Coming from someone who people think is insane/weird (not to the same extent, though)- he's just screwing around because it's funny as hell to fuck with people. Of course there are people who are legitimately insane, but he's able to act normal when the situations call for it so it's pretty clear he's eccentric but just screwing around because it's funny. Also, interviews always fuck with words and cut stuff out to change the context.
