@pettyofficer30 oh yeah. its happened in the past (quite recently too) 1859 / 1921 respectively. no atms, cell phones, direct deposit back then.. if the same type of cme (coronal masss ejection) were to happen today.. satelites, all electronic circuitry, water pumping stations, food production, medical services (as we know them today will cease to exist) and i don't think that we will ever be able to recover 100%.

@SpirituallyTuned No. The particles would interact with the magnetic field. Large solar flares are quite common, and the Earth is well protected. At worst, you'd be looking at major electrical issues, and increased electrical storm activity.

@Clay3613 Not entirely true. As the sun gives off the solar wind, it loses mass into space. Thus, the strength of it's gravitational pull is weakened, resulting in the planets moving outwards from the sun, likely leaving the Earth in a much more distant orbit. There's a chance - albeit a slim one - that the Earth could survive the initial red-giant transition (when He is first fused). But the potential second and third (Li and Be fusion) would then likely do the trick.
