@josh54739 Hi Josh, we have about 35 right now, we try to add 2 or 3 per year. Good luck with yours, woodies need guys like you to supply a house for them!
Great Video guys! It's nice to see the youth out there learning conservationism. I am very fond of the Wood Duck myself and love to hunt and harvest them. Great example of how we must do our part to make sure they are around for our children's' children.
I have to say this is a great video and I am happy that you are not just harvesting but preserving our future with ducks. I am proud supporter of DU and an active member! its nice to see some of the work people do not only for the ducks but the environment! Good work! Great education also!
OH ALL FUCKING HUNTERS ARE OUT KILLING WITH NO REGARD bull shit i do enuff maintence out in the bush i bet im in the woolds more then all thes people hateing hunters
great vid tnx for showing how us fellow hunters do our part in wildlife conservation i live in ct as well and ive been puting boes up myself but also for other animals like bats and owls trying to do my part and great job teaching ur son at a young age
i thought some one was taking the piss when i saw this in my in box.but you guys are doing a great job.i only hunt wild so i dont have all the work ,just the sunday joint.we can only have air guns in England but you hit em every time at 30 yards.i love ducks.happy hunting buddy
Thanks for the neat video. It amazes me how many anti hunters do nothing to help wildlife, while hunters pay additional taxes and often do extra things to help wildlife. What irony. Please ignore the rude among the anti hunters, and keep it up helping wild life. If you are offended by this comment, get off you lazy butt and go put up your own damn wood duck boxes. Watch out for gators and moccasins while you're at it. They don't suffer us animal lovers any better than tigers or piranhas.
ok this video has given me alot of harrasement lately. To let you people know, i am not against hunting if an animal is overpopulated. I just think it isn't fair to kill an animal for "fun". That's my opinion. You people think it's the end of the world if someone says their opinion. That's why half of you hunters are rude. Not all of you, just half. Please stop giving me crap by harrasing me. i've had enough of it. I'm 11 years old, jesus!
Well lets just call this a lesson to you, dont make stupid comments and we will not reply to them, you brought it on yourself. NOw go suck your thumb in the corner with the rest of the screwed up anti hunters and eat a carrot or something, but get the hell off my channel!
It verys greatly year to year, about 22-25 get used each year, for the most part there will be 60-70 ducklings around each spring in one flock and another 20-30 in another flock close by.
this is the kind of vid people need to show that hunters are the main source of help in the wild while you have activist bitching and complaining but never getting anything done thank you for this vid im a hunter my self and i personally try to help the environment as much as possible to maintain the game and wild life.
hunters are not only having fun with what they do but they also help regulate the wildlife population to keep the food chain going and not having animals over eat food sources
ok umm why you sent this to me, i dont know. I think it was kinda weird, since i'm a freakin vegitarian and animal activist.. but so anyways i think animals shouldn't be slaughtered at all, but hunting is a big no no for me. Unless your dying, eat grains, fruit, veggies, and some other stuff.
"eat grains, fruit, veggies" If that is all you are eating, YOU ARE DYING!! Slowly!! Eat a steak! Hunters do more for wildlife than you Veggy Lovin FREAKS will ever do! It is not a sin to kill animals! Read Genesis 9 in the Bible! Though I'm sure you don't believe in God! Most animal rights Freaks Don't! That's why you think animals are human! We were created in the Image of God! Animals are not Human and never will be!!
Grains, fruit, and veggies are not food. They are the food of my food. Why would I want to refrain from eating meat anyway? It is natural to eat meat just ask a wolf.
This video was sent to subscribers of Ducks Unlimited and other duck related channels in hopes that other guys with duck boxes out there will remember to get out and maintain them for the year. pugsarenumba1, just cant take it that hunters try to do good for the wildlife, she is 34 years old and as immature as an 11 year old!
It's nice that they/you put up boxes for the wood ducks, but that's only so they can be hunted, which I don't really agree with. I understand hunting to a certain extent, but I don't think it should be a "sport". Perhaps you should be a bit more careful when you decide to send videos to someone and make sure that they would be interested in what you want to share with them.
Part of my youth was spent in the Mississippi Delta. These boxes are every where. Hunters love nature way more than any PETA member can ever think to. Nature is in our blood. Our blood runs thick. Our blood runs true. Thank you lord for the beauty of nature.
Exactly. PETA members will never understand this. Hunters are MUCH bigger conservationists and nature enthusiasts than those bitching keyboard warriors will ever be. PETA members are so.... hateful.
Hunting is always good, as long as you waste nothing of the animal. Eat it.
SpamAccount--You completely missed the point about what PETA accomplishes.
American Hunters are possibly the only hunters that go out and kill animals ... with a FULL BELLY !!.
Our pioneering forefathers did hunt and did kill wild animals ... TO FEED THEMSELVES and to survive in the wilderness...NOT AS A "SPORT" with a belly already full.
There lays the BIG difference, between your way of think and PETA's way of thinking.
Hunting is not even a "sport" ... who's on the opposing team?
So basically you're saying "hurr durr every hunter should stop hunting and just buy meat from the supermarket". There's a big difference between me and PETA's way of thinking... yeah, you bet.
@librophile well let me speak for most hunters when i say not everyone has the money to pay the prices of meat in the grocery store these days plain and simple also your forgetting to mention the conservation effects of hunting without hunters harvesting animals they would become over populated and eventually starve to death for loss of food some hunters just like being in the outdoors its not only about killing i have a lot of respect for every animals life i have taken
This is a great video. We have about 50 Wood Duck boxes on the six freshwater lakes of our refuge down here in Florida (St. Vincent National Wildlife Refuge). Volunteers take care of them, but they were funded by DUCKS UNLIMITED, and we are very grateful for their support. It is especially heartening to see you bring the next generation along in conservation, as in general, we are not focusing on that important effort enough. Thanks again for posting this. What a wonderful family activity!
i'm gratefull that there is people like you around who helps with the nature and care about these wood ducks without people like this there wouldn't be as much wood ducks as there is today you guys should be very proud of yourselfs this is what you call real pride when you do something good to help others espicaly if it's animals
An interesting video. I did not know the abolition of raccoon trapping had caused such a problem for the Wood Duck as you show, but in the end it does not surprise me. The Law of Unintended Consequences runs deep and swift, and leave it to bunny-huggers to forget it.
It is good to see the sport and the hunt continues, especially in such a fashion that it profits both the ducks and the hunters. Keep at it, if we allow such pursuits to die who knows what the consequences shall be?
Great video, it's great to see people enjoying the outdoors and teaching conservation and the love of the outdoors. Your son looks like he enjoys himself.
Very nice property, looks as though you don't have to go far for duck and upland game hunting.
I'm going to check out more of your videos.
You both do good work, from the rest of us that love the outdoors....Thanks
Great video! What a nice way to spend a day with your son. I take my six year old son shooting with me once a month or so and we have a fantastic time together.
Thank you for helping with the preservation of our duck population! If it wasn't for people like you there wouldn't be much in the way of game birds and animals left in this great country of ours. Keep up the good work!
Ya, thats about it in a nut shell, would it be better to just kill them? We raise about 80 to 100 per year and shoot 3-10 per season, got to be a good deal for the ducks-right?
It's not so much the maintaining I don't understand. I suppose because I'm not one for hunting, it's much more difficult for me to understand the 'killing' portion. It just seems like the maintaining is a much healthier hobby.
Yes, it would be but how many people do you know that maintain wood duck boxes and are not hunters? None I'm sure, me neither, if it were not for hunters efforts there would be very few wood ducks. Thas the funny thing about wood ducks, with out the hunters we wouldnt have many, since the bunny huggers made trapping unprofitable the raccoon population has boomed and they wipe out most natural wood duck nest, go figure.
You make a good point. I suppose that no one would help the Wood Duck population if there wasn't at least some gratification that came afterwords. Alright, thank you for the insightful information.
I think that is excellent. You take some and you put some back. Taking only what you need. WE are indeed tending the garden. Thank you for referring me to this. sincerely, JAMES.
No problem sir, and thank you for your invitation. Before my accident which left me in a wheelchair, I used to live in Kansas. Now, I'm in San Francisco, California and I sure do miss everything that Kansas has - especially the beauty of nature. People there work all the time and all day long - just to survive. My uncle had a 2600 acre farm. I witnessed what happens on the inside. I miss it. Anything I can do to help and support - you can count on my. Sincerely, JAMES.
LOL, timming is everything, we are in Connecticut, I am glade you care enough to put up duck boxes, it means you are not taking from the enviroment as much as you are giving back. Thanks!
Thanks for stopping by, compared to your videos the quality of mine are darn right embarrsing, I need a HD camera and more time for editing, always in a hurry, I just hope this video reminds guys to take care of thier boxes before spring.
Thank You, but what does riistanhoito mean? I have been hunting and trapping this piece for more then thirty years, it used to belong to my uncles, I had a chance to buy it 15 yrs ago but I could not afford it so I went in partnership with 2 buddies and 3 of us own it together, we bought it so our kids would always have a place to hunt and fish. It was some hardship paying for it and I thank my wife for being a good sport about makeing the sacrafices she has to pay for it.
Sweet video Jim. Those ponds freeze over good in the winter? If so those would be perfect for hunting coyote and fox on....just a roadkill and a pop up blind wooohaaaaa
That was a great video. I'd like to make some and put them out in a year or two with my son. We have a great swamp for it that inhabits hundreds of wood ducks. I assume other ducks use them as well? When do they hatch and do they occupy them throughout the year? Very cool video!
In this area Wood ducks are the only ones that use them, the hens move into them in April and they are out in May, about 4-5 weeks, the ducklings only spend a couple of days when they jump out and never return for the year. The boxes stand emty 10 1/2 months a year.
Very interesting indeed. I just hunted ducks this past year and will do again, it was a blast. The only problem is it interfeared with bow season and we were reluctant to do too much shooting on this property. It's nothing to be sitting in the bow stand on the swamp edge and have 4 to 600 ducks (mostly woodys) fly in right before dark. I'll make a video next season, it's a great spot.
Thanks for the great video and Idea. will have to make some!! Sometimes other birds get in a eat the eggs. seen it done in other types of nesting Boxes. Great to see the kids involved!! Ed 5/5
Great shot mate hunting is great fun keep it up mate youre videos are great.

It is true hunters maintain the population so they can continue to hunt. Its a very delicate cycle.

To help the ducks breed to later hunt them down and kill them is not my cup of tea.
To build wooden boxes to help ducks preserve the specie without killing down, makes more sense to me.

Thanks for stopping by, compared to your videos the quality of mine are darn right embarrsing, I need a HD camera and more time for editing, always in a hurry, I just hope this video reminds guys to take care of thier boxes before spring.

Its preservation of the game. Making boxes for birds, feeding animals, hunting predators and such like that.

Thanks for that, maybe I should rename the place riistanhoito, if only I could pronounce it.

Nice video, and nice place you got!
Thats riistanhoito in our country ;)
nuuskapeke69 2 years ago

SusanTheHunter 2 years ago
Some years the canel through the center does freeze solid but its moving pretty good, all the ponds around it though do freeze good, lots of yotes.
ctgolfer 2 years ago
Dude I'd be smokin them coyotes on those ponds. You should try it man. MIchael would have a ton of fun...long hours though...

That was a great video. I'd like to make some and put them out in a year or two with my son. We have a great swamp for it that inhabits hundreds of wood ducks. I assume other ducks use them as well? When do they hatch and do they occupy them throughout the year? Very cool video!
hunterwyattmonica 2 years ago

Ya, we put it off a little too long, we lost most of the ice, makes it twice as hard, I like to do them while the kid is in Feb Vacation.
