It all comes down to the drivers, it seems. The GTR driver is novice; he makes unpredictable movements and excessive inputs, unsettling balance of a car. If driven that way, the car feels nervous but it's nowhere near the liimt. GT3 pilot on the other hand, is smoother and consistent. No wonder GTR can't shake him off.

The driver has a lot to do with how well the cars perform, who's driving? ONe driver may be able to push harder or brake earlier, I don't take these video too seriously because it's not just car against car.

the gtr is definetly the faster car on the ring, no doubt about this. the driver of the gtr does not really know the ring. i guess the gt3rs driver has more experience on this track. But both have to practice...enjoy your cars
clearly both drivers know the Ring very well. But still the guy on the GTR missed apexes on every other turn so the GT3 guy would catch up easily. I know I have not driven any of these but I am a karter and know this. Keep practising! Super cars! congrats.
even with missing almost every apex he's still ahead. With good driver the gtr would have had a bigger lead. I drove my cousin's gtr in southern cal, that is one sick car-the gtr.

The GTR has all kinds of electronic helpers and stability programm setups, the 996 GT3 has none, exept for ABS, not even a traction control, so the drivers performance in the GT3 was way better...
GT-R driver's lines were bad and he was jerking the car around... GT3 was very smooth in his lines... .even thou the Godzilla would get away in the open streches, the GT3 could catch up... good brakes and handling. Great vid to watch. I like they way they were blowing past all the casual drivers!
i can tell the porsche driver has a ton more experience on the ring than the gtr driver. it's just way easier to drive a gtr to the limit than a porsche or a zr1.
Actually its almost impossible to drive a GTR to its limit because the limit is almost invincible. The car does not send the required feedback that drivers need when they are about to hit the limit. Because of this most GTR drivers are more cautious than 911 drivers because you really don't know were the limit is.
The gtr driver in this video is not really a good driver but the porsche driver is.
I think the gtr comes in 2 different tires, one are the run flats and the other the non-runflats. I suspect the 7:26 lap time was done on the non-runflat and the 7:39 was on runflats. Also the 7:26 lap time was done by one of the fastest drivers Japan has to offer and I do not know how fast the Sport auto test driver was.
"We" Porsche owners dont object to there being other great cars, in fact having driven the GTR I think it's a great car at a fantastic pricepoint. I personally would prefer the M3 as I dont like Turbo engines but that's preference. What I think we DO object to is the blatant lies about lap times and how blindly the GTR community believes them. The new 997 GT3 is 7:40. All my data points on track would seem to inidcate that that's about right, ie GTR can do around 7:40.

Plenty of Porsche guys readily accept the reality of other capable cars being out there as decent or even worthy competition. That's why they race. In all fairness FIRSTWINNER is right on target. It's obviously an older GT3 (380 horse, give or take a bit, normally aspirated) keeping pace with the latest techno-wunder from Nippon. Like the ads say, that box of Nissan parts can make even a novice look good... for a while.

This is a 996 GT3 RS ,it's a 381 hp non turbo for crying out loud! Of cource the GT-R outperforms it ,it's a 100hp more than the RS plus a 4 wheel drive and a turbo.
a 997GT3 RS would be closer or even beat it in the corners ,becouse the power to weight ratio is better for the Porsche.
Or bring a 997GT2 ,harder to control but when done right ,it would own the GT-R.

Well the porsche has the same traffic.. And it actually seems like it can keep up and on some occation like in 5:02 the Nissan is going as fast as it can in the corner (look at its rear) and the porsche is letting go of throttle because its in the rear of the Nissan.
Its a 100hk more in that Nissan if its stock.
This is not the fastest porsche and the GT2 is killing it on the track. I know that there is a video on tube where they test the nissan against gt2 on the ring and the porsche is faster
i gotta give it to the porsche driver, he keeps up with with the GT-R beast dispite the power difference. Hes a good driver, taking corners like that.
The Porsche driver is much better, notice the major mistake at 2:02. Had it been my Subaru i would have understeered it off the track at that instant lucky the GT-R handles well.
You could see that the GT-R was way faster. It was only the traffic that was allowing the GT3 to stay close a lot of the time. So for about half the price you get a much quicker car. Sounds good to me.

The GTR is awesomw fast on the fast sections, traction at corner exit seems endless... wow! But somehow didn't like how it entered some corners, seemed not smooth, as if changing direction too suddenly, almost upseting the rear on a pair of ocassions. Maybe just seems so, but the car is outstandingly fast!
I've got a 996tt, and raced with some new gtr's. Bottom line, it'll come to the drivers skill. they are both extremely close. BTW, the 996tt doesn't even seem like he's coming close to redline before shifting.
You can hear clearly that the GT3 Driver does sometimes, after a corner, 1-2 seconds not full open the throttle. In opposite the GTR Driver has sometimes trouble to keep the car straight on the road... very, very interesting. I would love to see what happened, if the 911 would be unleashed.

Well actualy the GTR's Preformance is great but is also is a misconception as well.
Most may think that 0-60 is every thing as well as grip and handeling. But the trueth is that after about 110 the Nissans gear ration at high speeds is rubish. Infact almost all porches will have a top speed over it, not only that they will get there faster then the Nissan. So yes your Atomatic robo-car launch controll is faster 0-60. But if you bring this on the auto bann your toast.

Thought I just highlight this. This is a 996, not a 997. 996 is 1999-2004 ? 2005 ? Correct me if I'm wrong. This is putting out about 381hp.

clearly both drivers know the Ring very well. But still the guy on the GTR missed apexes on every other turn so the GT3 guy would catch up easily. I know I have not driven any of these but I am a karter and know this. Keep practising! Super cars! congrats.

The GTR has all kinds of electronic helpers and stability programm setups, the 996 GT3 has none, exept for ABS, not even a traction control, so the drivers performance in the GT3 was way better...

GT-R driver's lines were bad and he was jerking the car around... GT3 was very smooth in his lines... .even thou the Godzilla would get away in the open streches, the GT3 could catch up... good brakes and handling. Great vid to watch. I like they way they were blowing past all the casual drivers!

Actually its almost impossible to drive a GTR to its limit because the limit is almost invincible. The car does not send the required feedback that drivers need when they are about to hit the limit. Because of this most GTR drivers are more cautious than 911 drivers because you really don't know were the limit is.

The gtr driver in this video is not really a good driver but the porsche driver is.
I think the gtr comes in 2 different tires, one are the run flats and the other the non-runflats. I suspect the 7:26 lap time was done on the non-runflat and the 7:39 was on runflats. Also the 7:26 lap time was done by one of the fastest drivers Japan has to offer and I do not know how fast the Sport auto test driver was.

"We" Porsche owners dont object to there being other great cars, in fact having driven the GTR I think it's a great car at a fantastic pricepoint. I personally would prefer the M3 as I dont like Turbo engines but that's preference. What I think we DO object to is the blatant lies about lap times and how blindly the GTR community believes them. This video, both capable drivers, proves that that's nothing more than a lie. the only REAL laptime on the Ring for the GTR that I believe is Sport Auto's 7:39. This video confirms that. The new 997 GT3 is 7:40. All my data points on track would seem to inidcate that that's about right, ie GTR can do around 7:40.

Plenty of Porsche guys readily accept the reality of other capable cars being out there as decent or even worthy competition. That's why they race. In all fairness FIRSTWINNER is right on target. It's obviously an older GT3 (380 horse, give or take a bit, normally aspirated) keeping pace with the latest techno-wunder from Nippon. Like the ads say, that box of Nissan parts can make even a novice look good... for a while.

This is a 996 GT3 RS ,it's a 381 hp non turbo for crying out loud! Of cource the GT-R outperforms it ,it's a 100hp more than the RS plus a 4 wheel drive and a turbo.
a 997GT3 RS would be closer or even beat it in the corners ,becouse the power to weight ratio is better for the Porsche.
Or bring a 997GT2 ,harder to control but when done right ,it would own the GT-R.
Don't get me wrong ,the GT-R is an incredible machine...but Porsche...is just Porsche ;)

That said - one commentor states that the GTR is slowing the GT3 down. Um no. The cars IN FRONT of the GTR are the only reason the GT3 continued to see the GTR. Each Porsche hugger should kiss Nissans hiney as each of Porsches cars improved vastly after having it's ass handed to it by the GTR.

@masonizere The GT2 does beat it, your comparing that 7:26.7 Factory Claim, to an Independant test done not by the factory, if you compare both Independants, than you get a 7:32 for the GT2, and a 7:38 for the GT-R, i agree for what the GT-R's weight of 3,789lbs and 480bhp, vs GT2 530bhp and 3,167lbs, but your also forgetting the R35 has a Dual Clutch with 4wd, but at 192k for a GT2, i do agree the GT-R is the better all round performer.

Well the porsche has the same traffic.. And it actually seems like it can keep up and on some occation like in 5:02 the Nissan is going as fast as it can in the corner (look at its rear) and the porsche is letting go of throttle because its in the rear of the Nissan.
Its a 100hk more in that Nissan if its stock.
This is not the fastest porsche and the GT2 is killing it on the track. I know that there is a video on tube where they test the nissan against gt2 on the ring and the porsche is faster

You could see that the GT-R was way faster. It was only the traffic that was allowing the GT3 to stay close a lot of the time. So for about half the price you get a much quicker car. Sounds good to me.

The GTR is awesomw fast on the fast sections, traction at corner exit seems endless... wow! But somehow didn't like how it entered some corners, seemed not smooth, as if changing direction too suddenly, almost upseting the rear on a pair of ocassions. Maybe just seems so, but the car is outstandingly fast!

I've got a 996tt, and raced with some new gtr's. Bottom line, it'll come to the drivers skill. they are both extremely close. BTW, the 996tt doesn't even seem like he's coming close to redline before shifting.

You can hear clearly that the GT3 Driver does sometimes, after a corner, 1-2 seconds not full open the throttle. In opposite the GTR Driver has sometimes trouble to keep the car straight on the road... very, very interesting. I would love to see what happened, if the 911 would be unleashed.

Well actualy the GTR's Preformance is great but is also is a misconception as well.
Most may think that 0-60 is every thing as well as grip and handeling. But the trueth is that after about 110 the Nissans gear ration at high speeds is rubish. Infact almost all porches will have a top speed over it, not only that they will get there faster then the Nissan. So yes your Atomatic robo-car launch controll is faster 0-60. But if you bring this on the auto bann your toast.
