Sorry, I do not catch the luhya language. But this is dancers from the Tiriki clan dancing on the lawn outside the forest station in Kakamega Rain forest. Arranged for my camera by KEEP
I 'm a tiriki from senende who went through this ritual. Though it may not me close to tha real thing nevertheless it reminds me of home. I look forward to taking my son to participate in it and learn his tradition
This is fake, not real. The soloist is not chanting well. The masked people are too old.The crowd should not be seated they should be dancin with the masked people. They usually dont allow people to document this.Their setting is not on a field so this is all wrong, they acted this
If you read the information text to the right of the picture you get the true facts about the dance. The dancers are my friends, local youths from Kakamega Rainforest. Nobody says it is an inauguration. But it is an inauguration dance. That is quite a difference. They asked me to record this.
Sorry if i offended you but im just stating facts through experience. What im saying is true, you should consider that maybe they put on a show for you cause this is not how we do it.
Of course everything is a show, specially in your country, the US. People around this rainforest live in a modern world and are good christians or muslims. But this is a part of the Luhya cultural heritage. The dance is different in every clan and every village. At 18 living in the US you have probably not much personal experiences of Tirriki inaugerations.
Akhayundi shikhacherera lisoko! Follow that advice and you will be a great man.
WOW! I didn't know all that! I need to visit Africa! I know we come from Africa! What you say sounds very reasonable, more than what the so-called scientists say who try to twist our history, leaving so many unanswered questions, but with what you said, it seems all the puzzle pieces are fitting together perfectly and crystal clear, where can I find this info?
You are right about the canoes. Trade went all way from China to Pemba on kenyan coast. But this is 800 km inland on the other side of the savannahs and Mount Kenya in forest highlands. Near where Nile and Congo River begin. Much influences from west and north. Crossroad for bantu nilosaharian but also afroasiatic languages. Forest people from beginning were not traders or farmers but collectors and hunters. But same equatorial forests in Indonesia. Been there! Perhaps reason? erik
Okay these people MUST be related to dances of the south pacific islands. There are dances very similar to this in Vanuatu on Islands like TANNA and also in Papua New guinea.
Thank you for sharing the original dance with me. It gives some perspective.
