  • the two people who disliked this don't know what truly sensational theater is..

  • I have suddenly become addicted to this musical and, most importantly, Alice Ripley... What a woman! I have watched this video at least 15 times in the past two days and every time she explodes at 5:05, I cringe because of the pain that she shows. It's in her voice, it's in her movement, it's in her eyes, it's in her... What a brilliant actress! I hope to one day be able to do to an audience what she did to me. Fantastic! Absolutely fantastic! Tony Award well-deserved!

  • Here from the cast of next to normal.. the cast from next to normal!

    lol

  • I love next to normal!!!! This is amazing! I want to be alice ripley when i star in a broadway show some day! J robert spencer is just great and aaron tveit is a cutie. :)

  • @ChrisTroudalebabe4ev

you NEED to see this musical. i saw it on broadway it was AMAAAAAAZING

  • she is incredible!

  • wahooo princess leah!!

  • that ending was fit!!!!

  • Was the kid in the green shirt in Rent? I feel like I recognize him.

  • @MelkhorX If you mean Aaron... I don't think so. I know he was in Wicked at one time though.

  • @KikimoLie Actually he WAS in Rent as Steve (on the tour). But that wasn't where I knew him from. I actually knew him as Frank Jr. from Catch Me if You Can's Seattle pre-Broadway run.

  • @MelkhorX Man... Are you serious? I consider myself a RENThead and had no idea! Okay even more of a reason to love RENT and Aaron!

  • @KikimoLie he was also Roger, and will be again at the Hollywood Bowl.

  • aaron tviet is soo yummy!!

  • @mizvryimperfect2 hell ya!

  • This is the best clip of Next to Normal I've seen on Youtube, I've seen a dozen versions but this is by far and away the most crystal clear one. THANK YOU for posting it!! I immediately had to favorite it! This and "I'm Alive" are my two favorite Next to Normal songs.

  • Um, what is the guy doing at the very end, when they show the producer. He's sitting behind him. Is he motioning that this wasn't good?!?!

  • oh man, the son is SO FREAKIN HOT!

  • the actor who plays the son is YUUMMMY omg

  • I know a guy who looks just like him!

  • can i say jealous!! lol

  • He's in Iraq right now :(

I MISS HIM! I watch this all the time it reminds me of him! Kyle come home soon!

  • it combines two of my favorite things... the drama and the intensity of a deep play with the great music and voices of a musical... God i hope i'll be able to see this one day... this was amazing

  • Those ppl have amazing vocals!

  • n2n should have won!!!

  • agreed.. =]

  • @wicked1481 Who DID win??

  • @BarrelRacingChamp1 Billy Elliot.. eww

  • @wicked1481 it did...

  • srry, grey, green shirt not purple

  • Okay, Thanks so much!!! Makes much more sense now! haha!

  • So what exactly is this song about? I love the song and all the emotion the actors put into their characters, but I have not the slightest idea as to what is going on. If someone could tell me that'd be awesome! Thanks!!

  • so Diana is manic depressive and dillusionnal. She thinks her son Gabe (guy in purple shirt) is there with her when he's been dead for sixteen years. in this particular number, Diana is arguing with her husband, when he answers back, she imagines that Gabe "saves" her

  • Diana is a manic depressive who sees her dead son (gabe), whose spirit wants the father (dan) to see him too. Dan ignores the boy and has never faced the death of his son, and he is always gung ho on things getting better and telling Diana she will be fine. Dan always tells her he hurts too, but he hides it so well she mistakes his attitude as not hurting like she does and they fight about this as Gabriel urges Dan to see him and face the fact that not everything is perfect as he wants it to be.

  • ooh okay, thank you so much!!

  • By far N2N should of won. having seen both Billy and N2N, i can honestly say this is the best of the both and all the nominees

  • I get goosebumps everytime she throws the silverware down....I can't stop watching this!

  • me too

  • I saw N2N last weekend. All I can say is 'fantastic! Every one of the six actors is perfect for their parts. If you have only one chance to see a Broadway show, this is the one I highly recommend. The show is adult-themed - not for kids - no nudity, just a few f***s and references to meds.

  • they are so amazing, and Alice Ripley has one of the greatest voices to ever hit the broadway stage! i havent seen the show (YET), but i want this song on my ipod, but i was searching itunes and i'm thinking that this is a compilation of a few songs, not just one. so, if im right, can someone tell me what they are?

  • It's "You Don't Know" into "I Am the One."

  • Wow. They are all amazing! the music is amazing! Their singing and acting! I have only just discovered this musical and already I am in love! She deserved that tony!!! Good for her! Hell I think they all should have got Tonys! Outstanding!

  • She has an amazing voice!

  • Sorry to sound ignorant, but why are they laughing at the start, at that one point during the presenting speech?? Thanks in advance.

  • That is Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia in Star Wars), and she was a manic depressive who was addicted to prescription pills. So it's funny because it's almost like she's talking about her own life. :)

  • They are laughing because the presenter, Carrie Fisher, has struggled with bipolar herself and was trying to comedicly relate to the teleprompter text.

  • I think what is so great about this show is that they all have absolutely incredible voices

  • Alice Ripley makes life worth living. INCREDIBLE! I'm seeing this Oct. 13th! I'm super stoked!

  • Billy elliot won over this. TONYS SUCK

  • has to be one of the musicals ever

  • This should have gotten best new musical. Hands down.

SO much better than Billy Elliot

  • I am amazed at this performance. The level of intensity is just amazing. You can SEE the feelings and internal battle in her face. It's truly amazing acting complimented by amazing singing. By far one of the best performances I've seen in a broadway production in a while.

  • This woman is frickin genius! She is that amazing! She became this part!!!

  • I really can't see anyone else in this role..Alice Ripley is simply amazing..

  • AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • I love this!!!!

  • I think I pretty much cream myself at 5:06each time I hear it. LOVE IT!

  • Oh man , me too!!! amazing!

  • It's difficult to choose a song which wouldn't give away any major plot details.

Although I suppose it would be quite easy to misinterpret this scene as Gabe having an Oedipus complex.

  • hahahah omg i swear i thought that even before i read your comment

  • They could have done "Just Another Day."

  • or "Light", actually i think they should have done Light, because then the whole cast would be singing

  • The trouble with that number is that it doesn't have a true resolution to it. It quits because Diana has had a mental break. And I don't know if it would have worked if they put an end to the song.

  • omg dude, your videos are of super duper quality...how did u get it to look just like it did on tv?

  • This performance was amazing. Although, my mom thought that it was a musical about a mom and her son harboring incestious[sp?] feelings for eachother when we watched this performance :x Also, Aaron Tveit will be brilliant in "Catch Me If You Can" :)

  • After the performance was over, one of my friends asked if Gabe had an Oedipus complex. :( This was a phenomenal performance, but it probably wasn't the best song to do.

  • Man...such a shame that most people will probably assume this of Gabe if they haven't seen/heard anything about the show. Yeah. I would've liked a song that featured all of them. Do you know why Jen wasn't able to perform with them? Was it because she doesn't sing at all in the songs they chose?

  • This is all guesswork, but to me it seemed like most performances showed off either the actor who had the best chance of winning or the show as a whole. This performance was centered around Alice Ripley, who pretty much had the Tony from the start, whereas Rock of Ages' performance showed off everyone and Shrek's performance showed off Chris Sieber. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's what it looked like to me.

  • Oh okay. It makes more sense now. I was just wondering about it because Jen was there in the crowd during the Rock of Ages performance(Wesley Taylor! :D). Hmm. Thanks for the insight :)

  • You know, you do have a point, and it makes sense, but in N2N almost the whole musical is centered around Alice so...

  • I <3 Aaron Tveit!!! (he was also amazing as Fiyero in Wicked)

  • Alice sounded out of time because the sound in that place is horrible and is very hard to hear. I don't know if you noticed but there were a few bits out of time in the Hair performance and when Aaron came on during the opening, he was a bit out of time, simply because of the fact that it must've been hard to hear, I mean have you seen how big that place is. They were the only parts which I saw anything out of time, but I'm sure there were a couple more.

  • i think you guys mean out of sync, not out of time...

  • Sound must have been really screwy in that theatre cause Alice sounded a bit out of time before that first chorus.

  • Spectacular! My favorite performance of the night by a mile.

  • I REALLY WANT TO SEE THIS...that Performance was awesome, one of my favorites of the night!!!

  • I would like to see this.

  • I wanna see this so bad! Too bad Aaron wont be back til Sept.

  • "Ultimately Hopeful" ?!?
