Actually you spelled it the way most people do (I sometimes see it spell "bishounen" but that's about it). I don't know that there's really a "correct" spelling.

Literally translated it just means "handsome," but a better translation would probably be "pretty boy." It refers to male characters who are attractive in an androgynous way-- you see them in anime all the time. Hojo actually isn't all THAT bishonen compared to a lot of characters, but he IS a male model.
