The rhyme, and the message of this song flows from the outer(physical) environment to the inner( emotional) from there to the spiritual part of it then again!!!! reverse the case. wonder how the World would have been without music.
@ Athome44, Boy you been slipping. When i first hear this song in naples, italy...... I was sick. You need to here the old version of this song, sound like they recorded the song in a tiny room. And the re-master one are sweet.
@pusher2009 agree with yu, white man cant understand what europeans countries made with the colonialism, they treat us like dogs, no school for us, executions, torture, and now they still put for president who they choose, colonialism is not dead!!!!
Sensational "Fela Kuti" wonderful, amazing, brave warrior ... follow the struggle for peace and freedom, respect for life, forever in our minds, strengthen our hearts. serves as a lesson for everyone!
THIS IS AWESOME. IT'S NICE TO HEAR "PALAVA" IN A DIFFERENT VERSION. I'LL LOVE TO HEAR MORE VERSION OF FELA'S MUSIC IN COUNTRY, REGGAE, ROCK N ROLL, R N B, SALSA, MERENGE, RAP, WESTERN etc. BABA MAAL'S VOICE IS..............SWEET. MAY BABA KUTI'S SOUL REST IN PERFECT PEACE.
@sunny9886 PALABA IS NOT A YORUBA WORD SIR. IT'S NOT SPELLED "PALABA" EITHER. IT'S SPELLED "PALAVER". IT IS AN ENGLISH WORD. FIRST USED IN THE 18TH CENTURY DURING THE BRITISH COLONIAL RULE OVER THEIR COLONIES.
WHENEVER THE INDIGENES FAILED TO CARRY OUT THE LAID DOWN RULES OF THE BRITISH, OR IN VIOLATION OF THE RULES, THEY (the indigenes) WOULD BE SUMMONED FOR HEARING TO EXPLAIN THEIR REASONS FOR NOT FOLLOWING RULES. THAT HEARING IS WHAT IS CALLED "palaver". CROSS EXAMINATION UPON CROSS EXAMNTN
@sunny9886 IF FOUND GUILTY, THE PUNISHMENT IS USUALLY SEVERE. FOR THIS REASON, THE INDIGENES WOULD GO EXTRA MILE TO COMPLY WITH THE RULES IN ORDER TO AVOID BEING SUMMONED FOR HEARING (palaver). THE INDIGENES SAW PALAVER AS Wahala (trouble, unrest, discomfort, pain, agony etc.) THAT'S WHY YOU ALWAYS HEAR PEOPLE ESPECIALLY IN WEST AFRICA SAY "no palaver o". MEANING, no trouble. I HOPE THIS SHED LIGHT AND UNDERSTANDING TO WHAT BABA KUTI IS SAYING OR SINGING ABOUT HERE. THANKS.
Felas vocal power makes this version less appealing.Nice attempt but its a long shot from the original. Its not even close.Instrumentation I WILL SAY THEY ARE GOOD .70%
Why is it that anytime a black man expresses the fact that "hey, I don't like a foot on my neck - not even a white one - " that he is labled as disliking the white man?
no he don't hate white folks.only preaches self-pride from an African perspective,as well as other issues affecting africas on the continent and in the diaspora i.e military dictatorships, skin bleaching, loss of ones culture etc.Listen, if you can grasp his pidgin english.peace
No one can deny, what a man, Red Hot and dead. Have been that red hot. Hope those who can dont just listen to this, but buy and support, not just Aids but the memory of a great one
i heard this guy hates and insults the white man;i don't care i just love his music and rthyms since my nigerian friend introduced me to his songs....long live FELA!!
He doesn't hate white people at all, he is against the exploitation of his country, whether it's from Western countries or his own country's leaders that were in power.
Sorry Fela does not hate or insult the white man. His songs are directed against oppression by both the White man and the Africans that have taken over them in Africa. Most of his songs are directed at Africans and black people in general to respect their identity and culture. The effect of slavery and colonialism on the black man is for him to have low self worth of himself, and without this you cannot achieve anything in Life.
Hahahahahahahaha. No one ever thought it's a black thing to listen to Fela. And you didn't come up in people's face to say you are white. What happened to just listening to the song and just comment without racial talks? Go listen to Fefe naa efe white boy. hahahahaha Happy new year
My comment was based on a conversation I was having in real life. You know, that place where people have actual voices, faces, and bodies?
Simply talking about race isn't racism, and shouldn't be me automatically met with hostility. All this does is perpetuate racial animosity. Grow up and move on.
No one here knows what your interaction in real life was so no one really cares. I was refering you to another Fela song to go and listen to but it seems you are still stuck in your world.
no me lo van a creer!!!! este CD lo encontré en mixup a 50 pesos!!!!! ya lo tenían como de salida y la verdad es que es un excelente disco!!!!!!!!!!!!
The original of this is much better than this, there was a painful simplistic irony in the original, the saxophones or trumpets served to compound the emotion of 'palava' in the song...also felas almost daunting tone of singing was almost judge-like to further suggest despair. This adaptation, though good, i feel loses some of that beautiful simplicity.
The black man has the power to change the world. We have to life with nature and have to respect each other but not in my life time.Bless all over the world find your peace
This videoclip is so good. However, I would use this opportunity to remind all the black race around the world that every black person on the surafce of this earth is from Africa from the start. I hope Barak obama will use his Good position to ask all the rich country to start to invest in africa. African continent needs education and technology in order to take care of themselves. I want the west to stop sending food to africa. I want the west to stop sell arms to various rebel groups in africa
Yep, by being compassionate and not being so selfish!!! We could start there, from the government to some of our people who care more about their own pockets before the citizens. (part 1) When Trouble sleep, Yanga go wake am, Waking him dey find PALAVER, HE GO GET(repeats) When cat sleep, Rat go bite him tail. Tenant lost him job, Him sit down for house, Him dey think of job, Mr. Landord come wake am up, He say, "Mister, pay me your rent" Waking him dey find PALAVER...
