That said, I think you covered most of what I was going to say in the comments. Vampires, while interpreted in so many different ways, should never have been made to behave like emo children. Though I haven't read the book I highly suspect that there is at least one Mary Sue type afoot in the series.

The main character, Bella, is one of the hugest Mary-Sues you'll ever see. Same goes for Edward, but he is, of course, a Gary-Stu. I don't really think there are any more, as having more Sues would overshadow Bella's uber-Sue-I'm-a-special-snowfla­ke-ness. But really, one is enough, no?

While it is generally acceptable for a few changes to be made in each author's interpretation of vampires, I feel that Meyer has gone a little too far. The concept of what a vampire is has been pretty much defined already, one of their main characteristics being their death or extreme discomfort in the sunlight. Meyer's vampires are, IMHO, sparkly pixies, not vampires.

And I read them all partially to see if they were really as bad as everyone (well, not Twilight fans, but you get the idea) said they were, and partially because I've heard too many disgruntled fans say that you can't diss what you haven't read.
