We took beer cans and bottles of Mateus Rose to the Free Trade Hall in Manchester on December 23rd 1972 and had the greatest night of our lives up to that point - tartan scarves (long before the Bay City Rollers), feather cuts and I came home with a Rod-kicked football printed with the words of their forthcoming single - "Cindy Incidentally". Doesn't get better than this...
