do nothing for society, what have you done lately? how many sane criminals are there in jail? we all share the right to life - especially given mental illness is something that can't be controlled,similar to gender, race, etc. What if your mother was bipolar, would you support euthanasia because she "doesn't do anything for society"?

Anyway, when (and if) I said I support euthanasia for the mentally handicapped, I was probably referring to people with severe mental illness who can't live on their own. People with bipolar disorder can get along fine. Also, I should probably go ahead and say I support the death penalty too.

I support funding for help for victims and their families (we agree on this one). I do not agree with him being put into a psychiatric facility, but if that's what the justice system wants to do, so be it.

There was no chance to help. He stabbed the guy in the neck as he was sleeping. The first stab killed him. You're talking about Canadians, and if there is a chance to save a life, most of us will be there. But seeing a man be stabbed in the throat several times initiates the flight response.

A bad childhood or the fact that he has family makes no difference; A) he stabbed somebody sixty times in the neck, decapitating him. B) the death penalty is a punishment, and for that kind of cruel, public crime deserves it. C) Whether or not he is crazy, every one has moral, every one knows right from wrong. You know, I normally agee with phil on many fronts but i cant see the logic here. Humans are not like grapes. That guy had a mum and a dad, maybe siblings. If there was something mentally wrong with him, you dont "throw it away" You can't just git rid of people because there isn't something right with them in the head.
