F35 is the focus now (and there is plenty of evidence that it is in trouble as well.) you are right, to be viable you need a LOT more than 187, cancellation of the project just backs up my argument. 800 (ish) was the original product run.

What you should do is lower this to 4million and with the money you would have wasted on those 500,000 troops can go into reserach and develpoment along with actual production. No sense in maintaining an oversized force if most of them are based in the states.

@packr72 The standard Marine does 13 weeks training while standard British Army troops do 26 weeks. The same thing goes for the Royal Marines which have the longest intial training in the world. Im not hating on your trianing, you need more men than the Brits. This is why trianing is of a lower standard. What Im saying is in a 1v1 Marine vs British Soldier= Britain wins. Oh and about the elite para-troopers Britain has the paras which are equal and the Pathfinders. Look up the Pathfinders. :)

I think F22 is a stupid looking plane, but it is the most advanced. Stealth isnt exactly necessary and it doesnt always work, but apart from that the F22 still uses the most advanced tech in all aspects. It might not be the most maneuverable, but it will bring down anything.

@Irelandor better training, maybe better than regular army, but marines are trained from day one one shot one kill, donot underestimate marines, plus you have army rangers, probally the best light infantry in the world, 2 elite airborne divisions, we need more men than great britain, simply cause how large our country is land wise, and the fact we have bases all over the world in hotspots, south korea,taiwan,saudi arabia, and now iraq and afganistan, our training is more than enough,

@packr72 The standard Marine does 13 weeks training while standard British Army troops do 26 weeks. The same thing goes for the Royal Marines which have the longest intial training in the world. Im not hating on your trianing, you need more men than the Brits. This is why trianing is of a lower standard. What Im saying is in a 1v1 Marine vs British Soldier= Britain wins. Oh and about the elite para-troopers Britain has the paras which are equal and the Pathfinders. Look up the Pathfinders. :)

You train 100 men to fight so that at least 90 of them return home. No training will result in less than 30 of them returning home. What I earlyier said was for every 100 British soldiers at least 95 of them will return usually around 98. American troops have a ratio of around 93 out of 100. You have confused the question because it was originally about equipment and trianing and then you have gone and said the US does more fighting but the British are always there to say it is not just a US campaign. U go we go.

Every American appreciates the UK help but the simple fact is that without the US forces, UK troops could not have been able to achieve success. My point about Iraq is that the US was the only country that could have deployed that many troops across the world and conduct a war of that size in record time. I think the only thing that keeps countries like Pakistan, Iran , China or Russia from aggrression is our relationship with UK and the strength of the two of us.

I think F22 is a stupid looking plane, but it is the most advanced. Stealth isnt exactly necessary and it doesnt always work, but apart from that the F22 still uses the most advanced tech in all aspects. It might not be the most maneuverable, but it will bring down anything.

@falcrum thats not the point, the all of the those aircraft u named can ply the air superiorioty role, the f18 superhornet protects its carrier in the air superiority role, but it was designed as a strike fighter, same with the f16 in the gulf war air campaigns it played both strike and air superiority roles, the f35 is multi-role, and is easily capable of downing the su50 along with the f22,even if it is HALF the size

@aa11ff Uh, get you're facts right. F15'S fought the Mig 21, Mig 23, Mig 25, Mig 29 , su-7, su-22, su-25, ll-76 PC-9, MI-8 transport helicopters and the great Mirage F1. F15's fought all of these aircraft and still had no air to air combat losses. The F15 is 44 years old. It may be old, but it still has not suffered ANY combat losses. Learn how to spell also.

The SU-47 is an experimental aircraft. I fail to see how it could be successful in anything other than providing experimental data, especially when fully-functional aircraft which have already been deployed are ranked lower on the list.
