The dismissing part I really understand. I'm bisexual and when I was in a 3 month relationship with a man, my dad referred to him as my "boyfriend", and now that I've been in a relationship with a woman for 2 years he still calls her my "friend". Even though I've told him to call her my girlfriend.

seriously, im a gay woman and what i want, as im sure a lot of gay men and women will agree, is to be treated the same as everyone else.... not have special instructions given to my mother on how to meet my girlfriend.
do the parents of a straight man/woman need special instruction on how to make their child feel accepted? no, so why should we. we do have the same emotions as the rest of the population believe it or not!
I´m sorry, but if my children were gay, I would certainly need some orientation. It´s a life choice I don´t understand at all. I would be very worried about my child.
@monicaqr ..why would you be worried about your child? get over it, you wouldnt be worried about your child, you mean you would be worried about others perception of you or your gay child!.. i don't undertand parents like this.. no offence but your comment was ignorant.
@monicaqr Being gay is a sexual orientation, not a life choice. Staying in the closet, or trying to be straight by faking affection in a straight relationship causes more harm to gay people than being open and trying to find a partner to spend their lives with. You should meet a few gay people, and listen to what they have to say on the subject, so that you may be informed enough to stop believing everyone is straight, and people just choose to be in gay relationships. That's not logical.
@monicaqr It's not a choice. Most homosexuals would prefer to be straight, but don't want to lie to themselves like that. Would you choose a lifetime of oppression, discrimination, and inequality?
@vampypink Please realize that a lot of parents are new to LGBTness. My mother and father would never have dreamed that their son would be gay, and though they are very supporting, they still have some confusion. And, when you actually think about it, a lot of what he says is what happens in a hetero relationship anyway. In a way, you could think of this as a way to reassure parents that there's no difference between a hetero and homo relationship.
Excellent vid. Your vids will help anti gay parents learn that thier child being gay doesnt mean the world has ended. keep it up. All parents should see this vid.
damn, i thought this was about How to meet your gay/lesbian partners child!

Out of curiosity, what would you be worried about? Their immortal souls, or their mental wellbeing, or STIs, or what?
