Hypnodisc was the better made robot, for sure. And yes it could be argued that its unfair that Tornado can change weapons...but really its impressive to build a robot that is that easy to change, so I say game on. Tornado won this match because they simply out-drove Hypnodisc. Its hard to attack Hypnodisc, you have to constantly follow its backside, which is hard to do, but they did it. Hypnodisc is still my favourite robot tho :D
Hypnodisc was the most well made robot in the history of robot wars, it was one of the most destructive as well. it's only downfall of being the greatest of all time in the ultimate final was not having that large clearance fixed allowing it to be fixed. Other than that 9/10 it tore robots to shreds
In my opinion, it's not fair that creators can mount on their robots new weapons before the match. Tornado's team always mounted something to let it be invulnerable to the opponent...
It's not the fact that Hypno-Disc's flywheel was slower, in fact it was the same as series 5 at 900rpm. However a combination of smaller teeth on the disc and better armed opposition caused Hypno-Disc to fall behind.
my favourite robot hypnodisc i grew up hearing the werh of that disc and it started to break down in series 5 what happened to the good old days when it shredded v-max and splinter...
Hypno-disc is a well built machine... it has to be to try and withstand the power of it's own weapon. Hypno-disc has become such a model for following robots around the world... but against Tornado they used all the wrong tactics, they needed to get good attacks on the side of the scoop and Tornado was always going to try and push hypno-disc... hypno-disc should have been more evasive from the start, still in this series the disc seemed slightly less powerful then previously anyway...
@Falloutman216 erm, 900 RPM is the fastest hypno-discs flywheel ever really got... hypno-disc wasn't destructive because of RPM but because of the sheer size of the disc and placement of weight. The larger a flywheel is the more energy it is able to store and biasing the outer edge also increases stored kinetic energy... in other words the sheer size of the disc was more important then the RPM to it's destructive nature... also the larger the disc, the faster/further the outer rim/edge moves.
@Falloutman216 nope, when Hypno-disc started in Series 3 it was only 750 RPM, however since their were lower weight limits as well as other things, there was not too many heavily armored machines... other machines have had flywheels between 1500 up to 4000 RPM, but as these discs were often smaller and either around the same weight or lighter, they were only hitting with either the same or less force then hypno-disc.
@wolfernater not true, against Pussy Cat the disc was still moving and against Choas 2 the Disc still worked but they had to turn off their drive motors to spin the disc up.
Oh also, JP is a really gash commentator. 'Poor driving by tornado there'?!?! Well it quite patently wasn't, since it avoided going in the pit - I'd have to call that rather good driving, actually.
HAHA! I love watching HD get pwnt. It's often lauded for its 'destructive power' but in reality it only ever did a lot of damage to robots that were pretty bockety anyway. Any time HD came up against any reasonably solid opposition, it almost invariably lost.
@MrSTAlc Hypno Disc wasn't out of date, as, like Razer, they made upgrades, if you noticed, this Hypno Disc's body is abit taller than the old as the old was slimmer and a tad flat. But they had issues as to probably not the totally proper adjustments were made. That or they easily have power failures like Razer sometimes malfunctions. The only bot that was truly out classed was Chaos 2.
@skaterboy8090 Yep! I too once liked Tornado but later disliked what occurred: The tornado team were allowed to weld a large square steel barrier to the perimeter of their robot such that when they fought with Razer, the steel barrier (wider than the descending pit), prevented Razer from downing them into the pit & hence they were awarded the victory for that! It was just too stupid to behold!
that secret weapon that tornado said that they were going to bring out of the truck, was in fact an antispinner weapon, however it was scrapped due to it being an defensive weapon, in the rules that changed afterwards, all robots had to have an offensive weapon, unlucky for tornado..
That Tornado is amazingly durable, no fear of that disc whatsoever. Imagine if you told the Rose Boys in 1999 that 3 years later, they'd be defeated by a robot whose main tactic whose main tactic is to run straight into them.
It wasn't just their durability. It was also the fact that Hypno-Disc changed the teeth on the disc to ones that weren't as powerful as in the 4th and 5th Wars. Which was a shame 'cause I was excited to watch Hypno-Disc cleave into Tornado. Even the Tornado guys themselves thought they were gonna end up in a bin.
Exactly'; it just didn't do as much damage during the 6th wars, which was a shame. If they kept the disc teeth like in series 5 it probably would have fared a lot better.
So it was just sheer dumb luck with Tornado. I never liked Tornado and wanted it to be split apart by the disc but because of that little mistake, it didn't happen. Tornado's victory here was NOT due to it being a better machine.

The music used in the intro is from Series 5. There is a slight difference of the theme tunes for Series 5 and 6.

Tornado showed that strategy not fancy weapons can equal good results. That frame vs Razer was genius

Shame that the first time HD failed to reach a Grand Final was to a boring machine like Tonado Storm 2 much more entertaining
Yet Mentorn like Tornado more. While battling Storm 2, They actally raised the pit back up when Tornado went in!

Hypnodisc was outdated and cannot get to its full spinning speed quickly enough. It caused no damage to tornado at all. very easy fight for tornado.
