I had just as much fun with my old C64 as my kids have with the latest and greatest Xbox games and unlike xbox my old C64 never ever broke down or had problems at all and in is still running beautifully this day.
Buy a real one, theyre still around if you know where to look! The new one is just an atom PC in a retro looking box. (With a custom Ubuntu for an OS).
Those images of the system are all renderings. Chances are that they won't even use sculpted, full-stroke spring-based keys on them if they make them at all.
I love how "CAN'T GET A GIRLFRIEND, LOL" has now become the go to insult for anyone who is even a little bit geeky. It's funny, I'm a geek and have never had a problem getting a girlfriend, or a wife like I have had for the past 7 years. So that implies to me that anyone who thinks "getting a girlfriend" is some unreachable badge of honor for anyone with semi-intelligent interests have, themselves, had an enormously difficult time getting a girlfriend. Fucking losers.
@ToricoUK You can. Just buy an C64 and a Keyrah. Thats a USB interface to connect a C64 keyboard. Or a C128, C128D, A600 or A1200. I used one of those for my PC in a A500 Case project.
your room is nicer than my cradle, er basement, er my mom's basement. i have been trying for the past 10 years to leave but i can't! why? i like free rent and mom's cooked meals :/
I thought it would be cool to get a vintage looking computer with a new computer in it. I then realized they are under powered and its basically a laptop with no screen included.
Ill take the 2 minutes and 3 seconds back that I spent watching a drunk man rage about a company that hasn't been around for almost a decade forgetting to print letters on the side of the keys, thank you very much.
The keyboard is IBM AT Clone style redesigned to make it look like a Commodore 64. Still, you are right. It would of been nice to had something on the side of the keys.
Actually lost for words! - Are you on medication? Do you drink coke by the bucket load? I get the feeling you have never had a girlfriend... Not quite sure why YouTube recommended your video to me but I certainly hope it doesn't do it ever again!
u r a true geeek i commend u i feel the same about my first pc...emac white shell i want the new amiga im putting either windows 8 or ubuntu 12 on it i think ubuntu12 suits i better opensource goodness
Do I plan on buying one of these? Absolutely! I think this is a great concept and I'm very glad to see someone doing this. I'm also impressed with the OS that was put together for this as it's very polished. My only minor complaint is I wish it had some sort of discreet graphics and hope that they can sort that out in the future. I still have my old C64 but you can't use it for everyday computing. This is just too cool and I plan on having mine soon.
I STILL have the C64 I bought in 1983, STILL got my C2N I bought in 1983, I STILL got my 1541 I bought in 1985 and I STILL have the 3,000 odd C64 games I bought for it from 1983 to about 1990 - and they still all WORK and I STILL play games on it DAILY!
I'm using a 64 right now. been with them from day 1. I can program and do things that apple and bill gates only dream of. like I just hacked your system when you read this post?
I have my Commodore 64 (build from two non-functional machines) right here, my VIC 1541 right here, and know what poke 646,128 does. So don't be a nerd, be a real nerd.
Anyone who was familiar with the Amiga back in the day and who is wondering about the 'Amiga' line-up should actually ignore the company mentioned in this video as they aren't producing a credible and viable machine because they don't own the rights to the Amiga operating system. If you want to discover the real Amiga operating system and learn about the modern hardware and software which is available today - should head over to the official AmigaOS website which can be found at: amigaos.net
The C=64 keyboard was not all that great. They wasted a whole key on the useless Britsh Pound Key and another one on the Up carat/Pi. You never used those, ever, ever. And yet every other line you were doing finger gymnastics pressing Shift-4 to get a $ for strings when you programmed. Plus it really could of used a hardware reset button, which we wired up off the cartridge port.
Short answer - NO. Its too expensive, way out of my afforability range. Rather have it an Vic-20 case. And rather hack together mine own. Buying one isn't gangsta. Hacking up your own is. And if you can't do that, its still cool to run the real thing and let kids learn how to program BASIC on it.
The new C64x is a cool idea. However, at about $1K the price is a bit high. For about half that you could get a genuine, non-functioning C64 (with the PETSCII graphics on the keys) and slap in a mini ITX mobo yourself. Of course the trick is getting the keyboard to work. It requires some custom circuitry to convert the C64 switch matrix into PS/2 signals. If it's worth paying $500 or so to have someone else do that for you (albeit with non-faithful key edges) then the C64x is the way to go.
2. Buy an original C64 with the harddisk cartridge to keep you in happy land
Using and underpowered PC in a plastic case resembling C64 will not keep you in happy land. That's not to say they didn't spend at least a little money on the "run your old frustrating beyond belief games" UI. But you don't need a PC to be throwing fits once again like in your youth.... ;)
Yeah I remember on the first commodores that came out with the sprites on the side of the keys on it. Even though I did not own a commodore myself. Those machines were very popular back then.
it runs linux and Commodore os not windows and Commodore is not who brought it back it was a guy who bought all the rights and patents and stuff, and all the new ones are from scratch from a factory
lockergnome, if you really like Jumpman, I'd like to recommend another C64 game that is very similar. It's called "Ultimate Wizard" by Electronic Arts (1986). There is also "Wizard", Progressive Peripherals & Software (1984). Both are nearly identical. There are a few variations of those games too (Wizard Expert, Ultimate Wizard 2, etc). If you like Jumpman, you will probably like the Wizard games. 1 of them even had/has a "construction kit" for making your own boards. Check'em out. :-)
I've got jumpman on my DTV. The new C64s and VIC-20s are pretty neat because of the cool cases and the fun and nostalgia it brings. My bread box has a blue-ray rw, heh. Today's kids would be like, "Where's the screen?" I'd order one if money wasn't so tight right now, maybe i can still pick one up before the new Commodore stops producing them.
I get your point, but you're a douche! First of all the keyboard graphics you're so over emphatically ranting about aren't called sprites, they're ASCII characters. Why buy a 'New C64' when you pretty much already have one. I'm sure you're aware it's just an emulator in a breadbox. Spend your money on a REAL 64 and 1541, get a WICO and a Fast Load Cartridge and play Jumpman Junior til your hearts content. Not to mention you'll get your ASCII characters you seem to love so much.
Yeah I'd get one. They seem to have everything built in. It is one sleek machine with a bunch o usb and memory card slots. It looks like its gonna kick ass.
just checked my shipping for the commodore 64. and last night it was going through customs, so I should be getting it today. woohooooo!!! I'm glad I have no work today.
@Blizzardnz please do a review and an unboxing. i am really really interested in seeing this com64. i used the original when i was a kid to play jumpman junior and i want 1 fo my tv.
@gundambob646 Sure will do. I have it now and have been running it for about a week now and loving every moment of it. But will do a proper unboxing and review on it as soon as I get some time off work, which will be tuesday the 2 august.
I was born after the C64 stopped production. I need to buy the production lines for C64's and get them manufactured again, complete with floppy drives and DataSettes, also manufactured. C64C, to live again.
@jjovereats Personally, I can't wait to get my hands on one of the new C64s! They are now made by a new company that operated in West Chester, Pennsylvania 30 years ago. Now Commodore Business Machines is back under the banner Commodore USA with new headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. There is a new store opened just now in Pompano Beach. Check it out!
The graphics on the side is kinda nitpicking, being that those characters are alt sequeces, or on Mac option + some key..... I think they don't have the caracters there' because they have no relevance in today's compute rings
53280 was border; 53281 was background; 1024 was start of screen for chars 55296 was the same just for colors The screen was 40 chars/24 lines which means it ended a good deal before 2048 - where the basic program area started. I used to write MC-progs, never had a hex-editor, cause I didn't know what it was. So I used decimal numbers directly into data lines... FX 169 =LDA 1 141 = STA 33 208 96 Equals poke 53281,1 (white).
Personally, I'm really liking that old shape for practical reasons. I used to use a desktop machine and a laptop. The laptop just died. The C64 looks like something I could keep hooked up to my monitor when I want to use it upstairs, or unplug it and carry it downstairs to stream stuff on the HDTV. Or, if it's robust enough (this, I want to know), stuff it into a bag and carry it to a friend's house.
also the Commodore 64 also suffered lots of break downs. it wascheaply made and it was over priced for what it was worth. I send a email to this new Commodore and what I hate to say that they are stupid. they showed me no respect. I am buying something else that will give me respect. I paying and I need respect
i do not have respect for Commodore back then and not now hevy brak downs and bad service that aMIGA 500 .that last batch that tCommodore sold was bad frad drive on every aniga 5 then Commodre went out of business warning do not buy
NO! However I know some one is realy want a Amiga., and I am not buying a fucking Commodore 64! I got rid of it beciase of all the bull shit on video games that dose not work. heavy break downs and bad customer support
It's not a Commodore 64 though, just a standard PC in a novelty case. No SID chip, and your Mac Pro will run the emulators better than the atom pc in the case. Don't even get me started on their "Amiga" range which will be the same thing (especially as AmigaOS is still developed, but won't run on their machines).
hey if you like emulators buy a GGE909 PC Recoil Pad
i use it for my ps2 ps1 and gba emulators very good usb controller and it comes with software to program your buttons :D i will send this to you in a message if you didnt see this
I had just as much fun with my old C64 as my kids have with the latest and greatest Xbox games and unlike xbox my old C64 never ever broke down or had problems at all and in is still running beautifully this day.

Exept for the external powersuply a real C64 is almost indestructible. Purchase for a few $/€ on the bay and get a new transformator.
The cost-free alternative is the Vice-Emulator.

@Blizzardnz please do a review and an unboxing. i am really really interested in seeing this com64. i used the original when i was a kid to play jumpman junior and i want 1 fo my tv.
gundambob646 7 months ago
@gundambob646 Sure will do. I have it now and have been running it for about a week now and loving every moment of it. But will do a proper unboxing and review on it as soon as I get some time off work, which will be tuesday the 2 august.

I was born after the C64 stopped production. I need to buy the production lines for C64's and get them manufactured again, complete with floppy drives and DataSettes, also manufactured. C64C, to live again.
jjovereats 7 months ago
@jjovereats Personally, I can't wait to get my hands on one of the new C64s! They are now made by a new company that operated in West Chester, Pennsylvania 30 years ago. Now Commodore Business Machines is back under the banner Commodore USA with new headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. There is a new store opened just now in Pompano Beach. Check it out!

The graphics on the side is kinda nitpicking, being that those characters are alt sequeces, or on Mac option + some key..... I think they don't have the caracters there' because they have no relevance in today's compute rings

I think it is a tad egotistical to have your own picture on your laptop. Your are truly disturbing and need to lay off the caffeine.

Must say that one of my favorites was The Goonies because of the good co-op mode it had.
Spelarkivet 9 months ago
It's not a Commodore 64 though, just a standard PC in a novelty case. No SID chip, and your Mac Pro will run the emulators better than the atom pc in the case. Don't even get me started on their "Amiga" range which will be the same thing (especially as AmigaOS is still developed, but won't run on their machines).
techguruuk 9 months ago
hey if you like emulators buy a GGE909 PC Recoil Pad
i use it for my ps2 ps1 and gba emulators very good usb controller and it comes with software to program your buttons :D i will send this to you in a message if you didnt see this
