If they were to be legally regulated and made available for addicts to use, you'd probably see a relaxation of rackets and crimes on the inside too.
They being legal will not make more people do them and a percentage of the money saved from the drug war being invalidated and stopped can be diverted into treatment and awareness.

Even people that are incarcerated find a way to get hard drugs and use them. It is the main racket in prison and it feeds much of the crime inside prisons. If they were to be legally regulated and made available for addicts to use, you'd probably see a relaxation of rackets and crimes on the inside too.

Even if it is heroin and coke. People should not be controlled by the state as to what they put into their own bodies. You cannot control the minds and actions of strong willed people. That is ancient knowledge. All it does is cause rebellion and costs the system much more money. The real problem is treatment. People will do more of these harder drugs just because it is illegal. Breaking the law for some of these addicts is just as addicting as the drug itself.
