These guys rocked when real hard rock bands like Savatage stood way above most of the hair bands back in the '80s into the early 90s.
Criss was an exceptional guitarist with chops, stellar stage presence, and the looks of a true pro. Love the part where he nods to change his guitar after popping a string. True professionalism in it's finest hour. R.I.P. forever. Thanks for sharing these awesome memories. Cheers.
awesome video thank you for sharing. I will never forget the classic line up of this band. So seriously under rated and overlooked.... so many great tunes!!!!! Oh God my heart aches for the old days again
@Hydrophish - I know..they did great. I didnt notice it until I saw him pick the string out from between his frets so he could play and the string was dangling...right in the middle of his lead. Singer did a great job distracting while he switched guitars. Very Professional.
did you notice criss breaks a string in the solo and doesn't miss a lick and then changes guitars. i'm not a diehard fan but i've always liked this whole album and stranges wings is my favorite song by savatage. liked it since it came out on Z-Rock in cleveland. thanks guys for music and r.i.p. criss.
Savatage 1987. Dungeons era was killer and Sirens too, also Power of the Night, but this was the time! I really miss Criss, but I also miss the old Jon, you know the one I speak of, when he had that special look in his eye as he was singing alongside the best metal guitarist that has ever lived. A big part of Jon died on October 17, 1993, in fact a big part of us all died on that date. We love you Criss. Thank you for the Metal you gave us in your short time here, it will never die.
@ChivalrousMike I'm guessing I know more than you, being that his name is spelled Jon Oliva. Back in the early days, Jon's brother Criss co-wrote much of the music with him. Once we get into Hall of the Mountain King and Gutter Ballet, there was this little guy named Paul O'Neill who was a major writing influence to the band, co-writing most of the songs. I could go into more detail, but I'm running out of characters. I love Jon, but to say he wrote EVERYTHING in Savatage is terribly inaccurate.
@Necromancerocks you are right bro.. u can tell how the lyrics start to change when paul o'niel joind, personaly i think with paul the lyrics got much better . i like the old stuff , but i like 1987 and up better
There is epic. But this is Legend!! Long live Savatage!!!
