@gibsonlespaul2 You don't seem to have got my point. The V8 wouldn't be mounted in the standard transverse position (for FWD). You would mount it longitudinally (North to South, rather than FWD's East to West), use the standard RWD transmission, find a rear diff to mount, and get a driveshaft to fit. It wouldn't need to be Redneck Rigged, as you say. The only big issue is *making* the motor mounts. You can get mounts for an SRT-4 engine swap, but you'd need to have something made for the V8.
actually the responses to it were pretty awesome. i drive an srt-4 daily and im currently rebuilding this car. its now a 2.4 swap and its either getting a gt35r or 50 trim slapped on it, full built. look for 11 second passes on slicks, street legal. :)
@scramer05 Awesome, but I've got an idea to make it better. Remount the engine longitudinally and have a RWD transmission and driveshaft made for it (it'd be really pricey, but you obviously have no problem spending thousands of dollars on the car already) and find a RWD diff to hook up to. Then you could have all the traction in the world and not sacrifice daily drivability, just put extra-wide meats on the back and regular street tires up front.
@mj20042 I heard that the jeep liberties RWD setup works, it did have a 2.4L option and as we all know the 2.0 is just a smaller displacement of the same motor
@mj20042 idk, it is a jeep, so i doubt its too wimpy, and i would think being a jeep setup it may be more torque orientated, so i don't know how that will effect drive-ability/performance, i do know its possible though, maybe do some research before you consider actually doing it. ;)
Its cool, sounds cool, but honestly a dodge neon is just a dodge neon...when people hear you coming down the street they are going to think "wow i'll bet a sweet mustang with flowmasters is about to round the corner" but then they are going to see its just a compact neon and be like wow thats gay
@Th3EminemSh0w wow, thats funny, cause all i think when i see a mustang with flowmasters is "wow, yet another doushe bag who thinks theyre badass cause they had a $200 exhaust put on, this guy builds his engine up and makes a kickass sleeper so the dick with a mustang will be awestruck when his pony car got its ass handed to him by a neon.
Nice, i almost got my neon done, 2.0dohc all internals stock with .020 overbore stock intake mani, with 3.0l tube cai K&N filter, long tuber exhaust header soon to do side dump exhaust. I like what you have done.
@roboman79 Crane cams 18 grind cam on a sohc should make it have a pretty good lope at idle and get good top end power. The SOHC can be just about as fast as the dohc to a point.
spend some good money on head studs or you'll have head gasket issues i have the same cams bored .20 port polish 2mm, mahle pistons crower rods eagle crank, lightenend flywheel ACT clutch, stage 3 axles, lengthened 1st gear extended 4th and 4:33 final and a bunch of suspension pay good money for suspension or all the power is useless i burn only half way through 1st before my dampers kick in i run 10.85in a quarter so yea
I was looking to cam my 99 r/t. But I use it daily. What kind of gas mileage do you get? I like my 35 mpg when I don't get on it too bad. Also, how much did you spend on the manifold?
What kind of specs do you want? HP and TQ numbers? Car was never dyno'd if that's what your asking. It probably made around 165 fwhp if I had to guess.
timing belt broken shotly after. motor has since been parted out. Plan on getting a wideband and an SAFC to run it all. When you mess with timing and your cams you are going to lose reliability, period.
@scramer05 Why do you think the belt broke? Stiffer valve springs? Old belt? I only ask because I am looking into a set of stage 2 Crowers for my 420A and you know as well as I do those engines are very similar. Thanks man...
@Goetia78 Make sure you upgrade your tensioner while doing the other mods. My tensioner failed. belt locked on the exhaust came somehow and the intake cam kept spinning.. Bent all the intake valves and 2 exhaust valves. Broke a cam cap off, and ate up all 4 pistons. Ugly sight..
@scramer05 WOW! I feel your pain man. The new tensioner was on my shopping list anyway since mine has approx. 150,000 miles on it. These are great engines but when they go they sure go, huh? Thanks again...
I had crane 16s in my acr and to be honest the power jump isnt huge but the mid rpm torque is nuts especially with a high flow header.. 4k rpm and up it just screams and pulls hard.... If you upgrade your cams make damn sure you upgrade the valve train.. i.e. the roller rockers, retainers, and springs.. I had several retainers break and caused the ends to snap. Now my beautiful 600 dollar 16's are scared up.. Oh and if your worried about gas mileage dont start modding your car
you said everyone goes turbo not many go supercharger on 4cyl I've never seen superchargered Neon but anyways bad ass fuckin Neon mate oh and how much have you spent on engine parts?
Indy is a waste. It's not a direct bolt-on like they make it sound. I'd rather have a custom IM than an Indy. Maybe i'll pick up an AMM intake, hmmmm.....
Due to strict local emissions I can't run a long tube. It has a pacesetter for now. A buddy is mocking up a custom built one on his neon and if all works out i'll be running one too. It's a 2.0 with the 2.4 VC, just to keep the haters guessing...
what can of an exhaust ?
DMSEAGLETALON 3 weeks ago
That car sounds so RAW for a little ol neon... Good job. Exhaust?

If you can add in a symbol, it kinda sounds like the beginning to hot for teacher.
Sounds awesome, got any numbers for it?
I had a friend with an all motor single cam with 12:1 pistons and all kinds of goodies. It idled at 9 inches of vacuum.

shupster369 1 year ago
@shupster369 It can be reasonably done - a 318 and a 360 will both fit in the standard engine bay, albeit without any of the accessories like A/C.
mj20042 10 months ago
@mj20042 You will NEVER get a 318 or a 360 to Bolt up to the Tranny, And the Mounts would be so Redneck Rigged it's pathetic.
