I respect your opinion on MLK but I feel it takes a lot of courage to be in Malcolm X's position also. It takes that same courage to fight back when No one else is fighting back and taking a stand against the whites oppressing you.
@oneindachamber I agree. I just don't see how the courage of both men are diametrically opposed to one another. I wasn't making a comparison or saying MLK had courage and Malcolm X didn't.
On the "turn the other cheek" convo. I wouldn't put myself anywhere near my male opressor becuase if he hit me I'd wanna hit back and I can't beat up no grown ass man. So what I would do is stand by the pink toe'd skally wags and if one of them spat or raised a hand at me, they'd catch one comin' round the corner. I'm just sayin.
In my opinion the mother was right to have him stand his wanna be thug ass out on the corner with that sign. I originally from Bklyn and I live in Indianapolis. Crime in indiana period with our youth is ridiculous. I know a lot of parents who beat the hell outta their kids to no avail. They take them to church, to no avail. Now he's on blast, I bet nobody buys from him now. There is no unity out there, black folks just wanna get over and live like the Joneses. Just my humble opinion.
I love the video. I agree that humiliation is not a good way to raise a child. The young man is a teen and I feel the best way to reach him now is to be under the wing of a strong male role model to give him direction to go on the right path.
there should be a follow up to see if her tactic worked, i know its out of love and fear of losing her child she had to go to this extreme, but like yall said an earlier correction maybe would have worked to not let it get this far, but as we all know many blk parents have talked, led straight & narrow lives, but still have children that will do the oppisite, showing that its now always your examples that guide them, peer pressure & low self esteem & so many factors that daily beat our ppl down
She didnt go too far, she went in the wrong direction, I believe black ppl beating their kids is just another symtom of post slave syndrone, just as much as we constantly point out the bad/wrong or incorrect things our children do, i bet most of us dont do half as much to show them the appreicate what they do positive, it amazing what children will do when given responsibility to be in charge and or head a project with an end goal. they will take pride in being independent and decisive
I think what she did was extreme but at the same time if this was the only weapon left in the arsenal then I think she has to use whats left. I agree she should have started early on but not knowing the details of her life how can I judge? Having a male presence in the boys life could have produced different results but what are her options now? Let go and see what happens or at least make an attempt to try and divert him in another way? I applaud the attempt and wished she'd did better sooner.
I can turn the other cheek just as long as no one put their hands on me. Words are words...nasty and hurtful as the can be, they do not make me. BUT if someone get bold enough to put there hands on me, then I'll return the favor.
Forcing her son to wear a placard won't achieve anything, she should have put the fear of god in him a LONG time ago. The only result here is humiliation and publicly announcing that you don't have the ability to raise your child properly.
You are right Holips. Beating your kids and trying to discipline at 14 it's too late. The formative years have been over at that point. the problem is we have so many irresponsible negroes having kids when they are not ready, and they only start being a parent when the child is completely out of hand.
exactly..her fat nasty ass dropped the ball a long time ago..its obviously no father in the picture to stop her from doing what she did to that boy...the sign shouldve read "im too fat and lazy to raise my son and keep him out of trouble"
@DirtyMoney410 black women do treat their children bad more so than their caucasian counterpart that go to the other extreme! we need to find the balance somewhere!

This whole "single black mother" experiment we've been having in the African american community has been an epic failure.
