  • Does anyone else who was there remember the name of the song? I can't remember what she said it was called. : (

  • stunningly beautiful

  • Wow. Anyone know where to buy a hardingfele in America?

  • I maybe wrong, but it seems this woman is Annbjorg Lien, playing the hardingfele. So more northern than Scotland ;)

  • absolutely, this is a hardingfele, the norwegian violin. To me the best sound ever ;)

  • Scottish?. The girl is from Norway, the fiddle is a Norwegian Hardingfiddle and the tune is Norwegian.

  • @BikePacker78 Aye. Certainly not scottish at all.

  • @BikePacker78 yes, thats true about this piece, however the camp that generates this show is based on Scottish fiddle tunes. It's billed as the scottish fiddlers school when they perform, although they do branch out.

  • @whasittoya

I'll give you one more try. ;)

  • @BikePacker78 lol 6 lik a normal violin? looks like you arent a clever dick after all and just a dick :D

  • @dwaynedibbly of course ur right, but its still a hardingfiddle :).

  • Absolutely wonderful!!

But, you cut it! no fair!

With playing that good, we don't care if it's two minutes, or ten minutes,

we want to hear the whole thing!

  • Wow. That Hardingfele has such a haunting and beautiful quality to its sounds. No doubt the work of those sympathetic strings.

  • Someday I need to get to this workshop - my favorite celtic group, Kirkmount, got their start attending a Valley of the Moon Fiddle Camp when they were kids.

  • The upper strings are probably tuned from bottom-up AEAC#. That kind of tuning is called trollstilt.

  • As many pointed out, this is not scottish music and dance traditions, these are norwegian tunes. Widen your horizons, not all fiddle music is irish/scottish.

At the end she starts on a traditional tune called Fanitullen.

  • Beautiful tune!!.....I just love it, i notise it sounds Scandinavian?.....

  • Amazing! Beautiful sound!

  • Hardingfele (Hardanger Fiddle) is normally tuned a whole tone higher than a regular violin, with the resonating understrings tuned in various ways to resonate when the upper strings are played.

  • Ah,quite nise

  • That's great!

  • Great music:) Love it!

  • This music awakens my soul

  • Very nice sound and very nice playing. Does anyone know if the hardanger is tuned like a mandolin? I know it has eight strings. Also is the string set up EADG?

  • Does anyone know the name of the song she is playing?

  • Thanks for posting this. This is one of the very best fiddle videos on youtube.

  • The sound is so captivating...Thanks brickadoodle for posting this!

    All the stars*****

  • Annbjorg plays Norwegian hardanger fiddle. Check out her albums! She was on faculty at this Scottish fiddle camp. Some histories of Scottish music mention a possible influence from hardanger fiddle. This clip introduced me to hardanger and now I'm hooked!

  • I heard the Hardanger in Glasgow about three years ago I must admit its a cracking Baroque instrument. Your right this style influenced the Scottish fiddle style especially the Shetland style which is almost practically identical although not played on a Hardanger.

  • Fabulous - but it's Norwegian fiddling, isn't it? I mean.....it sounds like the Norwegian cds I own....

  • gyönyörű! :D

  • What instrument is this? it doesn't look like a violin? Someone mentioned a Hardanger?

  • Yes, that would be a hardanger! Cool, yeah?

  • What is the title???

    Do I hear a bagpipe???

    I'm Captured!!!

  • no that would only the hardanger you hear. Isn't that cool?

  • The sound is captivating...Thanks!

  • Who is this playing? She's amazing!

  • Does anyone know the name of this tune?

  • WOW what a beautiful sound!!!

    Thanks for posting this...

  • Thanks for posting this clip of Annbjørg! Whether she's playing traditional tunes or more progressive ones, she's always amazing.

  • sounds like a bagpipe is playing along with her,,love it,,

  • wow

  • Great tune! Unique example of open tuning on a Hardanger! What is the name of this tune?

  • Beautiful! Loved every second of it!

  • Yes! Please post Catriona and any other parts of the show if you have them! This is great!

  • This is unmistakable a traditional norwegian tune played on a Hardanger fiddle or hardingfele (traditional norwegian instrument).

  • Yes. While the brickadoodle's description talks about VOM teaching music of the Scottish tradition, in its 20+ year history, musicians from many related traditions have been invited to teach there. This video is of Ann-Bjorg Lien.
