uplifter is way too slow besides this and indian ink there new slow songs just don't grow on you as the old ones did and this was for sure a letdown more than don't tread on me. Universal pulse is all good except like one song, but it is way too short there better be a B side to it. In all respects i like all there albums but dislike this one. Only 2 of their songs on here were good where as I can listen to every song on every album, just not dont tread on me or uplifter.

@Sever actually the average person doesnt even pay attention to lyrics. only the beat and the hook. 311 is good. they were better in the pre-soundsystem era. now they have a new set of fans that unfortunately dig pop rock music as well. 311's style and sound has changed in a whole. They went from improvisational masterpieces and eclectic lyrics to this. A band that is now tied down to corporate cookiecutters. i wouldnt say they sold out, but now they have lost most of their old hardcore fans.

@randyc420 - i would have to agree with you on that one, man. however, i'd say about 80% of 311 fans live and breathe 311 - they've got the most hardcore, dedicated fans out there. so to say they've lost "most" of their old hardcore fans is a bit much. they've lost "some." and even at that - they never lose those fans completely. i still love em.. but i really only ever find myself listening to transistor and prior.

If a song is overproduced and there is no 'umph' that your used to from such a great band, I'm sorry they just arent the same band that they used to. True they have evolved and improved in ways. but it went from having 95% of songs on an album to being insanely great to 1-2 songs and the rest being mediocre. Something changed. I think they decided to switch to main streak pop-rock

For example, when I first got turned onto 311, I spent a good half hour just pondering the meanings of the songs on Soundsystem, Large in the Margin and Flowing in particular. While uplifter is a big step in the right direction as compared to DTOM, it's still far from what 311 used to/can be. If you try to justify tracks like "hey you" then you r not a fan but a mindless follower (which is exactly what their earlier/best music speaks against). Lead.

What I like about this album is that it doesn't feel like 311 was trying to use Uplifter to just sell a bunch of records or like they were taking themselves too seriously.. Instead it feels like they were just having fun and making music. Uplifter is the kind of album you listen to when you want to have a laid back, enjoyable time. I love it.
