  • Dont you think they were the Monkeys of the 1980s ?

  • HE LOOKS LIKE DUFFY DUCK

  • This song just made you want to kick off out of work/school and whether you failed maths/had a bad day at work - you felt nothing could keep you DOWN!

  • Yeah, I'll go along with that, was14 back then and the music was much much better. TOTP was fun to watch and slow sets existed

    !!!!!!!!!!

  • thanks, lots of Love, Paully xxx

  • theres way too many cheap bands out to today they make a quick Dollar or 2 and then comeback with there comeback tours Music like Fantastic day will live on well after Your all gone to Hell i mean Heaven :)

  • fantastic day yyyyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaaaa fantastic song !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's interesting reading clouser67's comments. This was probably the last vinyl 7" single record I ever bought and played it to death. Such a contrast with todays MP3 download culture. It was just the meduim we had available then. But at the end of the day it's not the delivery system it's the content that counts innit?

  • I was ten when this song was released and I love it even today!

  • At the time, I thought this lot were a bit wishy washy-prefered echo & the bunneymen & Teardrop Explodes-but these days, this stuff is infinately more listenable! Yes, a little fey, but those poppermost melodies sure hit this old gits spot!!!

  • I was in high school in 1982. And I'm sure had I been aware of this song at that time I would have vomitted. But by today's standard, this song is a masterpiece. Thanks for posting it. I think every 20-something or younger should see it so they can realize what's being produced these days is cheap fakery. Just like their coins are cheap fakes, soft drinks are cheap fakes, computer generated special effects are cheap fakes. Too bad they're all conditioned to expect & accept cheapness.

  • @clouser67

    Touche

I was into the Jazz-Funk scene when this was out, and way too arrogant and aloof to appreciate what was an absolute gem of a track.

Shame. That arrogant, affected ego prevented me from really enjoying a lot of great stuff that was around in the early 80's, such as Duran Duran, Culture Club, China Crisis Spandua Ballet to name but a few. . . . . . . . . . . . .mind you, having said that, the London Jazz-funk scene at the time was fuckin sensational

  • @clouser67 totally agree everyone wants summat for nothing! we sold all our industry time to bring back British goods for a proper price! x

  • @clouser67 Speaking of cheap fakery, did you know that Haircut 100 are miming on this video? That's pretty cheap, and it's fakery too. Also, you claim everything today is cheap fakery - a lot of things today, I will admit, are terrible - autotune, crappy covers of classic 80s tunes, etc, but not everything. There's lots of amazing underground music nowadays, and plenty of "non-commercial" groups that are just as talented as groups like Haircut 100. I'm under 20, and I love 2010 and the 80s!

  • @rockguitar2012 Everybody had to mime on TOTP, which is why the likes of The Clash boycotted it.

  • @crapple009 Exactly my point - "cheap fakery"'s been around for a long time, not just in today's culture :)

  • @rockguitar2012 Tis true, but the important thing is that Haircut 100 recorded their music themselves in the studio as opposed to anonymous studio musicians doing it. Miming on T.V. never bothered me as long as the mimers were the same ones making the music in the studio. Good example- The Beatles.

  • @crapple009 I agree with you here, I hate fake studio recording and I admire musicians who write and record their own music without autotune and heavy editing. My comment a month ago was in reply to clouser67 though, just telling them that not all music today is fake, there are still plenty of great artists out there. I'm not hating on Haircut 100 or anything, they're ace :D

  • @rockguitar2012 Exactly- I was just reading that comment earlier :-)

  • @crapple009 Rubbish, it was the 80s where miming was rife on totp, during the 60s and 70s plenty of bands sang live, even a few bands like new order sang live on there in the 80s.

  • @rockguitar2012 but everyone mimed on top of the pops in the 70's/80's didnt they?

  • @pattyken1 I know, that's my point, just like many artists use autotune and heavy editing today, people cheated back then too xD

  • @pattyken1

Nearly everyone, there were a handful of exceptions. It was mainly to make sure they sounded like the single of course. But it was also a case of it being a logistic impossibility to squeeze so many different live acts into a weekly 40 minute show. Especially on the BBC's budget !

  • @clouser67 I'm 24an I grew up on Pelican West. Too right though kids need too know their roots. Well put.

  • @clouser67 Haha, as if this was not cheap manufactured bubblegum pop!

  • Fantastic! :)

  • I still love these happy, well-crafted songs! Thanks for posting.

  • nick heyward's a legend :)
