This is a lot better than I initially thought it would be, since normally a fair number of youtube m.a vids feature people with their head in the clouds. Keep up the great work!
This guy as me laughing, but only in respect! I enjoyed the way he explained things, loved the applications and just the honesty of what he spoke about. Especially the speaking about being open minded, experiencing and learning about the various things out there and how to apply your art to it. Glad I subscribed to MUSU.
Because there are so many who challenge Wing Chun, or any other martial art, the words you say may only be accurate if you keep searching for it on Youtube. The beginners end up fighting and lose face to the system and their own identity. Real Wing Chun people never want to publicize. Best example is when Yip Man (Ip Man) was challenged by a student of Dragon Boxing. Better yet, about how Wong Shun Leung fighting Western Boxers...yet there are no videos
Are somewhere on the path, students living in a cave many yrs, training all day/night, with partners, training/massage/meditation, while eating a grain of rice may attain a high level, assuming the recluse learned accurately. Some in society are very respectable, but few people have the privilege or desire to attain the highest levels and choose to live in a cave. Wonder if the Recluse can communicate what was learned so the lineage lives on. =)
as far as the Wing Chun only fighting Wing Chun...this is a problem with MANY martial arts out there. TKD vs TKD, Wing Chun vs Wing Chun, Boxing vs Boxing, etc etc etc...We ALL have to open our minds and accept one another. Ignorance kills unity
Professor watts is all so right about Wing Chun guy's not fighting nobody but WC guy's. And a lot of Martial artist are not us to getting hit in the face and experience a nose blood ect.You gotta spar all type's of fighters not just what's in your school. How else you gonna learn to deal with different situations and style's. Some WC guy's have hard time dealing with boxer's cause a boxer snap his punches out quick and retracts them back in they don't leave their hands out there for you to trap.
Lmao.. Professor Watts brought it back.. He said we was doing MMA in the PJ's on the hard concrete. And he's right. Back in the days Dudes you to shoot in to scoop you up and drop you on your head. So when that happens we use to grab you in the DDT what they call nowadays guillotine choke. DDT somebody on the concrete It's a wrap for most cats. Back then a stand up rear naked choke was called a dope fean lol. Of course nowadays it's more technical with the move's.
Prof. Watts gains my respect by recognizing that you can't truly "know" any martial art until you've experienced using it against OTHER ways of fighting. I like how he quotes Bruce Lee "no limitation as limitation". I'd love to see him spar at full-speed. I am always eager to try sparring with anyone who wants to instead of just my training partners.
Love prof Watts! He's the real deal. Thanks for sharing!
