used to watch them on the MM club, then in the Surf Movies, and the Skippy P butter commercials, always a Hottie......hope She`s doing OK since the Fire at her Home.
@Hunterunc Never though about that but you're absolutely right. Hollywood's most prominent surf-stars were two Italian kids from the East, proving that surf music (and culture) is for EVERYONE!
Great set of photo's in this video!! I'm 52 now & Annette (back in the 1960's) was very cute (wow, what a hottie!!) still rings my bell. I had a big crush on her when I was a teenager in the mid 1970's.....
@isartam Considering that the Beach Blanket movies were filmed in the middle of winter so that the studio did not have to fight the beach crowds they had to worry more about windchill than sunburn.
What a hotty Always felt that way about her. That face, that voice, that body! There was nothing about her that I didn't admire about her. When she was 25 I was 15. Seeing the photos make me shudder.
That was a big part of her talent--she came by it SO naturally, the classiness that she exuded on-screen was so apparent in all of her public appearances. Neither spoiled nor a prima dona... and achingly beautiful as well! It's a pure tragedy that her life had to go in the direction that her MS had forced her to. Of all the teen queens that I've ever seen, hers was simply the down-to-earth gorgeous girl-next-door. Thanks for the great post!
I'm not from the era she was a current Hollywood star, but I think she was cool in Zorro, Merlin Jones, & other things she stared/worked in/on. All the tabloids should be ashamed for posting a picture of her on the cover/title page, w/ some story that's more than likely outlandish, & probably untrue. Hotsheets are glorified toilet paper.
Fun fact: she sang The Monkey's Uncle, & The Misadventures of Merlin Jones themes, the former w/ The Beach Boys, who were still under the name the Pendletons.
Met her at Chicago Airport , 1966. Both waiting for rides West. I was in Uniform and about to head to Viet Nam. She started the Conversation. She is so sweeet and it made my Year!
You are one lucky soldier.... knowing that you are fighting for freedom - her's too - must have made your trip to Nam somewhat worth while. Glad you made it home to tell about your short visit to paradise before literally going to hell.
Annette and Sandra (Dr Pepper Girl) both were not not allowed to show their bellybutton like the other girls. Back then, good girls did not wear bikinis, eventually they made trainer two piece swim suits called hip huggers for the more wholesome girls to look "in" without too much "in". A bit of belly button showed.. like belly button cleavage.
Who's Sandra? Donna Loren was the Dr. Pepper Girl in the 1960s. Nice version by Annette of the Jan and Dean 1964 hit (derived from the film of the same name).
This version is simply perfect.

I have always loved Annette.
Her music, movies and looks were good, nice and clean and made millions dream of a Southern California way of life.
Those were the days when living was innocent, good, carefree and trouble free.
I wish I could go back in time.

@Hunterunc You're right - they're the first ones you think of, but they weren't even from California...... more power to Annette and Frankie.

She was a package of talent, not like the sluts you see in show business these days.

Didn't know she did this GREAT version of the song. Much more exciting than the soundtrack (Jan & Dean?) version.
Was this from her "Great Surfin' Hits" LP?"
THANKS MUCH for posting this -
