  • Sir you saved my life. I laid down pulled my knees to my chest and held them there for like 10 minutes and did funny little sit ups, rocking back and forth for a while. I also tried to swivel from left to right and right to left with the small of my back on the floor. I feel a lot better now. I will do this daily form here on out. thanks.

  • @MrAppleseed88 You made my day! I am so pleased to hear I was able to help! Please take care of yourself and remember to do just a bit more each day. Don't overdo it at first. Listen to your body and take it slow! Good luck to you!

  • Sciatica actually saved my life! I had (and still have) sciatica for almost a year now. This past summer we finally went to the doctor and she prescribed me steroids. Well after a week a was extremely sick. We went to the hospital and the steroids raised my blood sugar to over 600! I was on the verge of going into a sugar coma! They later diagnosed me with Type 1 Diabetes. They said I probably had it my whole life. But if I never had sciatica, I wouldve never found out about my diabetes.

  • @jasonpatrick72 Life is full of interesting twists, isn't it? My doctor went in to fix one thing & found a massive infection. I was very close to death & didn't know it! Glad to hear things worked out for you. I hope someday you're able to rid yourself of the pain too. Good luck to you Jason!

  • @JohnZajaros Thanks!

  • will a heating pad help??

  • @seyness1 NO! Read: "Ultimate Bad Back Strategies: The Bad Back Guy Discusses Heat vs Ice for Neck Pain, Back Pain and/or Sciatica" Good luck to you!

  • i am so glad to have found you sir...

having a bad "bout" for about 4 days now and the pain is rediculous.

i have been doing the exact opposite n using boiling hot water in the shower n a heating pad...ill be getting the frozen peas out now.thank you for your advice.

  • @thaena1 You & people like you are the reason why I made the neck pain, back pain, and sciatica relief videos! I've been unjustly attacked, called a spammer, had sites banned, and worse. All I have ever done is offer advice. Advice based on my experience, education & research. I've looked at over 10,000 skeletons & I understand, as well as anyone alive, from the perspective of an academic AND a patient what is going on with the spine & SI joint. NO ONE should have to live in constant pain. ;-) Z

  • @JohnZajaros :) im all better now.x

  • @JohnZajaros hi john, i would like some advice.

im going overseas and my flight is 14 hours straight, i suffer from very bad sciatic pain in my lower back,

what should i do to avoid this pain on the flight? btw i would have not went if this trip wasnt important.

    thank you.

  • @JohnZajaros i've studied for 4 years to understand and effectively treat back pain and sciatic nerve pain among other musculoskeletal problems. And you're entitled to your opinion, however when you say try everything but surgery first, you're wrong, often the slightest alteration and re-education in postural control mobility and strengthening exercises can cure most musculoskeletal problems, surgery should be and by the national guidelines where i work is considered the last option.

  • @MrLiamdenison Watch and LISTEN to the video again! You have it bass-ackwards! We are in total agreement! Surgery is a last resort...always! I don't know how you got the message you did? Surgery as a last resort is a constant theme throughout my videos. In fact, through all of my content! Good luck to you!

  • I am in such pain with sciatica!? At the mo. I've had it on and off since I was 18 and after a few days of anti inflammatorys I'm usually better. But now at 33 I'm having the worst time ever, it feels like I have a trapped nerve in my left buttock and I've got shooting pains down my left leg, pins and needles in my foot. All I can do to relieve is sit or crouch, I take 3 anti inflams a day as maximum dose and paracetomol as well too.

  • I'm a big gnarly looking bloke and I'm not joking sciatica has had me crying, once when I was walking around Asda (UK's walmart). The only relief I can get, short of pumping myself full of strong painkillers is to lie on my sofa with cushions under my knees or my legs up on the back of the sofa. I can't work right now but I still have to take care of my three kids while my extremely patient wife is at work.

    Sciatica is a bitch.

  • @mafoota Use ice, get your knees above your hips (pillows-rolled up blankets). I use a recliner, ice my lumbar region & recline 45%. If you rest on your side? Put a pillow or 2 (big guys) between your legs, 1 at your stomach, 1-2 under your head (depending on how big your shoulders are). The idea is to be able to have your wife look at your spine when you are resting on your side & see a straight line from C1-2 to L5-S1. Sciatica is a symptom! Herniated IVD may cause it! Get to a doc! Good Luck!

  • @mafoota i too suffer this same pain. should i try a surgical approach?

  • @datzfast I'm NOT a medical practitioner, I'm a physical anthropologist. I can't give medical advice. All I can do is provide anecdotal advise based on my experience as a researcher and as a chronic neck pain (broken neck), back pain (14 major spinal surgeries), and sciatica sufferer. Try everything else but surgery first! Find a doctor you trust. Make sure you get the opinion of a neurologist and an orthopedic surgeon. They have VERY different perspectives and approaches! Good luck to you!

  • I recently started using Biomat...there's others mats too, they put far infrared heat on your body. It's very relaxing and I feel my health improving. But I still have some days with pain in my legs.

  • Awesome, gonna definitely try this when i can. Only 19 years old and this has already been effecting me. Thanks for the quick tip!

  • @xAMxShadow Glad I could help! Mine started at 15! Went into the Army in spite of it at 17 & have had 14 surgeries over my lifetime! The worst period from 1998-2008! Unless it is the final act & you have exhausted every other noninvasive option...& there are so many...do NOT allow them to operate! The incidence of Failed Back Surgery Syndrome is much higher than anyone in orthopaedic medicine will tell you! Good luck to you!

  • @JohnZajaros Started at 15 also, playing football. Joined the Marine Corps at 17 and its been flaring up ever since. Interesting, I think ill consider Physical Therapy over surgery. Again, thanks

  • @xAMxShadow Good luck! The service everyone is forced to do tons of sit ups. I was! But they're absolutely terrible for your lower back. Crunches are better, by far! Get to a gym & work on your core muscles (spinal, abdominal, obliques, etc). There's plenty of information online (free) on how to develop your core. Many times a muscle imbalance will also cause sciatica. Make sure you can also touch your nose to your knees (might take time). Pay attention to Hamstring/Quad strength & stretch! John

  • I am on the verge of suicide thanks to this debilitating disease...

  • @xDavJonathanx You can get help, it's available! Can't tell you how many doctor's told me there was nothing that could be done for me! Cleveland Clinic's main spine surgeon said NO! The Stefee Group said NO~same doc invented the wonderful plates crippling many! 1 of his top guns who'd moved on from Lutheran General said NO! At my wits end, weeks from death due to a massive staph infection that'd invaded my spine-osteomyelitis-Dr Henry Bohlman & Dr Sandy Emery said YES! University Hospitals-CWRU!

  • @xDavJonathanx i know what you are talking about!!! i am suffering from this and it is insane, it brings tears to my eyes, i am scared cuz i cannot work now

  • I have found I get immediate relief using a gravity chair. I'm an active cyclists and about once every year I get a sever sciatica flare up with. Two years ago I was in such excruciating pain I couldn't sleep nor find a comfortable position until I went into the back porch and sat in one of those gravity chairs you see advertised.

Within minutes the pain eased and within an hour it was almost gone so I was able to function and do chores. I can't answer for anyone else but it works for me.

  • Thank you so much! I am going to try this. I am 28 y/o and about a year and a half ago I was at a bar and a fight between sone random men broke out. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time and was pushed so hard I landed on my right knee and hip. Ever since then...the pain has gotten so bad I'm on 30/500 of co-codamol and 400mg of extra strength ibuprofen...both of Wichita I take 3x a day and it's just literally getting worse...HELP! It's to the point that I can barely sleep. :-(

  • @jenvious Hey bud how you hangin? Sciatic pain is the worst and sometimes just can drive you crazy. I experienced my pain first time this year in the summer while I was trying to learn how to stand on a surfboard. I am 26 years old and I already had my second attack of sciatica. Ive been to few doctors and seems like they all say something different, and just bombard you with drugs. Research about Dr. Sarno and try to read his book, It has helped many people with this crazy pain.

  • @jenvious Have you tried far infrared heat? look on the net there's lots of places that sell them. I've been using the Biomat.
