First heard this in the 80's when I bought the Cole Porter covers cassette when travelling throuigh the far east. I have only just rediscovered it when going through the loft and now can stop playing it as it brings back loads of memories of weeks on the beach in Bali.
Incredible song and deeply moody lyrics, In all honesty probably one of their very
best. Amazed to find on utube..........brilliant to finally put the video to the music after all these years
@kellykinsellives - they still have good songs, ballads up their sleeves.like "Magnificent" and if people gives them courage they'll bring back good soft tunes again.
@kellykinsellives they still have good songs, ballads up their sleeves like "Magnificent" and be there and if people give them courage they'll bring back good soft rock tunes again.
For me, this song gives the real feeling of pain and obsession pretty much better than any other I've ever heard. Guy legitimately sounds like he is suffering. I wonder if Bono was going through something bad at the time.
ah, back when u2 was relevant and produced good music instead of that schlock on no line on the horizon. ugh that cd was horrible. i mean compare that to achtung baby, or even how to assemble an atomic bomb. not good music at all.
@cheomire - No Line on the Horizon is awesome and I'm sick and tired of people bitching because they don't sound exactly the same on every album! A band needs to evolve damnit!
i totally agree with you. evolution is essential to keeping it fresh and keeping the music from sounding the same. which i felt their last album sounded like the previous one, and the one before that. daniel lanois and brian eno have now produced a lot of u2. they actually had rick rubin producing the last album, but the band felt it didnt fit, so they went back to their tired and true sound.
@cheomire i agree. they got way too soft and less ballsy. plus, it seems they try to hard to make albums to prove that they're the best band in the world (that's radiohead, no contest) and to make the grammys worth something (they aren't). plus, bono needs to shut up about stupid political causes and just rock.
You don't think being human is more important then being a rock star? Maybe he would tell you to fuck off given the choice but i guess it's easy to form an opinion about someone you don't know. He's achieved more and done more for the people then you ever will.
@Jakker27 Not if you're a piece of shit like bono is. why should i give a shit about the problems of the world when i have my own problems to deal with? i go to a rock concert to be entertained and have a good time. not to be beaten in the head about the problems of the world.
Swine Flu is deadly, it has killed 4,000 Americans and the vaccine, while it has had isolated cases of very severe side effects, is a chance worth taking for anyone at risk for swine flu. If most people were not using antibacterial handwashes, the swine flu deniers would be dying in their tens of thousands right now. These people are dangerous, convincing people that there are conspiracies by the flu vaccine companies etc.
When did high school science classes stop teaching how the human immune system works? I mean, anyone who had any knowledge whatsoever about how vaccines work wouldn't say something this stupid.
Excelente musica e interpretación de un clásico.

@ActaNonVerba71 Is it me or is there a bit of Trent Reznor going on here? Its my favourite Cole Porter song, but this is a wicked version!

@MulBerrie I can see your point on that one...dark, agonizing kind of song.

U2 do Cole Porter and Depeche Mode in one foul swoop!

Now, why in the world would you discuss the flu over a Cole Porter classic?
