To me, British movies were always more advanced or daring than American movies. They showcased certain social stigmas like "Taste of Honey" "Boy With Two Left Shoes" "The L-Shaped Room" and many more. As a teen, I really couldn't understand this movie but as an adult I find it is well-acted and significant. Mr. Bogarde's best movie however was "The Servant". Wish that was on the Tube. But thanks for this. Peace.
@9876543217303 Not true about Yank films - witness On the Waterfront, and a film I saw a couple a months ago (can't remember the name) about two schoolmistresses, living in the same house, accused by a pupil of being lesbians. Oh there are no end of American "social" films.
QUERRY: in the Bogarde introduction that comes with all DVDs of this film, ORIGINALLY, Bogarde said something like:: I was working on (some film in the late '40s), and a cameraman said to me: I've been watching you. You don't know the first thing about acting! He then goes on to list several proficiencies Bogarde is lacking in, voice projection etc.. it was neat the Bogarde brought it up in the interview. tt isn't in the new DVDs! Neither English or American...
Who's playing Jack's friend? Guy can't act worth a shit.

I think the phrase "spare time job" dates the film.
The music at beginning is also quite nice.

This is one of my favorite films, but the way it portrays women does irk me a little at times, as it unfortunately tends to in gay media.
Typical feminine logic, I guess.

Brave film, and courageous actors who appeared in it at the time.
