fuckin great movie. after a history of tragedy/violence sometimes all you need is a good father figure... even if you dont realize it yourself at the time. sam jackson being a badass is nothing new but being a badass father is what makes this a powerful film. strongly recommended. (also the mandatory: girl is SO FUCKING HOTTT!!! gad DAMN!)

This is the BEST movie you'll ever see, so powerful it will change you, so don't make assumptions based on the trailer, you will be wrong if you do. The director made several movies, each focused on a specific music type, this one about Blues, Hustle & Flow about Rap, another is rock (name?) & I'm still waiting on the last 2. Jackson & Ricci do award winning work in this film, just awesome acting, seamless in fact. Very risky 4 them 2 do, but the story was worth the risks.

The trailer originally shocked me, thought it was some weird perverted bondage movie, but I got the movie anyway because of the music theme, then I found out the music is the palest part of this movie, it's the story powerfully told that grabs hold & won't let go. This is a surprisingly excellent film - the trailer may come across like a sex exploitacion film, etc. However, IMO, it is a film that explores southern rural culture, black - white relations, sexuality, religion and especially the power of the blues. Having Son House (an icon in blues music history) give the intro to the blues and the closing is a brillant touch. I highly recommend seeing this film (and I have no commercial interest in it).
