Superboy Season 2 - Gerard Christopher's Screen Test

Who wrote the dialogue for this screen test? Seriously! This should be required viewing at all film school across the world on how NOT to write a scene in comic-book film or TV adaptation. Just saying.

@drakian Maybe cause this was a tv show from 1988-1992 in the same time span as the Reeve movies, so they were basically using the same style of the Reeve suit. And in Superman Returns, singer wanted a newer style to fit with the modern era.

@jayce79 Haymes was better. At least he looked like Superboy and played Clark like a normal person, not the uber nerd that Gerard did in season 2 onwards. Gerard's a nice guy don't get me wrong, but I never did care for his Superboy portrayal. I actually remember being very upset when the show changed almost completely after season 1 when 2 first aired. Hated the character of Andy McAllister but Sherman Howard as Lex was definitely the best part.

Gerard Christopher looks way better here than he did in the series. His hair was way too long in the series and he put on way too much muscle to be plausible as a SuperBOY.

fun fact-for john haymes newton's screen test,he wore one of Chris Reeve's superman costumes.and for Gerard Christopher's screen test he wore one of john's superboy costumes!

Why does everyone think the latter Supermen have to 'look like' Christopher Reeve? As long has he resembles the comic book, he's set. And Gerard Christopher is hot, he does resemble the comics. For the critics calling him gay and with makeup-This was an early screen test people..not what he looked like on the show-aside from that gorgeous grin. The suit was different, the hair longer and no makeup. You can imagine this test as if it were being done on a stage, then he WOULD need the makeup.

I preferred John Haymes. He fit the role. Christopher Reeves was good looking but didn't come off with woman like gestures.

Well at least they did right with Brandon Routh as Superman.

You dont look like Superman unless you have that.. it makes them look a tiny bit otherworldly, in my opinion. They're too good looking, y'know? =)

Yes, Reeve is the best Superman. But in the new era, Routh did a good job as Superman. Tom Welling is NOT Superman. Brandon Routh is Superman.

@mawifans. In the kind who play act Tom Welling Superman......is a other kind. It isn't nessecary that he wear the superman suit. Of Cours, Chris Reeve was my superhero in my childhood to. He was and is the greatest.

Does Brandon Routh a second time play superman.......do you know anything?

@hcvang i'm glad to have met C.REEVE & gotten his autograph. i used to see him often when he was doing Broadway in New York. also i've met & shook hands w/ G. CHRISTOPHER in the early 90's. he was very nice & best of all he gave me an autograph headshot photograph of himself w/o me asking. it just made my day.

@d4seasons That's so awesome. :D I've heard Gerard was very nice and grateful to all his fans. I found a link to the Orlando Sentinel news articles. When he played Superboy he did a lot for charity and cared about helping the homeless and children. He got permission from DC to don the Superboy costume and promote recycling and trash clean-up. It's a shame he's not acting any more. I think he left a great mark on the Superman legacy. Now all they need to do is release seasons 2-4. The best imo.

This is just a small clip from the screen test. There is much more that was done. There another segment of Gerard as Clark Kent. This was the last two minutes of the screen test.

This is Gerard Christopher's actual screen test. If you look closely he is wearing John Haymes Newton's Superboy suit from Season One. Later, the costume designers would make changes to the suit for Season Two of the series.

Yeah, but, Gerard is Superboy. Tom is Superman! Gerard does look like a Superboy Christopher Reeve! But, you have to fully understand, that Reeve's appearances on Smallville pinpointed Tom Welling into becoming Christopher Reeve's successor as Superman! Gerard is Superboy! Tom is Superman!
