Hello everyone I am doing a prize draw and whoever is the 100th subscriber will win a prize and whoever else subscribes will be entered into a prize draw thanks!
@stilldreamyn Well I went ahead and got one. And the battery life isn't ideal, but if you manage your usage and know when you need to bring a charger with you, but if you need a phone that can last you 5+hours of continual use. Maybe try a different phone.
I got one last September and I Love it like no other... Best phone I've ever had, I dunno if I would ever want any other phone (unless Samsung comes up with a better one.. LOL)
Excellent review, I saw it on your site. But, I have to say, judging from the pics you posted, I like the Captivate picture quality over the iPhone4. The iPhone4 looks really grainy.
i just got my (Rogers) Captivate and one thing I notice is that so many of the apps available in the Market are in Korean, or have Korean characters in them! I know the phone was made in Korea, but this is really ridiculous. Anyone else see this, and if so, is there a way to fix it?
oh and im about to buy a iPhone 4 so i can hit you in the face with it since you seem to love it so much... iPhones are over done. I HAD one and if they come out with a iPhone that is truly the best then ill get another one but the iPhone 4 is a epic fail.... i hope that the next one isn't as crappy as the iFail 4s.
Yo thumb be freakin' at 2:08 but 4:40 was hilarious with that dude dry humping the junk in the woods. "Harleys trying to sound cool" takes the cake, though. Bunch of assholes pretending to be "bikers" if you ask me.
I just got say that i am sick of these iphone fan boys doing reviews on different phones as far as the captivate being an iphone killer the fact that the captivate supports flash and the iphone doesn't to me makes the captivate a iphone killer.
I liked this review but it doesn't sound good how you just compare everything to the iPhone. You should maybe make a comparison at the end but it was a bit over the top in this video.
I think its a good thing. The Galaxy S has created soo many revolutions like in the GPU and Display, and Apple is, under pressure from competition, going to improve aswell
Can you please do a review comparing the Samsung Captivate, the Blackberry Torch, and the iPhone 4? I am an AT&T customer and these seem to be the best phones that they are offering now. I'd really like to know what the difference between the three are, the pros and the cons. Thanks so much, I'd really appreciate it!
@MrAj577 agreed. however the samsung captivate is better than the droid X (:
And no, i'm not just saying that, it's benchmarking better than the EVO, Droid X, Droid Incredible, and Nexus One. The Nexus One beat it in some sort of other test they did aside from the graphics test, however that's because the Nexus One had 2.2 and every other one had 2.1 (:
You might want to rename the video "Samsung Captivate Vs iPhone4" or something, because every other sentence, you end up comparing the two. Just wait until the Captivate gets its 2.2 upgrade. ALL Galaxy S phones will blow everything else out of the water.
So in other words It seems you are saying the iphone4's hardware is a little better in general, and it all comes down to which software you prefer. ps Lolz @iphone lifestyle.
I don't care about the camera/video quality. If I'm going to take pictures, I will make sure it's with a DSLR like my Canon Rebel, not a phone that is supposed to function as a phone.
Wait, what happened to the days were a phone was a phone...not a mini PC wannabe.
Anyways, yes this phone has what I want in a smartphone.
@blink182ska when you combine the technological revolution that we are under and the constant capitalist mentality that north america functions and thrives upon, u have the answer to ur question (ex. why not make more money of off phones by putting crap people don't really need in there, charging more money, and then shoveling all that new crap down their throats by smoothly integrating it everywhere around them so they feel that they do)we live in a sad world, lupe fiascos lyrics teach me that
Swanky enclosure, lol. I love my Captivate and I came from a 4, but I don't know, everytime I think about the fact that I returned my iPhone 4 for this, I get cold sweats and have a panic attack. Trust me, this Samsung has been amazing to me, fantastic, but it lacks front facing camera and flash. And yes, I never cared for that when I had my 3gs, but I'm going all in with AT&T, I want their best device, and as hard as it is to admit, the iPhone 4 is the best device they have.
Two questions: Another video review showed a front facing camera for this as well as a three keypad options for texting one of which included the speech to text microphone option. Can you clarify i this is accurate. Thanks.
Dang, this actually looks like a contender, I'm very dissapointed about the camera's faults but even so hot half bad for the most advanced (opinion) Android phone on the market right now.
I just returned my iPhone 4 and got the Captivate this morning (launch). I've never been more satisifed with a phone device in my life. This thing is beautiful, it runs amazingly smooth, has no bugs thus far (knock on wood, hope the "forceclosing" doesn't become an issue) and is just flat out a monster in every sense of the word. I liked the iPhone, I just had major issues with dropped calls and reception, and the proximoty sensor bug was annoying as hell. I recommend the Samsung to anyone.
@infosyncvideos oh snap sorry i for talking so much crap. didnt think you would even notice. lol but ya im going to check them both out. but at 350 off contract. there is no way im buying a iphone for 600 bucks. the captivate is half the price. and when you factor that in its a no brainer. the captivate is better. who wants a phone that requires a case to be usable? its made out of friggin glass. if you drop it your seriously S.O.L. in terms of design i prefer the captivate. 4 > 3.5 inch.
there are some real noobs on here. and why the hell does it matter if i can see pixels i have a Samsung T240 HD (1920 x 1200) "thats higher than 1080p" monitor and i can see pixels if i get really close. thats so f-ing stupid. im tired of hearing this crap. the contrast is better the color is better the viewing angle is better the the efficiency is better. How could a regular lcd compare?? IT CANT. It has faster gpu and faster contrast = better gaming. Galaxy S melted jobs face. lol
@ilovemaryam08 Actually, Android 2.2 will be a key as far as the Captivate's gaming experience is concerned. Ideally, the Captivate would have launched with 2.2, but that's mobile life.
@infosyncvideos, considering that there is already the original Galaxy S launched internationally. and that 7 carriers(including the major 4....sprint, tmobile, att, verison) alone in the US are getting version of the Galaxy S Andy 2.2 is already in development at Samsung. Not to mention the the Xda will have stock froyo running in a mater of days. There will be many flavors of froyo to be had. :)
Just wait the for Sprint's Samsung Epic 4G! It's going to kill the iPhone with it's camera flash and front facing camera. BTW there is pinch to zoom on the Galaxy S.
so it's basically a Apple iPhone 4 clone, what's new? get the iPhone 4 it comes in white at the end of the month. How can the Craptivate be better form movies when it's lower resolution? lol give me a break dude.
Andrudge OS is a clusterfuck clone of superior iOS 4. I'd rather stab myself in eyes with a rusty nail that use that interface.
@flarbton Actually, when it comes to the iPhone 4's screen experience, it comes down to pixels per inch. Steve Jobs himself made that perfectly clear when he unveiled it.
@flarbton Because you're an idiot iRobot who is part of their illuminati state brainwashed like the propaganda feeding tool that you are. You're nothing but that bear in the iPhone vs. Evo video, you need to open your eyes and broaden your horizons. I had an iPhone 4 and had so many issues with it, that I couldn't help but return it this morning for the Captivate. I've been an iPhone and Android user for years, but the Captivate is by far the best phone I've ever had. Stop being close minded.
The captivate has better colors and contrast ratio. That is why it is better then the IPhone 4 video viewing. Also, i am currently dual booting IOS 4 and Android OS on my iphone. Android is faster, more stable, and to be quite honest, better looking. I also noticed that Android does a better job of using the memory. I did a speed test comparing it to a 3GS, (mine is a 3G). Normaly, the 3GS would win by a landslide, but Android came out ahead by a few seconds. I used to...
be an iphone fanboy. I thought that nothing could compare to it and i felt that the others were clones. But then i looked at it from a new perspective and now i realize, the iphone was like the Wright Brothers air plane. It changed everything, but is not the best plane today. The way I see it, Apple upgrading the iphone would be like the Wright Brothers switching to stronger wood. Apple needs to make a whole new phone, not an upgrade. This is just my opinion.
@SoundwaveAknowledges On June 20, we said in a story that the Captivate would go head to head with the iPhone 4 this summer. We probably didn't have any other choice than to check them out head to head when we got the chance.
@JoeWhiteFilms Yeah, we have a review of the iPhone 4 coming up. Apple's iPhone 4 press conference on Friday will probably give a few clues about what will be done about the antenna issue, so right now, it looks like we'll post on Saturday at the earliest.
Why no led flash? Why no front facing camera? Why the power/lock button on the side? Scratching my head on this one.BTW what's up with the lag all the Samsung galaxy s phone experience including the Captivate? It's it that hard Samsung?
According to the Samsung Galaxy S manual you can pinch to zoom. (Don't know why it would be any different for the Captivate)
From the Manual: * To view more photos, scroll left or right. * To zoom in or out, select - or +. ******You can also tap the screen with two fingers and spread them apart (move your fingers closer together to zoom out). * To start a slideshow images in the selected folder, select Slideshow. Tap the screen to stop the slideshow.
@baldilocks73 That's correct, you can pinch to zoom in gallery mode. We were having issues with pinch to zoom in gallery, but have finally gotten it to work. It's the only area outside of browsing that allows you to do so. Thanks for the info!
This was without a doubt a superb review. I was able to pay attention, and it wasn't boring at all. The guy in the video (mike perlman) had good insight and showed off some nice features. the only thing that bothered me was him saying the phone was not better than the iphone. lol such a kidder.
That was a great review and all, but I kind of sense you have a biased towards iPhone. Yes the iPhone has a great camera and a front facing camera, but there have been numerous tests that show the captivate has a much faster browser, so you're right, it isn't Safari, it is better and faster. This has a better camera, gets more bars than the iPhone (especially if you have the deathgrip issue) and this has a better battery.
@SurfinQ00 Ironically, Samsung's bada browser beats the Android 2.1 browser in technical tests. Anyway, as far as the iPhone browser is concerned, the new iPhone 4 screen plays a role in its overall browsing experience. That said, keep in mind that the Android 2.2 upgrade, as noted in our review, will further improve the Captivate browser. That's one of the key upgrades in 2.2.
@kashc2 Yeah, Samsung and AT&T have committed to offer an Android 2.2 upgrade. Stock Android 2.2 was just recently pushed to the Nexus One, so it'll take some time to get TouchWIZ atop Android 2.2 pushed out, but it'll come.
@tarunrad In other words, we look forward to check out MeeGo smartphones with Super AMOLED screens whenever Samsung plans on offering the latter to Nokia :)
@uhmump95 Please look closely at the images. Did you read the review? In optimal lighting, the Captivate's camera is excellent, but look at the difference in low light. I am not an iPhone homer, but the iPhone is very hard to beat. We are one of the most unbiased review sites online. The truth is what we uncover, so if you think we're siding with Apple, you'd have to reconsider your position. There's nothing beneficial in being an Apple cheerleader--Jobs could care less what we said.
@infosyncvideos I looked at the review and I looked at the pics. The low light pics IMO were about even. In fact the night shot from the Captivate was excellent compared to the crappy night shot photo from the iPhone 4. On the pics of the flowers, the iPhone 4's pics looked over saturated again this is my opinion. I am no iPhone hater. My wife got an iPhone 3GS and I probably played with it more then the kids. I just think some statements such as "Apple lifestyle" shows a bias.
@uhmump95 I've been reviewing in the digital imaging field for years and grew up around cameras. All images were assessed on a high-definition monitor at full resolution using a color-corrected display. But if the Captivate's images look better to you, then that's the way the cookie crumbles.
The "Apple Lifestyle" comment, is more of a knock at Apple if anything. Apple is like an exclusive club with a plethora of proprietary junk needed to make its stuff work. Come on man, don't start this.
@infosyncvideos I am not starting anything. I was just stating my opinion. I consider this healthy banter not an argument or attempting to bust your balls.
@uhmump95 The Captivate is a great phone that scores 85% overall. It's packed with cutting-edge technology and it'll only get better when it receives an upgrade to Android 2.2. There's no doubt that AT&T has delivered on the promise of delivering a great choice to the iPhone. So if you're in the market for a new smartphone, check it out in stores on July 18.

@infosyncvideos Maps allows you to pinch and zoom as well. I'm using it as we speak =)

Samsungs best is probably the EPIC 4G not the captivate. EPIC has front facing camera, keyboard and 4G.
beerthax 1 year ago
@beerthax Sprint has 4G is very very very very very few places across the country. It also has a slide out keyboard which just ruins the phone.
Sprint would be useless to me and millions of others.
baldilocks73 1 year ago
will the captivate be able to upgrade to android 2.2 "froyo"?
kashc2 1 year ago
@kashc2 Yeah, Samsung and AT&T have committed to offer an Android 2.2 upgrade. Stock Android 2.2 was just recently pushed to the Nexus One, so it'll take some time to get TouchWIZ atop Android 2.2 pushed out, but it'll come.

The display comparison is a lot more complicated than infosynch made it sound
Pixels are good and all, but for pictures and video it's really doesnt matter that much unless you move your eyes to uncomfortable levels
for text the retina display has no equal
but for images and especially animations/fast motion video you can't beat the super AMOLED screen !
I mean just look at the black on the captivate it's the same color as the black bezel around it Lcds just can't match that !
tarunrad 1 year ago
@tarunrad In other words, we look forward to check out MeeGo smartphones with Super AMOLED screens whenever Samsung plans on offering the latter to Nokia :)

@infosyncvideos i read a post that Samsung wont offer the sAMOLED to other companies til 2012

I just think some statements such as "Apple lifestyle" shows a bias.
uhmump95 1 year ago
@uhmump95 I've been reviewing in the digital imaging field for years and grew up around cameras. All images were assessed on a high-definition monitor at full resolution using a color-corrected display. But if the Captivate's images look better to you, then that's the way the cookie crumbles.
The "Apple Lifestyle" comment, is more of a knock at Apple if anything. Apple is like an exclusive club with a plethora of proprietary junk needed to make its stuff work. Come on man, don't start this.
infosyncvideos 1 year ago
@infosyncvideos I am not starting anything. I was just stating my opinion. I consider this healthy banter not an argument or attempting to bust your balls.
uhmump95 1 year ago 2
@uhmump95 The Captivate is a great phone that scores 85% overall. It's packed with cutting-edge technology and it'll only get better when it receives an upgrade to Android 2.2. There's no doubt that AT&T has delivered on the promise of delivering a great choice to the iPhone. So if you're in the market for a new smartphone, check it out in stores on July 18.
