@Phozz4 that doesn't work against beam-riding missiles, only designator-type rounds.
El-op works if the missile is targeting the aircraft or a marker on the aircraft. It'd be like if, rather than watching you and following you as you try to hide (laser designation), I'm looking backwards and somebody is pointing which way to go, and I'm just following his directions (beam riding).
This weapon sucks so bad. The launcher needs to keep track of the target for the missle to hit, it's heavy as hell, requires much mantling to shoot. Come on America, I know you got better stuff
Its main flaw is that it is not fire and forget or as portable as the latest versions of the stinger, sa-14 or starstreak. Beamriding is old tech and is impervious to most forms of countermeasures. But you also have to keep an eye on the target; which leaves the operator vulnerable. Nice....not worth the price.
The problem I see with this system is the operator. It all depends on whether or not he/she can keep the target within the crosshairs. Imagine trying to keep crosshairs on a fast-moving jet.
by time when you will set it up the enemy heli will make you look like cheese from Poland... BDW if i had this baby id upgrade it soo it cal lock on birds, or my mean neighborn...
I only see one problem, this system puts enormous pressure on the operator to have steady aim and actually hit the target and how in the world could this actually hit a oncoming cruise missile?
@stevewestingale well this is only a small area defence it has the capability to do cruise missiles though and yes there is allot of training to use it.
@Futschigama a few countrys have put these on ships and in stationary positons so its perfect for that role, and its easily trasported by a car or something simular.
how could it get only 1 in mobility? Compare that to an Anti Aircraft battery or a anti-aircraft panzer like the tonguska it's extremely mobile. It is easily carried in a 3 man group just like a regular mortar. It could be transported by foot to the top of buildings and mountains, it could be transported by car, truck or helicopter. HOW is that not mobile?
@wellerocks i suppose it wouldnt be very portable when compared to Stinger missiles because that only takes one guy but youre right in regards to the aa battery or anti aircraft tanks
Wars are nesscary trumph cards and the enimes are going to be the future of future wars when you die in the grave so wars are still going to be around for a very very long time till no humanity is left on earth.

@Phozz4 yep. same also as the Russian antitank missiles they shoot out of gun barrels.

So this is laser guided, the person has to keep the "crosshairs" on the target?

@13bullitz
Yes, but your enemy can't jam it.
Wiromax3 5 months ago
@13bullitz With the latest RBS 90 version, the system can be automated. A IIR camera looks to the target and teh laser is slaved to that camera.
