  • Geoff Castle is in good form here, playing and directing the band. Is that a saxello (soprano sax variant) which Tim Whitehead is playing? The late great Elton Dean played one of these - maybe it's the same one?! Mark Wood on guitar still looks like one of the Ramones (and why not!) And Tim Batchelor is an able stand-in for Ian Carr. I've searched this out following Carr's death - a sad loss to jazz. I couldn't find any live footage of Carr himself.

  • When I was living in New Zealand I used to play with the ex drummer of this group by the name of Roger Sellers. He's sticking to playing Jazz now instead of Fusion but he's a very nice man and a mentor to me.

  • I thought Chris spedding, Karl Jenkins, and John marshall were in this band along with Ian Carr?

  • this band has gone through a TON of change ups, Chris, Karl, and John played in Nucleus during the early 70s but not since. Both Karl and John left and joined Soft Machine.

  • Do you have anything that Allan Holdsworth played on?

  • Sorry no - this was filmed in March 2007 - AH worked with Nucleus in the 1970s but not since then - I'd love to hear that stuff too!

  • I recomend, who likes this, to seek up czech vinyls with band JAZZ Q PRAHA (specialists on moogs , played by M.Kratochvil which studyed Berklee) and slovak band Fermata ( great guitars and keys)

  • jajajajaja bkn exelent song of nucleus

    iaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnn carrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr yeah

  • these guys are cool, but who are they ?

Surely not Nucleus's members; i didn't recognize anyone.

  • This is the last original line up of the band - Chris Batchelor on trumpet filling in for Ian Carr, Geoff Castle is on keys (he has been with the band for more than 20 years) and Tim Whitehead on sax is a fairly longtime member too - not sure how long the other guys have been in the band - but it is the last lineup that Carr himself led.

  • well, i know Geoff Castle but i didn't recognize him;Tim Whitehead: u say he's a longtime member...has he appeared on some cd ?

i remember Jenkins, Coe, Smith, Bertless, Robertson, but this one i don't know.

    Cheers

    Max

  • The guitarist is Mark Wood, who was a member of Nucleus fpr many years (mainly playing in the line-up with Phil Todd, Dill Katz and John Marshall) and was also in the excellent Sunwind with Dave Defries, Chicho Merchan and Nic France . . . Mark also made a great album with John Marshall and Theo Travis as Marshall Travis Wood, Bodywork.

  • This is just fantastic and proves what a truly great band Nucleus are and just how good Ian Carr's compoitions are too. By the way the correct title of this tune is 'Mutatis Mutandis' but no matter, still great to see this here. Thanks Jazzwise.

  • No worries Roger - I'll change the title! Glad you are enjoying the music - Ian's a friend and a truly great guy - he's not very well at the moment but he's OK, I'll pass on your positive vibes...

  • This is awesome stuff! Post some old footage if you can

  • Yeah...great stuff. I remember these guys when I was just a little guy. I think it had Brian Smith as the sax man. Thanks for posting this. More of nuleus please.
