Just using an overhead filter. You can google "Dolphin Overhead Filter", it will give you a better picture on how the filter looks like.

they look like leeches put one on your finger and see if it sucks your blood

i opened my pond filter and i had tons of these in it too along with mosquito lavae - but i cand find out what they are -- maybe gnat lavae - or crane fly lavae as i've had quite a few in the house and oscar my venus fly trap loves 'em

Not blood worms I think, blood worms being larva for a fly like creature.
Probably just some sort of round worm, should be completely harmless and in fact beneficial for the pond.
