Ok, cotton burns easy, but I guess in the wild there isn´t much cotton. So I tried it with birchbark, dry grass and so on, but they won´t burn. In the tv-shows when Ray Mears light a fire he uses dry grass and ist burns well, so what´s my fault?
And what about this Horseshoe fungus? Has someone tried it with those?
@Voror youmust make sure your grass is completly dry. you also need to make your birch bark finer amadou is gathered from the fluffy layer which must also be dry
i used to try to catch toilet paper with a magnifying glass it wouldnt burn while bugs next to it did.. very weird... if that just went poof though with no fuel.. Ok then good job. However...If you have the prescence (sp) ..of mind to bring thing thing why not bring 12 lights.. one will work :P , and I've never had a lighter break or explode in my life.
Finding tinder does require some practice. Usually, by fluffing some paper or the shredding pieces of wood work well. Yes, a lighter or matches are more convenient. But this can definitely serve as a backup for that day when all else fails. Matches have failed me twice.
that is not wood. I don't know the term (maybe some sort of laminated coating) but it does not burn or scar that easily. got to test both ;). Looks like wood but not wood.
You just burned the fuck out of your table.

Ahhh, I tried it several times but I never managed it to light the damn stuff up. How did u do that?? What´s the secret?
Voror 4 years ago
Try cotton first (dry ofcourse) it should catch fire very easily.

Make sure you fluff the cotton. Tear it and try to let the sparks fall on the shredded fibers. Cotton is the easiest tinder to light!

@Voror
Several strokes could be used too, sometimes their justs isn't enough heat generated the first time regardless of the sparks.

no the cotton tinder was not soaked in gasoline. You can try this out if you like. Cotton does burn very easily.
