  • Are the transducers water proof?

  • I have a sit in Kayak and as such do not a have a flat spot pointing straight down on the hull to mount the transducer. What would be the best way to mount one in this case?

  • Is there a fairly flat spot just behind the seat? If not, you can make a bracket to place on the rudder mount area. If you shoot at an angle it will not be very accurate.

  • Hi fishyaker, did you use a specific in-hull transducer or were you able to use the transom transducer? I understand about the air bubble issue just wondering about the transducer needed.

  • Sorry for the delay... Just make sure the bottom of the puck is flat. I have used standard H-birds and agles with no problem at all. Cheers!

  • could you make a video on how to install a rod holder?

  • This is probably a real dumb question but how does the tranducer read the water depth ect. with the hull inbetween it and the water??

  • the sound waves penetrate the hull, remember this is a solid meaning sound waves travel fast through it than air (air bubbles are bad for sounders). Though the waves can only penetrate through hull thickness of a couple of mm.

  • The hull isn't made of lead, boss.

  • cool i just got that fish finder today... is it good? i h to wait till spring time to use it

  • so was it good?

  • yeah all i need. it shows everything well for the average fishermen who doesn't go out too often

  • Do you specifically need a through hull transducer or does the application of goop allow you to use any transducer? Thanks a lot for the vid. Big help.

  • did u Goop the transducer to the interior floor or the bottom of the kayak

  • Sorry about the deal...

It is glued to the inside of the hull, centered under the cockpit of the kayak.

  • Great video.Did you just stick that transducer to the floor of the kayak? Please help me lol.New to kayaking and dont reele no what im doing.lol

  • Really easy...

Just find a centered spot inside the hull, and rough it up with sandpaper. Then glue down the puck. Make sure there are no air bubbles in the glue though, or resolution will be affected.

  • great video, one question though did you push the transducer to the floor of kayak or just suspend it in the goop?? as i want to fit transducer to my yak but unsure as have seen vids showing it pushed to the floor.

    thanks

    paul

  • I push it all the way down in the Goop. Make sure there are no air bubbles between it and the floor too.

  • hey fishyaker im new to the yake fishin i just bought a old town angler edition sit in kayak this month i have a lowarnce dx50 fish finder but no where to mount it with out it setting cocked could u help me out

  • If you feel like you have some extra cockpit space, take some plexiglass and make a small flat dashboard at the front of the cockpit.

  • Thank you so much for this vid. Very helpful

  • Thank you for your viedo.

  • I would be alot happier if u showed how to mount a fishfinder with the transducer out side not in side, -FLfisher12

  • where did you put the actuall transmitter for the imformation?

  • The transducer is basically centered in the kayak. I try to make sure it's not in a place that may break out of the water's surface. If there is room under the seat area, that is what I would prefer.

  • thanks

  • Nice vid, thanks for the information. A couple of questions though. What type of battery are you using (12v)?

What type and model FF? Does it have a GPS?

Does the speed and temp features of the FF work with a thru hull transducer?

I read that Humminbird claim their units have some problems accurately providing speed readings and temperature with thru-hull transducer mounts? Any comments

  • We use 12V sealed hobby batteries. They seem to work forever on a single charge. We installed an Eagle FF in this application, but maost any model works for a through-hull application, as long as the bottom of the transducer is fairly flat. This model does not have a GPS option. As for temp reading, you do lose some sensitivity, but I hear some FF's still work quite well with temp readings, depending upon the type of glue used.

  • thank you very much fishyaker. the information is very useful and again great job on your yak!

  • Thanks again! Yeh, my life revolves around three things... Family, work, and kayak fishing. Shout if you ever need anything.

  • very helpful, But I would love to see a more in depth video

  • nice video, doesn't really show where you mounted the transducer though. Did you just mount it in the hull by your feet?

  • This kayak is an OK Prowler Big Game. It has a factory battery rack in the hull. We mounted the transducer almost directly under the console, pretty much under the battery rack. It is just inside the front hatch.
