To be truthful I never realy paid attention to Liza Minelli growing up, and only recently discovered what an amazing performer she is. Sadly her voice now isn't what it was, but she can still perform the Hell out of a song!

I think people should stop saying that she can never surpass her mom. I mean she wasn't even trying in the first place. She just wanted to establish herself as an individual performer. Even in her early career her approach to singing has always been different and unique. And she is absolutely brilliant. I love Judy Garland's work and I do think Liza sounds like her at times but their approach to singing is absolutely different that we must not compare.

Liza Minnelli is an excellent performer but I am afraid she could not top her mother Judy Garland. She embodied the hope and dream of Hollywood musicals with her great self -sacrifice. Nobody could be ever like her; even her daughter Liza would fail to accomplish what Judy did. I am sorry if this commend offends you.

Liza is simply unsurpassed at what she does for a song like this one. She's explained herself that she creates a character for every song she does, including a life history, and when she sings the song it's the character singing the song. Which accounts for this song being so totally different from the manner in which it usually is done when she takes into her hands. Ditto "Alexander's Ragtime Band" and so much other classic American popular music from Broadway.
