thees look REALY bad. NO steel to make it grip and just to flimsy. AND the price? you can get som desent chains for emergancy for 30$ here in Norway and som good one's for a LOT less then that crap. the ones for 30$is probarly all you ever gonan need IF you ever need them. with goot tiers you can go thru 4" of snow with no problems. onely if it's pure ice you need chanes ant then the rubber/plastic thing you have here is no good.
@grapsorz I think trygg is from norway. The way I see it, if you need chains the conditions are bad and when they're bad it's nice to know you've got a set of chains with you. I have two sets, one for the front which are regular chains and the back set which have 3/8" carbide lugs.
The plastic straps, version 2, are not rated for off road. Version one with the dual opposing locking pins will stand up to off road rigors and are rated by BASF down to F40 degrees below zero. Thanks again for a great post!!
Very cool. I looked at these several years ago and thought they were pretty cool to have. If we got more snow down here in the South, I would definetely have some rather than getting chains.
Where do you get those, as you know I am former Eugene resident, now in Kansas and those would be great for the snow out here. I would like to get those for my suburban. Thank for sharing these with us, now this is handy info. *****5
I'll stick to the real set of tire chains I've used for many years on my compact front wheel drive car. They're not cables and they're not rubber pads like the ones you showed. They're real chains that cost $20 at autozone. They've worked great in 6-18 inches of snow and they've never failed me. I have a full size spare tire in my trunk that always has one of the tire chains already on it. That way if I get stuck and can't move the car to put chains on I just change one or both front tires.
It just depend son the cop, I have run into nice ones who help set then up, and some who confiscate them. I also take my truck out onto the lakes in winter to go ice fishing, and that is where I use them the majority of the time.
yeah, but i think it's rare for a cop to even notice that you have chains on in the first place. If there is more than 6 inches on the road you don't even really see the chains.
yeah, i've used my chains a few times on lake winnipesaukee when I was there for an ice fishing derby and they worked great in the foot deep hard packed snow that was on top of the ice.
i would like to see how these really work. i live on mt hood and use chains every year all the time. and can put on in blizzards in the dark with a head lantern alone in under 5 min no shit. i do it so much. i live in the national forest where i make videos on survival and guns and martial arts. i do snowboard and bmx vids. i have never seen these before. i show my chains in tons of my vids. and with thin ice if feel this would be bumpier. weird.

these are shit. these don't compare to chains for $150 !! Look for TRYGG chains.
That's what we use in canada in real life situations. titansupply.ca/WearProducts/TireChains/tabid/80/Default.aspx

I'm one of those that had to learn the hard way to put on snow chains. That was the coldest my fingers had ever gotten & I had Zero dexterity.
Looks like a good product, let us know you think of the version 1

Are these any good for a two wheel drive vehicle like my minivan? Sure I'll need four of them but are they only worth having with a 4x4?
Also I've never seen any like this, I'm used to spiked chain type things, do these give you better traction with the extra treads?
Or are these just for mounting chains?
Good stuff dude, excellent information.
rooftopeagle 1 year ago
@rooftopeagle these are chain alternatives, and I would just use 2 on your drive wheels. I know they dont fit a lot of front wheel drive cars though

@Prepare2Survive
Some states do not allow metal traction aids, this just gives those of us the ability to go out and about that cannot use those like yourself

If there is 6 inches or more of snow on the road I doubt any cop would give you a ticket.
