Well, in the end it's a matter of taste but it's a ridiculous statement of course. Kaufmann does not and never will have the popularity and uniquely beautiful sound that Pavarotti had. He sounds more heroic but it's achieved in a bad way since he is manufacturing the sound, it just sounds throaty and constricted, "Knoedel" comes to mind ;) Not even Del Monaco forced his voice in a way that Kaufmann does imo. Welcome to the future of Opera, the "Terminatenor" is born :) :)

@medusaview I know and they're not even the same type of tenor. Pavarotti if I'm not mistaken was more of a Lyric Tenor. I can't quit make Kaufmann's type. He sounds like either spinto or maybe dramatic to me, but i'm not too sure.

Ich stimme Ihnen zu. Ein bisschen aehnlich singt Cura, der seine Stimme auch kuenstlich zu verdunkeln scheint. Bei Kaufmann sind es aber andere Dimensionen, die Natuerlichkeit der Stimme scheint in keinem Bereich seines Stimmumfangs zu existieren. Klingt heroisch, dramatisch, ja, aber ist das schoen, so monoton? Ich habe ihn in Rigoletto in Zuerich gehoert und war erstaunt, wie schlecht man ihn ueber das Orchester hoeren konnte, hat auf Volumen gesungen ohne strahlenden Kern in der Stimme.

Jonas Kaufmann is one of the leading Tenors in the world. I am sure thats only the beginning of a verry, verry long worldwide succes. His voice is awesome and powerful. Here is coming the next Domingo. At the moment is in this Tenor Voice-Category noone is better than Kaufmann!!! Next Year he is singing in Bayreuth and ia msure this would be another triumph for the best dramatic Tenor the world have.
